If the Rangers continue to falter right up to the deadline will that lesson the value of tradable assets? GMs looking at bolstering their line ups for a run will be picky and want the right fit. The player I believe that seemed to have stepped up his game the most from last year is injured Mitchell Marten. I would think GMs have inquired about him already. There are no leaders on the Rangers. Some of the other vets look great one game and disappear the next. Dumb question: If the Habs feel that Mesar is not improving or falling behind can they remove him after the World Juniors and place him in the AHL?
No once assigned to a junior team they cannot be returned to any pro league. They can be "loaned" to play at the WJT and then returned to the pros but once assigned to a junior team they are there until that teams season is done . They can also be called up to the NHL for any emergency but that is usually a goalie and usually only for 1 game.

I think the 1st domino to fall will be the coach but as I kind of alluded too, that's something that needs to fall asap. With in 48 hours.

But yeah, that's fair. I think that's likely the approach the team takes.

If they come out today and crap the bed like they did yesterday, then Dennis is in the crosshairs. But if they win or even lose a tight game with massive effort, he could get to next weekend to see if things turn around.

Next weekend, London and Erie are two winnable games. For a team that aims to contend, there shouldn’t be an issue coming out with two wins.

Personally, I am of the opinion MM screwed the pooch this year at the draft. Of 13 picks one has seen ice. Rangers have one 3rd rounder in Bottineau that gets the odd spot duty. Then MM hired Chris Dennis. He seems to be the sacrificial goat at the moment. Deservedly so. Kitchener has one of the best venues and fan bases in the league. They should be in the mix almost every year or at the very least drafting some exciting players that can contribute to give fans some hope going forward. Pinelli is the captain. In an interview he said," Can't really explain it". "Sometimes we show up to play sometimes we don't". There it is in a nutshell. Rangers mustered one shot in the 3rd against North Bay. Two in the 1st in Guelph. Today they will come out flying again and keep the roller coaster going.

IMHO...its just the basic Kitchener Ranger Country Club culture which was put on the back shelf during the PD era. This will keep being the same until fans stop showing up, then the upper management will become more hands off.

Rangers had one shot in the 3rd in North Bay last Sunday. They played an ok first 25 minutes Friday but after scoring the 3rd goal around the 5 minute mark of the 2nd period, only had 2 more shots in the 2nd and 1 shot in the 3rd. Then yesterday they had 3 shots in the first period. Usually I don't get too concerned about the shot clock, but that's extraordinarily inept offence over an extended period of time.

I agree with Ward about the country club atmosphere. It's been a problem for years unless there's a Type A personality at the helm such as DeBoer.

If he was sick Friday, and we know he wasn't ready yesterday, he probably wasn't 100% for tonight, let alone in a back-to-back scenario, when your back up gave you an excellent effort. Feels like Dennis trying to save his job. Time after time this team isn't ready from the hop, they're significantly worse on the ice than on paper. Even our usually pretty cheery play-by-play guys on TV are outlining how you have to be ready to play and this team just isn't.

The team last year after the trade deadline was a lower middle of the pack team that had flashes of brilliance, and time after time attempted to compete with more skilled and veteran teams, which led to some success in the playoffs. This years team which from the outset should be last years team with older, and wiser players, along with some new fancy pieces should be competing, but half the time I watch them they look worse then the team did last year. I just don't get how this can be possible unless the 3 over-agers we had last year were the glue holding this thing together (could be, but I find that hard to fully believe).

Biggest difference, especially the last while is the lack of discipline this season. I don't think Dennis has the players attention.

Me thinks this may be the end for Chris Dennis, and if not after tonight then extremely soon.
Agree there on Dennis but there could be others like the carry over from the last few yrs the asst coaches? Also no one has mentioned it yet but is McKenzie job safe?
Heres another question thats never been raised...is the main priority of a community owned team actually winning??

Did someone here mention that CD had said after the loss to the Storm that maybe he shouldn't have put him in net because he wasn't 100% ? Well if I'm not mistaken, in his own words during the pre-game interview on 570, CD had said that Costantini would be starting in this game too despite stating that he was still not quite 100%. I just shook my head hearing this.....and sure enough, the result as expected.

If Dennis goes MM should be right behind him just for his screw ups this season. He hasn't said a word about the present situation. Where is he? There are a lot of people (Directors) riding on the coattails of the Rangers Org. hanging around getting free season tickets and meals and not really doing a hell of a lot for their efforts. Been like that for years.

I know this organization has a history of being owned by the season ticket holder (As I am one), but sometimes I think it would be great for the Rangers going forward to have a true owner, that not only wants to win every season (within reason of course), but wants to bring this franchise back into the spotlight as one of the best in the country. No trophies in 14 years can't happen to a team with this much history and this large of a fanbase behind them. I know this may be a bit of an overreaction but I'm just frustrated at this point and have been for the better part of the last decade.

During the timeout in the first period players jumped off the bench and huddled around the coach. I did see mesar sat thier cleaning his visor paying no attention, beside him was pinelli. Pinelli sat on the bench and was the furthest player from the coach. He sat their and made no eye contact with the coach for the entire timeout.

That to me shows players tuning out the coach and/or think they're bigger then the team.

We really miss Martin up front. He's really the only forward that offers a different dynamic to the group. Plays a heavier game. Swick and Misaljevic are two players who don't do much for me but yet get a lot of opportunities. At least Zidlicky plays with pace, battles, has skill. I do feel Z needs to make smarter plays and not always go 1000 miles an hour but there is a lot of talent and ability there compared to other two left wingers I mentioned. Mercer, morey, pugliese have shown no progress this year. Mercer floats and then if he gets the puck it’s a dump and change

This teams needs a shake up… asap. Coach firing, trade of a significant piece

I don’t know what’s going on with Pinelli. But for some reason, his wires have crossed this weekend. Mouth guard misconducts in consecutive games Friday and Saturday and then the match for cross checking tonight. All out of character if you ask me. The 10 on Friday night is one thing, but to get another on Saturday then the match tonight has me wondering if he’s rebelling against the coach.

The Rangers, expected to be a top contender this year, are one point out of the basement after tonight. Many are pointing fingers behind the bench. Scrambling of lines, etc. Hell, even starting an ill Costantini in consecutive games Sat and Sun admitting on pre and post game shows that he wasn’t 100% healthy with Vandenberg available who stole the win on Friday night. It has to be frustrating as a player when you see a less than able goalie allow 3-0 and 4-0 first period leads on shots that by all accounts, we’re easy saves. The Rangers are struggling and the players are assuredly trying to right the apple cart but the coach seemed to handcuff them the last couple games.

I don’t see Pinelli going anywhere anytime soon. But what you might see is a coaching change sooner than later. Nothing seems to be clicking with this team right now and this weekend might have been the straw that broke the camels back.

If anything, I’d expect a coaching change before any drastic trades be they in area of buying or selling.

You’re right about Mercer. He was one of the reasons that I was so high on the 05 group. I expected so much more this year. Sure he was hurt early on so there’s that, but still he’s leaving me wanting with his play right now.

Our OA F’s we’re hurting us early on. I had each penciled in for over a point a game this year. Around 80pts. But lately I’m liking Serpa’s drive. He may not be an elite OA, but he at least looks like he could maybe be top six material on a contender. At worst a very strong third liner.

Valade on the other hand, not so much. For me, he’s spinning his wheels. What he’s giving us right now is the same that most of the bottom six gives us. And therefore, I’d just as soon have a younger guy play those minutes. Today, if I’m running the show and going all in, I 100% upgrade that OA spot. On a contender, he cannot be one of our OA’s. And I’m not waiting around to see if he has a better second half like he did last year. Cannot afford that luxury.

Actually, umm, no. Winning is not the first priority. The first priority is ending the season in the black. Second, that the fans are “entertained”. Entertaining the fans leads to finishing in the black.

This was pretty much stated by Steve Bienkowski after the end of the 50th anniversary season. Steve Spott trumpeted that it was The Memorial Cup or bust that year. He went on to drop the ball at the trade deadline but that story is for another day.

But after we were eliminated in the 2nd round, Bienkowski was asked in an interview about fan expectation and eventual fan disappointment as that year was supposed to be a championship run. His answer pretty much was that he didn’t understand what the big deal was. He said far as he was concerned, the fans were entertained.

There it is.

I'm almost willing to bet he will be back. I can't see him in the AHL.
I don’t know. I think he’ll be too good for this league next year despite his actions the last few games. Especially once a pro coaching staff gets a hold of him.

13-9-22 in 18 GP is maybe 8-10 points lest than expected this year. But 13 goals in 18 games is a pretty good pace for a player who many would say is underachieving so far this year.

He's definitely gone after this year. It really doesn't matter about whether they're ready or not. Its that the NHL team is paying him and using a contract spot on him so he'll be in the AHL or ECHL working with their pro coaches almost guaranteed

EDIT: I said this before looking at his stats then when to check how bad he's doing. He has 13 goals in 18 games.... That means he's on pace for 49 goals lol. There's a close to 0.0% chance he's back next year

Beating a dead horse here. First, I cannot find any info on where Dennis actually played hockey. Lots of video coaching and assistant coaching on his resume. Sounds like Fixter. Does anyone know where he laced on skates and played at a higher level? Also, when you look at MM hockey history it doesn't really amount to much. Never played a lot of games in pro. On the Pinelli issue he looks totally frustrated at this point in the season. Has to be disappointed by the way the team is being coached and managed. I was totally surprised when he fell to the Rangers in the draft. He must have wanted to come here. All we hear about the Rangers is they have a pro style dressing room and facilities. This is great to attract players. Along with this a team needs GM to bring in the right mix and a coach that gets the best out of the players on the ice. Not happening at all lately.

I admit that both Serpa, and more recently, Pinelli have taken some foolish penalties in the last few weeks that could make one's blood pressure rise. The two mouthguard infractions were also frustrating (some bad habits die hard). Not sure if he was picked as the goat, or if he is in fact one of the worst in the league. Either way, the point was made clear in my mind.

Looking past all of this, I still feel that at least these two play with emotion. So I'm guessing that for these types from time to time there is that risk of some bad outcomes that could happen from the part of the brain that requires quick decisions. Xhekaj was maybe another example of this.

I'm likely in the minority here, and not necessarily trying to change anyone's view on these player types, but after I'm done fuming and watching the opposition take advantage of the "dumb penalties", overall I still find these two valuable to the team. Probably a different story for a player that had less skill and / or toughness. Gotta rein it in a bit though.

Back to back games with a mouth guard violation and then a stupid major. Not much discipline from the captain.
Mouth guard habit....not easy to break but must be. Crosscheck to the head.....from Pinelli??? Frustration with what's going on behind the curtain?? Just not like Pinelli.
