Two points in the bank despite the refs giving Ottawa 10 power plays. Rangers did a heck of a job killing off all the penalties. I thought Liberati played well in his first game.

With tonight's Rangers win and Spitfires loss, the Spitfires stretched their commanding Western Conference lead over the Rangers for 2nd place overall to minus 9 points with the Rangers having 2 games in hand. ;)
If the Rangers win those 2 games the lead will be even greater at -13. ......sorry couldn't resist poking fun at the idiotic standings protocol!

Even though the officials had some creative calls tonight, it made for a very entertaining game watching the Rangers kill off the 10 penalties.

I was going to yell at the refs until I saw it was Christmas Carroll.:amazed:

Some people like being the centre of attention, some people can't be unbias, and some people hold grudges for a long time. You're not a bad person by any means if you do these things, but you should not be an official of any sport at any level if that's the type of person you are. Simple as that.

Just wondering if the bench minor at the time of the Robinsons 10 minute misconduct was for the song "Mr Grinch" being played. I know there is some sort of league rule about "appropriate" music being played and not insulting to the officials. That's why yrs ago the song Three Blind Mice was banned from being played in OHL arenas.

That was definitely not why the penalty was called. Van Ryn was laying into the ref after the empty net goal, not sure what about. Assuming over Robinson getting the 10

Pretty sure Robinson said something regarding the missed call on Ottawa. Miller was laying face down and the jack a** refs looked the other way. The refs just don't pick a player at random. Ottawa players have a pention for whining and the refs fall for it. Konecny looked like someone took his favourite toy from his sand box when he got bumped a couple of times.

First I initially pooh-poohed the idea of the Rangers picking up a decent backup goalie should Luke Opilka get invited and make the USA world junior team. But having looked at the standings and realizing there's a huge difference between finishing third and fourth in our conference I believe the Rangers need to do everything they can to avoid finishing fourth to avoid having to play the fifth Place seat. That would either be Sarnia or Windsor and thus a tougher series. Should they finish third theyd have an easier time with the sixth seed. That will go along way as the playoffs wear on. Therefore, if Oppika should be invited and make that team perhaps we do pick up a backup goalie on the cheap. i'd much rather play Flint or Owen Sound in the first round rather than Sarnia or Windsor. At least as it stands now.

Perhaps even more importantly, finishing 3rd would "potentially" mean an easier 2nd round, most likely playing the 2nd seed and West Division winner as opposed to the 1st seed (see Guelph vs London, SSM vs Erie matchups 2 years ago).

3rd may actually be the sweetspot place to finish in the West.

Agreed. That's why these next two games against London during the world Junior break are so important. Two 4 point games could go a long way in deciding third and fourth place in the west.

It could also mean 1st place as its likely Erie loses a few games over the junior break.

It might be 3rd is better than 1st or 4th. Having said that come play off time everyone is dangerous.

USA Hockey might be sending a message to any players that are thinking of jumping to the CHL?
They might also be sending a message to the players that winning isn't their first priority!
Hopefully Bracco will be selected next season.

DeBrincat ditched a commitment to UMass-Amherst (who USA is actually scrimmaging on Friday) for Erie. imo DeBrincat is just better than Bracco right now.

Kitchener should go undefeated during the world juniors.
If Opie makes the team then the Rangers will be running out a 16 year old with one OHL game on his resume. Mind you, he was outstanding but I doubt that it's to be expected for the 7 or 8 games WJHC span.

Wonder if Bronsons concussion will keep him out during this time that Hiebert might try to swing a trade 3 way trade for Nichols then move him again to the third team before the deadline? (very unlikely but don't know what the options would be for goalie tandem)

He might only face 10 shots a game!

I definitely don't think it was because they think DeBrincat is better. DeBrincat never played for UMass. Bracco played 5 games with Boston College this year then decided to jump over. They probably feel disrespected like he felt they weren't good enough for him

I believe Bracco last year as a 17 year old was the last cut and this year doesn't warrant an invite??

Jump all over me if you want, but I honestly don't think there's any conspiracy here. I just think Bracco is very borderline for that tournament right now. The Americans have a lot of talent and options and Bracco has some severe on-ice knocks. He shies away from board battles and is fairly easily separated from the puck. He doesn't have break-away speed and it's a skater's tournament. And his shot requires him to be in tight - and this is against competition where it'll be very hard for him to get space there.

It's no disrespect to Bracco. He's an elite passer who could help their powerplay. But essentially the decision comes down to the fact he has to play top-6 and they probably feel they have two top-6 RW's who can play a better all-around game more suited to that tournament.

I, for one, am not overly surprised. He has things to work on.

In the immortal words of Stan Butler the kid can be bitter or can get better! Josh Ho Sang seems to have moved on from a number of HC snubs and an idiotic gaffe at NYI training camp, let's see if young Mr. Bracco can do the same....
