We trade Romanov to get a under acheiving center but could of simply drafted a center witout losing the asset on defense....

Am I to understand that Dach >>> Wright ? Because that sure feels like that's how it was evaluated too!

My head hurts Wright now...
Maybe the interviews did not go well for Wright. Maybe he did a horrible job selling himself last minute. Its not just the habs that passed on him as well.
Guess we will be spending years comparing the two.

imo I would prefer Wright to Dach (though it's 60-40 on both their ceilings).. BUT getting the hulking winger Slaf with Dach is much more appealing than Wright with ??? - you have to think of it as 2/3 of a line. While I prefer Cs, there are plenty of current playoff teams who simply cant get that power winger and is holding them back to challenege for the cup. we on the other hand got the 1 in a 100 winger with a 1 in 25 C, as opposed to drafting wright who is a 1 in 50 Center and trying to find a 1 in a 100 winger..

at least this is how I've figured out Hugo strategy on the matter. It gives us different looks on Forward.. I also think Wright might be too similar a player to Suzuki.

I'm a little underwhelmed with the Romanov skepticism on this forum. People were previously nearly uniformly high on him, now that he's traded some are saying that he's stopped developing and will never be a good top-4.

Romanov is a good player, with good potential in my opinion, but you have to give to get.

People talk about how much Caufield improved after MSL took over, but Romanov quietly took his game to another level under MSL while eating a ton of tough minutes.

Oh lord, spare me your academic jargon. It's all gambling. At the end of the day, the habs don't win anything with high probabilities. They win by having good players. At this point in time you have 0 idea who will reach their potential. Pretending like you do is such unwarranted arrogance.

The only thing we can do is wait. No one can predict the future, if they could we wouldn't have this draft. Enough.

Which is even funnier because you're not even dealing with a guy who's connected with pro hockey. It's literally just a dude on the internet.

Dach doesn't have a muffin shot. I don't like centers with muffin shots.

He just refuses to use it, that was always my gripe with him pre-draft.

I think he could be a good fit with Caufield, however. Be it at C or on the RW. I do see a lot of Blake Wheeler in his game as big, mobile playmaking W.

Something like:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Slaf - Bedard/Fantilli/Dvorsky/Carlsson - Mesar/Anderson/Roy

Lol. I pointed out why what Wright said wasn’t that on point and the posters on that thread almost went into meltdown mode.
