What is the advantage for holding off on the ltir price?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe it gives us more cap flexibility at the trade deadline to take on more salary. But someone smarter than me can probably confirm/explain better than I can.

“don't think any single contract has that kind of butterfly effect on a roster to the point that it impacts negatively on the overall performance and competitiveness of a team”
Special treatment sure as hell does. And? Hopefully this is the last of it in our franchise.
Sorry...not sure what you mean.

Remember, I'm speaking in the context of looking at Gallagher's salary, exclusively.

Yeah...it's awful.

An excuse to not build a competitive/winning team?

Pffftttt yeah right.

You just posted that you were not “ sure” about what I “mean”… Then qualified your confusion with this? I salute you!
Well...I elaborated on the post you commented on.

I guess I could have ignored the completely irrelevant post you made in response, but I wanted to give you a shot.

I stand corrected.............thanks. So in actuallity it's even worse....the Rinse and Repeat Era is not going anywhere quite yet.
Nah, we have at least another year of major awful ahead. But after this season, we have a ton of contracts coming off the books, a projected top 5 pick with the potential for multiple first round picks as well.

At the end of this season we have:

Jonathan Drouin - 5.5 Million
Jake Allen - 2.87 Million
Sean Monahan - 6.37 Million
Paul Byron - 3.4 Million
Evgeni Dadonov - 5.0 Million

You can add in Carey Price at 10.5 million LTIR (In all likelihood)

And the year after there will be:

Joel Edmundson - 3.5 Million
Mike Hoffman - 4.5 Million
Karl Alzner - .8333 Milli 9on

That's a ton of payroll going out - of course you'll see increases in pay, Caufield will get a significant raise, but that's the only one I can see that will be really large, immediately anyway. The return for the UFA's going out this year, and the UFA's/players acquired will define the Habs identity for many years. There will be growing pains for sure, and there will be frustration.... But this is the first time since the early 90s that I've really been excited about the direction the organization is taking, and I finally feel like we have once again have someone incredibly capable at the helm.

Well now we don't have to wait for the Dach announcement...we have to wait for a trade announcement...THEN a Dach announcement..lol

I heard a segment with Andre Tourigny on french radio the other day. He coached Dach on Team Canada at a few levels. He shared a story of the year he went to the WJC (the one he got injured).

He said that when they released the camp roster, Dach called him to ask him why he wasn't on the team. Tourigny mentioned that when he spoke to the Blackhawks, they said they would rather keep Dach. It was the COVID year when the league started in January. So Chicago told Tourigny that if the NHL would start, they'd want to have Dach ready for their camp.

Dach insisted that he play at the WJC. So all was settled for him to go to the WJC. He was named captain and unfortunately, he got hurt. However, Tourigny mentioned that Dach was the ultimate team player. He didn't care if he was placed in a different spot on the PP. He didn't care who his linemates were and what role he played. He was the ultimate team guy and was game to do anything required to help the team win.

Just add to that : offseason LTIR, in the case of the Habs, doesn't give them a lot of flexibility. They'll be right at the cap ceiling until they do some move to clear cap space.

Inseason LTIR would have been great, they would have been able to eat contract at the trade deadline.

If you didn’t see the athletic today, there was this good QA by Pronman.

Chicago essentially traded Kirby Dachfor Frank Nazar, and I’m wondering who would you rather have and why? — Brady S.

Great question from Brady! On the surface level, Dach is the clearly better hockey player. He’s a lot bigger, not as good a skater as Nazar but not that far off, and while Nazar is much more competitive, Dach has more natural offensive touch. Dach was a No. 3 pick for a reason. He’s a rare combination of tools between his frame, feet, skill and vision down the middle.

Dach is far from perfect though. There’s a reason why Chicago traded him. He’s a very frustrating player. Going back to his draft season in 2019, it was inconceivable how a player with his tools, who played as much as he did for Saskatoon in the WHL, was barely over a point per game in junior. He could dominate a game, as he did in the first round of his playoff series that year, and had a stretch where he had three points in 14 games.

He can be a frustrating player and I understand why Chicago wanted to move on for what looks like will be a long, painful rebuild in Chicago. They get to turn back the clock a bit, and get Nazar for longer, with more cheap years.

With all that said I would still prefer Dach, even with his imperfections. You trade that player and will basically be trying to replace him shortly after (i.e. with Adam Fantilli in the upcoming draft). Nazar is a great player, but Dach could be a true first-line center if you get him right.”

Dach really goes out of his way to pass when he should shoot. He’s a great passer but he’s extremely limiting himself if he never shoots.

PS: Even if he has the worst shot ever, he‘s better to mix it up more. He’s extremely noticeable on the ice for goalies because of his size.

I don’t think he has the worst shot ever, but he said he worked on it and knows he should try and shoot more. I guess MSL can help him with his offensive instinct. Because when he does oh man, he’s good.

Me too I'd rather have Dach over Nazar. Dach is a very talented young player, Anderson will help him how to use his size.

I'm really high on the future of Habs, Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky and Dach are going to make the top 6 really good for many years, they are all very talented with high hockey IQ and great hands.

Dach's shot looks fine to me in the highlights. It kind of remind me of Domi's.

The issue seems to be that he doesnt shoot enough
That and he doesn’t use his big body aggressively enough. And im not just talking about laying heavy checks which he could do more in offensive zone but he shies away from getting hit sometimes and doesn’t use his body well to create Space between him and the defender.

When Hughes called him at the draft he specially mentioned that he wants him to play fast and hit. Hopefully, he takes this trade as an opportunity to change his game up by shooting more and using his body better
