Doing a buy-out friendly contract to a u25 is win-win for the team

They either get term and a friendly rate or they cut their losses with a very small penalty.

I hope Hughes considers it if it comes to that. Ideally a 2 year contract is best but it leaves us exposed in the event that Dach explodes like Domi did with his 72 pt season.

Nobody's lining up to do that, that's a stupid comment

But risk/reward it could make sense with the right player. It's what Carolina is doing with Kotkaniemi, if he reaches his potential then they've got him at a great AAV right through his prime. If not, then the buyout is only $850k a year
What's the difference for buyouts on players younger than 25 that makes the buyout cost lower?

1/3rd the salary value over double the term versus 2/3rds for over25s

Anyone else think maybe we’re trying to go long term and give him something similar to the extension KK got?
I hope not. Dach hasn’t shown shitall in the playoffs and has injury issues Kotkaniemi never had.

Haven't you heard -- he's a shoe-in! :sarcasm:
His sole purpose should be to lace em up and show everyone he can run with other teams 2nd lines and get his share of important minutes. It would be a sandal would he not be able to surpass 3rd line minutes with adequate results. We know he's fast so he probably doesn't need to be a loafer. It's stilleto early to judge him anyways. Gonna need a larger size sample to make our own opinion in how he fits the team.

Until we see more all the rest is a bunch of crocs :sarcasm:

Since when? Interesting. Thanks. That's a huge difference, in the end.

Again with the shoe references!

Sandals, loafers, stilettos and crocs.

What kind of shoe store would carry all of those? Unless they’re just the assortment available at a domina’s dungeon.

There is no chance we are offering anything close to 4.8 M per year for Dach.
If we are offering Dach a long-term contract, which is a great risk in itself, its likely for around 3.5 M.
I meant it more of like a long term deal and hope it becomes a bargain, not KKs exact contract. I wouldn’t do it but I’m wondering if that’s something Hughes is pushing for.

Kotkaniemi did have injury issues (maybe not as concerning as Dach).
Kotkaniemi’s brain is injured, kid has a shitty attitude. If there’s one thing Bergevin knew it was definitely “karakter”

I donno, but KK is worth like 2.5 - 3 max.

Why is it so tough to come to an agreement though...
Because the discussions are all basically in "limbo" because theres no season at the moment
In limbo everybody is right, everybody can go on forever
And everything is hypotheticals or over-analyzation

It's a wheel that spins until AT LEAST the day AFTER the first day of training camp
Because we all know by now that first day of training camp is just one gigantic tease lol

Yeah the KK deal is not the correct comparable try as we might unfortunately
That entire situation is skewed because of the initial 1 yr 6.1 million, and they tried to save face on that overpayment by making it 4.8 while still gambling on him in Hope's he reaches some kind of top 6C status at some point during the generous contract
If they had in fact gone back down to 3 mill flat , the entire thing would of looked even WORSE than it already does for them lol

The kid just turned 22yrs old.. he was bounced around so much while playing with MTL.. give him a couple of seasons to find some chemistry, shake off his poor development and I'd bet that there's a solid player in there. You can't blame him for wanting to take the money and get out of that system that wronged him.

But he shouldn't be to camp with no contract though.

That would be amazing...

Who said it's tough?
