...calling a 50+ point season by Dach this year...kid's got the skills...I predict in two-three year's time, we'll be lauding the fact that we got Dach for Romanov and a couple of meh pics...and I always liked Romy...

Agree with that. Romanov is a good top 4 d-man, but he is not offensive like Sergachev, he is going to be a good hitter, good defensive defenseman, but adding a potential top 6 C with that type of skill, that's a no-brainer for Habs. We have already Guhle, Harris, Hutson, Struble, Engstrom, Trudeau, Fairbrother even Norlinder (i'm not high on him... but he have talent). So Habs have great future at LD. Guhle have more potential than Romanov, Hutson have high potential, Harris prove that he can play at NHL level and have top 4 potential, for sure.

Chicago is a burning everything down type S-show. Habs seem to be a bit more sophisticated in their recipe. Hopefully Dach will find opportunity to shine. He had a good rookie year...then injured and a bad year. He is still 21 and to me looks better than KK. We should all take a deep breath.

I hate to say this but I got Galchenyuk ptsd watching Dach’s highlight reel. Every time he deeks or is about to his feet spread appart parallel shoulder wide, his feet stop moving and he glides.

Hopefully it’s just that whoever cuts these vids up thinks it’s a cool move and it does not actually represent how he plays.

Scott Wheeler is not as big of a tool as Pronman but he is far from an expert of ant sort.

He seems pretty thoughtful in comparison to most people that write scouting reports. My concern is that the analysis of Dach’s game sounds like Kk in so far as he does a lot of good things but nothing exceptional.

that being said we don’t know how we’ll Hugo scouting is just yet and clearly they are going for HR swings so we’ll see a lot of busts in the process of finding gems. I’m ok with that as it’s better then the play it safe approach we’ve been used to and I’m not going to be judging them by their busts alone but by their track record of producing gamers even if they miss a few in the process.

I think we all agree that Montreal will be bottom 6ish? So we are looking at what, 205-220 goals for in total? At best? Compare with the top teams that will be in the 315-330 goals?

This will essentially be Dach's 3rd year in the nhl. Hope he can get 40-45 pts this year.

He will be the 3rd most used center, and either first or 2nd unit PP.

40-45 points would be amazing in that role, but it seems quite lofty.

30-35 would be pretty darn good on this squad.

30-35 would be a sign of stagnation. If he does not do better than 40 with the opportunity handed to him then I will take back my comments.

Why is it so hard to believe they wanted a 21 years old skilled center they can help develop and be part of the rebuild?

Plus a player that won’t cost much for at least 3 years.

Can we at least escape this Dubois non-sense on our players threads.

So were the Sens when they let Zibanejad go. The Blackhawks want to rip everything down. It's the same nonsense that has the Coyotes trading Chychrun.

They are 24 and 25... Three or four years does not make you "way older" at that age. Chicago would also have plenty of cap space since Toews and Kane are coming off the books next year.

You can keep your assumptions about KK to yourself. We’re talking about 2 different players.

I’m sold on the potential that Dach has, yes. I’m also sold on having seen enough of Romanov to know that he is a run of the mill defenseman who I don’t value as a core piece. Is it a guarantee that Dach reaches that potential? No of course not. Am I willing to give Hugo the benefit of the doubt that they clearly still see the potential in a 21yo big bodied centre who was drafted 3rd overall 3 years ago? Yes I am. I don’t really care what he has proven to this point, that’s the whole point of paying for potential. If he has lived up to his potential thus far, do you really think we’re getting him for Alex Romanov?
Let’s give the kid a chance before we start talking about having lost the trade. If that’s ‘blind faith’ then so be it but it beats whatever you call the negativity you’re spewing.

Indeed, I would have targeted him instead of Dach, imagine getting a sure thing for that low. He would have solved our wing problems... I guess he's too small...
