Regarding Rehkopf, perhaps it's a case of line-juggling to see what (finally ?) clicks and provides offensive balance for a team that should be doing much better than it is. Unfortunately this seems to be an ongoing experiment. In all fairness, and in part, Martin's injury does mess things up a bit.

I have to disagree about Rehkopf playing the wing. He needs to be the 2nd line centre where his skating ability is on full display, not skating up and down a wing.

TheBlueMonster - As much as I would like a new coach immediately, I don't see it happening. Have the Team Canada WJC invitees been announced? I'm not sure Pinelli will even be on the list.

MM's decision to buy or sell was arguably already difficult enough prior to this announcement. With the status on both Martin and Parsons now known, things are now even more precarious.

How do you gauge this team with Martin not returning until well after the trade deadline?

How well will a healed Martin respond once he returns?

Does the staff have enough confidence in Vandenberg as the back-up the rest of the way?

...and finally, does this mean that if they are a buyer, that they will need to spend even more to plug even more hole(s) ?

Not the news I was hoping to hear on these two.

One scouting report on Rehkopf said his forte is speed and offence at centre. Said he should start taking over games at some point in the season. We are not seeing this. Martin is the only player on the squad that seemed to be stepping up his game and he was doing it on his own. When I looked at Dennis resume not once did it say "coach". Assistant coaches are a dime a dozen. When I use to go to practice if the assistants were running practice because the coach was away it looked like a dog's breakfast. Take that for what it's worth.

I agree with you about where Rehkopf's skill should be maximized, but he will have to get a whole lot more committed defensively in order to be trusted at C. He mails it in more than anyone on the team on his side of center.

As for Pinelli, I think there is almost no chance he makes Team Canada. He should have been a near lock by this year but I haven't seen a single projection with him on the team. Almost none even have him getting invited. Let's just say the turnovers and reckless puck management have not gone unnoticed at those levels.

It’s been along time since a Kitchener Ranger was a member of Team Canada. (Ryan Murphy).

Dare I say the longest time without a player on that team since the 80’s?

Yep. And recall that Murphy was loudly criticized for only being there because of Spott and costing the team badly. So the last legit key contributor had to be Richards. Too long.

Yes, bang on. 6 years in the 90s between Rice and Devereaux but this streak is longer and shows no sign of ending soon.

IIRC Spott cut Cody Ceci and Ryan Sproul who were also right handed dmen early to pave the way for Murphy to make the team. Sproul was the CHL Defenceman of the Year that season.

The quotes by Mike in this, annoyed me. I think he shouldn't be too comfy in the GM seat anymore.

Says a bunch of words. Talks about instincts which this team doesn't have. 20 games is a big enough sample size.

“I think we’re playing a little timid. I think that was the message to the group this week, that we’re going to start playing fearless and we’re not going to be scared to make mistakes and we’re just going to leave it all out there.

A little timid? Fearless? Make mistakes? Is he watching the same game? Does he think we the fans are stupid enough not to see it?

Same old. Same old. On East Ave.

We all love to think the Kitchener Rangers are the Gold Standard. They aren't anymore. The blue print says otherwise.

Wow. If they’re afraid to make mistakes, it sure doesn’t show. They seem completely comfortable making the same ones over and over.

Maybe Chris Dennis went to high school with Bob.
Chris Dennis is 42 and Bob Mackenzie is 66.

TheBlueMonster - Rangers haven't been the gold standard since DeBoer left. And they weren't before he arrived.

Bienkowski brought in DeBoer because they admittedly weren't getting anywhere in the playoffs and there were lots of empty seats. They haven't gotten anywhere in the playoffs for a long time but only the past few seasons have the seats become a little empty.

Spott the coach scuttled Spott the GM’s plans at that WJC.

That season was the 50th anniversary in Kitchener. Spott announced that it was Memorial Cup or bust that year.

Spott the GM had a deal in place during the WJC where Ryan Strome and Brett Ritchie were coming to Kitchener at the deadline. The deal couldn’t be announced until after the Gold medal game (Mason rule).

But Strome and Ritchie played on that Spott coached WJC and by the time they got deep into the WJC, these guys had enough of Spott the coach. They vetoed the deal and did so solely on Spott’s job coaching Team Canada. The Ryan Murphy favouritism being one issue. (This info from a family member of one of those players). Spott the GM quickly had to go in another direction and wound up doing the Leivo / Corrado deal with Sudbury.

The problem was that we came away from the deadline without a #1 center (Strome would have been perfect). That was our downfall in the post season. Spott said as much after we were eliminated.
