Kaprizov is a way better player than Gaborik, its not even remotely close IMO.
Completely disagree. Prime Gaborik would have as good a production, if not better, if he were teleported in the current era. One of the most talented players I have ever seen live in my life. Kaprizov is elite too, dont get me wrong. But to say that it's not close is just hyperbole. It's VERY close either way.

Talent alone is not the key differentiator between the two. Gaborik used to drop 3 pucks at the center Faceoff circle and snipe dead center of the crossbar 3/3, his skill was undeniable. But Kaprizov has so much more meat to his game and ways to generate opportunities, his all ice impact is far greater than Gaborik’s ever was, while being nearly as good through the neutral zone as Gaborik’s best strength.

Agree with this.

I think I could go either way between the two offensively, but Kaprizov is easily the more well-rounded player. Gaborik's speed and shot were simply electric and he played in a trap system with literally no talent for first half of his career but cherry picked, didn't play in his zone, and couldn't beat you every way that Kaprizov can.

Even with his recovery from injury problems during the whole first half of the regular and missed games he's almost scored 100 points.

I'd say he's the best LW in the game (yeah, better than Panarin) and 2nd best winger after Kuch overall.

I wish I could find video of it. I was too busy reading last night to truly watch the game. If anyone finds video, don't be a video hoarding dragon, please post it.

I hope the Wild can give Kaprizov enough around him to make a deep run and eventually win a Cup. Wild fans and the state of Minnesota deserve better when it comes to pro hockey.
Upcoming season looks to be more of a development year, though there is definite dark horse potential if they can make it to the trade deadline in playoff position. Final year of major dead cap, so they can finally start looking at adding players with term when they become available during the season. Guerin has gathered a pretty significant amount of 25 and 26 draft capital and a full prospect cupboard to play with.

When the top guys are healthy, it’s a squad that can compete with anyone, the guys are all really hard workers and a good blend of two way players with skill to go with it. The depth has taken a hit recently though and rookies are going to get prominent roles this season so I expect consistency challenges.

Time is ticking though, Brodin seems to keep getting better with age, but that can’t last forever and the D corps that has been solid for over a decade has slowly been weakening, the Faber addition was a huge boon, but sooner than later we need another top 4 D.

Goalie is pretty much all in on Wallstedt for the future, I think most feel ok with that, but it’s a gamble, many fans here still remember when we went all in on Harding only for his MS diagnosis to derail the position for years.

I will say, this is a much more entertaining team to watch than most previous iterations. Kaprizov and Boldy are captivating in their creativity, at least the fans are treated to that.

The Wild need another defenseman from the pool to emerge. Lambos and O'Rourke haven't progressed enough so far, Hunt is fine but nothing special. Chisholm looked decent when he got games. I thought Peart took a step back at St Cloud State last year so we'll see how he does in his first full year in pro.

Peart is the one that I am high on, really like his game, but still think he needs time to add weight and strength. I think the lack of offense with St Cloud is deceptive of his true potential in an NHL system.

Definitely missing size and elite skill on the backend though, have a whole bunch of guys that project as middle pair puck movers if they hit, but nobody that projects that wow factor.

The doghouse
With his only 4th season as a Wild player he holds the following franchise records:

Goals per game
Assists per game
Points per game
Goals created per game
Most goals in a season
Most assists in a season
Most points in a season
Most PP goals in a season

These aren’t cumulative records though—his longevity on the team doesn’t matter. These are per game and season records.

In fact, the per game stat is more likely to decrease over time…

The only name that comes to mind with the wild is Marian gaborik, and some of those years were not friendly to individual stats under lemaire.

Paris and suter were big signings but they were well into their career by the time they joined the club.

So I can totally see kaprizov holding a bunch of team records.

Per game means nothing unless he stays there past his prime especially for a Russian who spent his pre-prime in the KHL instead of the NHL and basically hasn't played a game in the NHL outside of his peak yet let alone prime

The rest is irrelevant because the Wild's entire existence happened during the dead puck era, now we are in one of the highest scoring eras and Kaprizov is their best player. He's pretty great but of course today's best player would have these specific records for this specific team..

It's a shame that Fletcher gave away so many picks/prospects and missed on several, so that when Kaprizov came over, they weren't stocked and ready to go to be a legit contender, plus the buyout cap penalties hurting the Wild after 2021.

I can only imagine how much more winning Kaprizov would be part of if the Lightning, Panthers, Oilers, Avalanche, Hurricanes, or even Rangers or Penguins had drafted him.
