I'd look at something like Kadri for Dach and Gallagher from a Flames perspective. I'd add a conditional 2nd as sucker insurance if Dach hits 60 points on his current contract.

Edit: Scratch that. How the hell is he -20 in 24 games with over 4.5 ES GA/60?!

Stl. would be a great place for Dach to try to get his game back. Young team that can possibly put up with his subpar play, for now. What are you realistically looking for?

Rhd or center who can potentialy play on the 2nd line

Wonder what Anaheim doing with Zegras? Change of scenery for both players?
Zegras is much better than dach, wouldn’t even consider it

Zegras has done everything the team asked from him. He’s adjusted his game to be solid in all 3 zones, will battle in the corners and dzone…. Had cut down on his immaturity issues.

He’s shown he can consistently score at the nhl lvl, now he’s showing he can develop into more of a 2way player(still has his flaws but that’s why I used develop). His points are a bit down, but so are everyone’s in Anaheim.

Nobody in Anaheim wants to move Z, and we sure as hell don’t want Kirby dach or newhook, or any other garbage Montreal fans might try to throw our way.

Don't disagree with you about STL potentially being a good spot for him.

Since you asked, realistically, the Habs aren't looking to deal him. But because of the size of the fan base, there are enough short-sighted, disappointed fans who likely thought Montreal was competing for a playoff spot this year, that now want to deal him 20 games into the season after coming back from a serious knee injury.

TL;DR- He's worth more to MTL long-term than his current trade value, and the team isn't under pressure to trade him or compete this year. So unless he's traded for a similarly aged C with the same type of ceiling, it's not likely to happen.

We had to wait for the NZ poster to get some rational thinking about the Dach situation. Thx

Imagine trading picks 13, 31, 37 and 66 just to end up with Dach and Newhook. Combined they are 13 points in 24 games each and over $6m. They are stealing money every game they play. Lucky for Hughes he has some good will from the fans built up for some reason.

Yes he can!!

When playing like a precious princess, he can stay healthy..

That's exactly how he plays actually.

He could stash a dozen eggs in his shoulder pads and none of them would have a single crack after the game...
He slammed Brett Berard the other night and injured him

Those were guys pencilled in to be core pieces on the Hawks and Avalanche respectively when they were drafted.

Just goes to show you.

This feels like a very short-sighted approach. Why on earth would the Habs sell low on him now?

He's coming off a devastating knee injury last year, and clearly isn't the player he was prior (again yet). I get he's been disappointing, but why ship him off now for underwhelming return, instead of holding on to him and giving him the time he needs to turn it around.

He's not hurting their cap, and it's not like a healthy, firing-on-all-cylinders Kirby Dach makes Montreal a contender by himself, anyway...
in case he doesn't turn it around you may just pay his salary until he walks when his contract ends.

He looked good the first season in MTL. After his 2 games last year before the injury, MTL fans were certain he was going to be a near ppg center. I think maybe the fans are victims of overreavting and changing the player’s projection too much, in both directions at different times.

On the off chance he turns into a productive stopgap, the following:

Dach + Barron + 2025 MON 4th
for
Vesey + Lindgren + 2028 conditional 7th

the 7th can turn into a a 2nd + a 3rd IF IF IF
Dach can hit certain production targets over te next 2 seasons after this, assuming he can make nyr squad that long
What’s the actual incentive for Montreal making this trade? To receive two (cap dumps) players they don’t need or likely want while giving up the only player in the deal with potentially good upside, along with another potentially decent player and higher draft pick?

In your scenario, NY wins either way it turns out. There is no benefit at all for Montreal to make the trade because montreal only receives positive assets (as little as a late 2nd and late third are) if Dach actually performs, in which case he would be worth more than those late picks.

Why would Anaheim give up the player who’s already proven capable of achieving 60+ points a season (twice) for a player who’s never hit 40?
Inb4 HE ONLY DOES LACROSSE GOALS AND DOESNT PLAY DEFENSE! YOU CANT WIN WITH HIM!

Not even worth the argument.... canadian fans debate if theyd trade newhook for zegras lol

Would be very stupid to trade Dach at this point as his value has obviously tanked due to a long term injury and rough recovery. Might as well hold on to him and hope he finds his game because at one point he really looked like a future top liner for the Habs. Trading him now wouldn't solve any problems.

On average only the pick #13 generally nets you an actually impactful NHL player. Dach and Newhook were young, had high draft pedigree and were kinda proven at the time of those trades. I would do both of those deals again any day. Right now they both look like whiffs but the same thing often happens with draft picks too, you are rarely getting anything certain in that pick range and at least Dach and Newhook have already shown promise at the NHL level.

OP wanted suckers to take Dach top $/overvalued
then everybody weighed in he is not worth that
MON doing this gets all his cap off end of season, no multi yr of Dach

as to the bold there is signif risk Dach lives up to that billing
ny has no reason to take that risk at all, to do so at all, must have upside

In case you missed it (or you likely ignored it because it doesn't match your MO) Dach's contract isn't an issue. Montreal isn't competing this year and have a tonne of money coming off the books at the end of the season.

So why would Montreal sell low for cap space again? Oh right, they're not...

He's just not that guy, mentally. He's also made of glass. Montreal has to just stick with him. They're not going to get value out of him in a trade and the upside is higher to just keep him and hope he figures it out.

Low confidence, high self expectations, and hesitation to play aggressively due to injury. Add that to rust + getting back up to speed, this year was never supposed to be a good season for him.

As long as he can end the season looking good, there's no worries. What I want to see is him making it through the year healthy and him starting to build momentum as the season goes.

I don't think his bad season so far is a worry, it remaining bad by March will be the issue.
Yeah I’m not overly worried, most of the team has been bad, but the early expectations and the excitement of having a solid top 6 that didn’t pan out has been hard to swallow.

there's 0 incentive for Montreal. none.
feel the bern!

I just want this thread reopened. So many Habs telling hawks fans they should be upset at losing the Dach trade.
have you ever had reconstructive knee surgery?
takes a while for a recovery - both physical and psychological..
but lets carry on with all the sanctimonious, troll takes
and shitty trade offers from the usual cast of characters
