Looks like Florian is following his brothers footsteps, straight to Hamilton this time though. Another undrafted X signs.
Great for him, not sure if there is an opening here if the import defenceman Tomas Hamara and 2nd round pick Longacre signs. I think both are a good bet to sign. Let alone if George Fegaras does sign. Being undrafted he needs to go where he can get the most icetime.
Oops...just read he's a forward and not a dman. My point still stands that Hamilton may be better for him in regards to icetime.

The offer is as many minutes possible. Mesar will get first line, first PP immediately. He's a high impact first rounder. I don't really think there is any hesitation from MacKenzie to let this be known to Hughes.
Yeah I’m not trying to say Kitchener isn’t a good option, it’s by the looks of it the best option for him. It’s a team just looking at this thread, lots of young upcoming talent that he would be surrounded by and would get lots of ice time. If I remember Adam Liska had a pretty good experience in Kitchener. Top line ice time in Kitchener and than top 6/9 ice time at the WJC for Slovakia (December for sure, and maybe august) would be a really good first year.

Of course Part of me as a Poprad fan wants him to stay, but also of course want to see what’s best for his development as a Slovak hockey fan first and foremost :)

Matej Deraj, Slovak ice hockey journalist mostly covering Slovak prospects

Translation:
Filip Mešár will spend the next season in the AHL or OHL, according to the GM, the Canadiens mainly want him to continue to develop offensively. He gets a chance to show them his skills. AHL is therefore not excluded, for me personally he would probably benefit more from a junior.

He will also not be playing at the WJC in august, as he said MTL wants him preparing for season. Not really that shocking.

Just read that two Swedish teams are now also choices for him to play. But I would think that Montreal will want him to start playing here where he can adapt to the smaller ice surface. We'll see.

Another point is MTL could control where he plays in Laval, while not in Kitchener. I don’t think they want to send him to Kitchener to play second line C minutes behind Pinelli. If they want him to play C that is, which he spend about 1/3 of the season playing in Poprad.

I am assuming he played RW for the other 2/3 of the season? Basically though it will boil down to the position that Montreal wants him developed at. If he were to come to Kitchener, I'm quite sure they would accommodate Montreal's wishes.

My biggest concern, as a Ranger fan, is the possibility of him taking the route to Sweden. I've seen a video clip of this guy, and while it's only one, he does show some outstanding talent.

He played LW and RW for the other 2/3, Poprad had a pretty hectic season. He’s probably a winger though at the next level. I think Kitchener is still a better option than sweden. Let him adapt to NA

The Habs won’t loan Mesar to play in the SHL, doesn’t make sense for a signed top prospect if their goal is to have him play in the NHL within 2-3 years and have development direction, medical assessment access, etc. Saying ’two SHL teams’ even makes the suggestion suspect IMO.

Most likely: AHL if he’s at the level and fits in the roster now, OHL if he’s ‘maybe next year’, ECHL (TR) split down the road if he’s not regular roster in Laval by age 20, SHL (etc) if NHL ELC is not extended.

It wouldn’t be the end of the world for Mesar or the Habs if he were to play one or two years in Kitchener before entering his entry level contract.

No question he’d play top line minutes in Kitchener as well as top PP duty, and top PK duty if that’s his game. Of course, if he’s good enough to play with the big team this year or next, then that’s fine. Of course, being a late first round pick means the likelihood he’ll play at the NHL level before his junior eligibility is over is slim. Perhaps he could play at the AHL level but I’m doubting he’d get anywhere near the minutes he’d get in Kitchener.

The Habs have a ton of players/prospects under the age of 24 and it may be wise to spread out the start of players’ entry level deals in an effort to keep from having multiple players coming up for renewal one after the other or in the same off seasons.

If Mesar turns pro now, his entry level deal ends after the 24-25 season. Letting him play in Kitchener for a couple years pushes the end of his entry level deal down the road.

No Hage yet, but iirc Pinelli took quite a while to sign. Either way, I still like the gamble. You either get a top tier player, or you have two 1st round picks next year, including a top 10 pick...arguably a draft that will be less negatively impacted by COVID league shut downs.
If we don't come out a major contender next season, you have some very good pieces to trade for futures that would line up with the development window of those two potential 1st rounders next season.

You only get the extra first round pick if you find a trading partner I believe. If he doesn't sign and you keep him you get nothing.

Of course I've been wrong before.

I believe you just have to declare the player "defected/defective".
Otherwise, I don't think it would be hard to find a team would would be willing to trade a 15th for Hage + a mid-to-late round pick or two from us. That way a team gets a couple free picks for taking his rights, which would trigger us receiving a compensatory 1st.

This interview was from July 17th.
Their is still the possibility of Hamara playing for Kitchener.

FPH Exclusive – Q & A with Ottawa Senators Prospect Tomas Hamara

FPH: “You signed a two-year contract to play for Tappara starting next season. Is your plan still to play in Finland?”

Hamara: “We don’t know yet actually. I have options to go to Kitchener (OHL) or stay in Finland. We’ll see what we decide.”

I found this article. There's a window before the season starts. It's possible the rule changed.

OHL draft holdouts have power, but teams can pay a long game

in order to get the extra 1st the following year, you declare the player defective and either release or trade the player. if you hold onto the players rights, no pick is given.

Does anyone know why Connor Bedard isn't on the list of players for Canada's National junior team?
