Boy his value has fallen far, from not long ago talk of him filling a 1C or 2C role, to now waiver wire talk or recovery of any value via trade to recover some of the cost to acquire him.

Like at the time of the trade to the Habs, a lot of concern if this guy can stay healthy. I wouldn't want to pay much for him (as far as trade assets go), too much of a risk. Someone might trade another high risk player or lower value prospect for him.

Montreal doesn't need to clear additional cap space. They will have plenty of it this summer.

Try again next season , I've never seen him look so bad , everybody is praying its just coming back from injury that's making him so timid. Crazy how good he looked for a stretch , he hasen't even gotten close to that play since coming back

I just think prioritizing someone to help Suzuki down the middle is critical.

I was thinking Dach would eventually turn into a 3C or top 6 winger (3rd best player on the line) kind of player. Wow did I ever overrate him.

He only makes 3.4 million a year so it is not like his contract is a boat anchor.

He’s a perimeter player with low hockey IQ and not willing to engage physically enough to attack the net. Doesn’t make his teammates better and is poor defensively and on the dot

He's battling for the title of worst player in the nhl.

This player wouldn't do much in beer leagues let alone at the nhl.

He'll be playing in Europe within 2 years. His nhl days are over. Wouldn't be surprised if he's retired by 30.

Suzuki has never missed a game in his NHL career and his previous three seasons were 61, 66 and then 77 points last season. He has 24 points in 24 games this year. While he is not a super star he has grown into just about a point per game player who has a solid defensive side.

Caufield has 16 goals through 24 games. I’m sure his pace will slow off a bit but I can’t see how he will not be a 30-35 goal scorer per year. He may max out at more but I’m being realistic.

Slafkovsky plays his best hockey with those two players. They started off the season together and then Slafkovsky has been on lower lines. Not sure why but his future is with these two and he had 50 points last year as a 19 year old. I can’t see why he won’t be a 60 plus point player in the future.

I was listening to a podcast and they talked about this line. Last year from the half way point on they were the sixth most productive line in the NHL. Short sample size but all three players have time on their side.



Now on to the second line;

Dach is still only 23 but has missed two full seasons due to injury. Not looking for excuses but that is a pretty big one. My hopes is that he manages to turn it around the second half of the season. Getting Laine back should help him as he is a playmaker more than a goal scorer.

Laine will help when he returns. I know he will not come back as the Laine of his first few years but I am hoping to have a 25-30 goal scorer. He should make the power play instantly better. Even if he doesn’t score a lot he will get the respect from other teams and players will cover him more and leave other players a little more open.

Demidov looks to be the real thing. He is getting very limited ice time in the KHL and is producing. He will make the jump over for next year and he will play a top six role in the near future.



Add in the fact that Montreal looks to be getting a top draft pick this year too. Possibility throw in a Misa, Martone or Hagens prospect and it will bump someone down.

I agree with mostly everything you’re saying. I just struggle to see how they are better than anyone else in their own division.

We should have reservations on Laine. We like to give Dach the injury excuse, but it’s very possible Laine has a hard time adjusting as well. The NHL is much faster than when he last played a full season.

Where we disagree is on the C.
Dach will be lucky if he becomes a 3rd line player.
It’s asking a lot for demidov to carry a 2nd line.

Just to put it in perspective, we won’t be better than a garbage Senators or Buffalo and they have much better players in the same positions.
Keep in mind, our defence will be even worse next year

I'd still like to see Dach on the Jets, I think they could turn him around, especially if he got a centre like Yager to insulate him, simplify his game. That would be a good investment of our late 1st I think.

Low confidence, high self expectations, and hesitation to play aggressively due to injury. Add that to rust + getting back up to speed, this year was never supposed to be a good season for him.

As long as he can end the season looking good, there's no worries. What I want to see is him making it through the year healthy and him starting to build momentum as the season goes.

I don't think his bad season so far is a worry, it remaining bad by March will be the issue.
