Awesome experience for Rehkopf. When was the last time a Ranger was on team Canada? It's been a while. Excited for the early start times.

Ryan Murphy. 2013.

I believe that’s the longest stretch without Ranger representation on Team Canada since day one.
That's quite the stat. It appears we are primed to have some more in the near future if the 07s continue on this great growth trajectory. Reid specifically is someone I could see making the team in a few years.

That is some talent that got cut yesterday. I would hate to be the selection committee. They are leaving one spot open for a possible NHL'er. Any guesses as to who might be our best hope?

dont want to sound upset but i think a lot of politics in some picks that were ignored

yacky you do seem to be upset about something. Can you elaborate at who you think got ignored by the powers that make the choices regarding the Team Canada roster? Just seems like a strange comment with no information attached.

Bedard - no chance
Fantilli - highly unlikely
Wright - decent possibility
Benson - has been playing really good of late
Poitras - play has declined so a decent possibility
Korchinski - highly unlikely

Doesn't explain the "politics" yacky says is involved in picks. Just wonder who he thinks should be there in place of a player that made the team.:)

Maybe he’s referring to the annual perceived WHL bias?

6 of 8 cuts being OHLers won’t help diffuse that debate.

Even I remember the immortal Don Cherry ranting about the selections for Team Canada. He thought there should be a more balanced roster across all Canadian regions. Not sure if that would cut it if you are selecting the best players available that suit the system the coaches want to ice. Looking at the roster I certainly have no idea of the skill level of most of the players from other leagues or what qualities the coaches are looking for in players. We really don't see enough of the teams in the OHL to get a good idea of the skill level of some players. Some posters think this squad doesn't look that strong. Guess we will find out. Just glad Rehkopf made the team. He deserves a shot with his stats.

Forming a "team" that's designed to win is a whole lot different than picking an Allstars team based on stats. Stevie Y had a HoF career stat wise before becomeing a perennial winner by doing what it took to win.
Most teams has fans who thinks one of their players was robbed from being selected. At the end of the day the selection committee/GM/coaches puts their reputation and career on the line. Maybe I'm not up on all the player, as fans who really is? If we had a player(s) who Yacky is talking we cannot debate it.

Now having equal representation from all regions is a slippery slope down to the B pool.

That didn't age well eh Edwards?...
The consensus was he had a bad first game (which Edwards referenced) but had a really good 2nd game with Celebrini and Dumais. Scott Wheeler thinks this will be a line moving forward in the tourny.

From Scott Wheeler
NOTE Paywall:
F Carson Rehkopf (Seattle Kraken): Rehkopf is so, so dangerous as a shooter straight-up with goalies. That was evident in the practice sessions. He has this little feint that he does pre-release before he lets it go. It looks like as he settles into that feint, he’s comfortable getting rid of it at any time, too. He was forcing it a little in the opener and took a penalty reaching in, which I think meant that he had to play well on Wednesday to secure a spot, but he responded and showcased his skill in Game 2. He nearly set up Celebrini on the backdoor in the first period and then had a good shift on the cycle his next time over the boards. He showed creativity and was above pucks defensively, in front of the net on screens. He was winning pucks. There were still a couple of moments where he waited too long with the puck, but he looked way more like himself and Canada is going to need his talent to show up at some point. I could see him being the 13th forward if Canada gets an NHLer — and working his way into a top-six scoring role at some point.
