This is a great opportunity for Razor and one that will be even more fun to watch Team Canada over the holidays. Sure....8 games without him along with Mesar on Slovakia....but the boys have proven us wrong more times than naught. And I can't help but think that MM will shore up the D.

I think this was supposed to be a response to my post rather than Yacky's.
Geo you just sound happier than yacky.:) He seemed to be sad about certain selections being missed. Anyhow every year there are surprises at who made the squad and disappointments who doesn't. Yacky did stimulate the conversation. Canadian hockey fans are all about gold. If we win gold it's great. If we lose they picked the wrong team. I have no idea of the strengths and weaknesses of Team Canada or any other squad in the tourney. Like everyone else I watch games with my fingers crossed.

I'm not going to get into the concerns over who should or should not have made it. That is a debate that rages every year.

All I'll say is that's impossible to look at Canada's rosters over the 40 years of this tournament and not conclude they have a WHL bias. We can also debate the reasons as to why, but it's pretty obvious just going by the straight numbers.

According to the 2016 census, Canadian population in the provinces our leagues play in:

Western Canada (Manitoba west) - 11.1 million
Eastern Canada (Ontario east) -
24.9 million

You’d think then, averaged out over the years, that two thirds of the team would be comprised of players from the O and the Q.

But if anything, without looking, I’d bet at least half are WHLers. Likely a little more.

So there is that.

We Ranger fans are celebrating Rehkopf making the Team Canada squad. Nelson is a skilled player but was cut for one reason or another. Not sure why this popped up on this thread? Wondered why yacky made his comment on here. Soo fans comments are welcome.:)

I was looking for Nelson on the roster, really surprised he didn't make team Canada.
A really good defenseman.
I think Nelson may be the dman that the Rangers try to acquire.

The number of OHL players cut from U20 isn't really surprising this year. When you look at the CHL rankings the OHL is really being looked down upon this season.

I’d rather a big stay at home D to play beside Motew. Then a depth vet on the third pairing.

And the two F’s you suggest.

Four additions we can afford.

Don’t see how we have enough to acquire Nelson. Plus we need an import F and atleast 1 more depth forward. Plus I’d like to see a depth D added. Nelson would costs us everything we have pretty much.

I'm missing the reason why we need 2 acquire depth forwards after the decision to keep Martin. Especially two. I think we have enough players that can put together an effective 4th line.

I'd like a shutdown dman too. I think Romano would be almost enough to get Nelson. We may have to throw in a couple of conditional picks that we can recover when we trade we trade him next season should he return as an OA.

I'm still in the get the best player we can afford camp.

We have 7 top 9F and then a whole bunch of good 4th liners.

Carson
Mesar
Swick
Martin
Sop
Misa
Lam

The rest of the forwards imo (probably lots of here agree) shouldn’t be playing 3rd line on a contending team.

Bottineau - Mercer - Pug

This 4th line currently I’m ok with. Leaving…..

Ellinas, Romano, Stark and Morey. They aren’t 3rd line players on a contending.

Hence why a lot of people still think we need an import F and a 3rd line center to fill the top 3 lines.
