Oh lord, spare me your academic jargon. It's all gambling. At the end of the day, the habs don't win anything with high probabilities. They win by having good players. At this point in time you have 0 idea who will reach their potential. Pretending like you do is such unwarranted arrogance.

The only thing we can do is wait. No one can predict the future, if they could we wouldn't have this draft. Enough.
The development process under HuGo should be easily much better....easily.
Now, we need some time as the boys unfold some sort of rebuild/reset type of changes for the organization.
You would think the process ended last night, it's a work in progress.

Guess I am getting too old these days.............. some posters on here have lost their minds in the last 24 hours.

What do I care about what other folks on this board think? Like it makes any difference.

You have no idea who will reach their potential. It is arrogant to pretend you do.
There are alot of players, who do take 2-3-4 seasons to get it going....the number who are players making an impact at 18-19 years old are very few.
The kids who get rushed, don't always respond...........right away.
Stay tuned, but I like the Dach trade...

I like Dach, just not for the price we paid.

It was a missed opportunity to do something with a higher probability of success and less risk for the value given.

You don't know shit just like everyone else on these boards including me lol.

I have a good eye for Ds. I'll admit to have been often wrong for forwards, but Ds are where I often nail them.

Nailed it for Hughes and Boqvist and pretty sure Minty and Korchinsky will live up to close to their potential. It's a lot less risk than Dach.

Speaking of Dach, the last time we picked up a centre headed to bustville from the Blackhawks was Danault. We’ve got a pretty good track record dealing with Chicago.
Neither here nor there relating to Dach, but Danault wasn’t considered a bust in Chicago. We all universally hated that trade instantly.

It's not like Romanov was an established top 4 Dman either.
I certainly disagree with you there, as I've found him to be a solid, if unremarkable, fourth defenseman without a key, definitional area of strength and identity. None of the aforementioned prospects are likely to reach that level.

Guys, there's nothing to complain about with this trade.

Romanov is going to be a solid but limited middle/bottom pairing d man. Pretty unlikely to be anything more than that. Very replaceable.

Dach is going to be a very solid middle-six center that can play in multiple situations. And with a top 5 draft pedigree and at 21 years old there's still hope he can be more than that. Even if he's not more than that... we win this trade, easily. Dependable middle six centers are not easy to come by... stay at home #4/#5 dmen are a dime a dozen.

Established as a top 4 Dman...on the worse team in the NHL, sure...

But established and recognized as a top 4 Dman in the NHL?

Debatable...I definitely think he's going to get there sooner rather than later. But his limited offensive upside, limits his ceiling to that of a solid #3 or #4 Dman..

Not that that's bad...

I think Guhle's ceiling is slightly higher...Jordan Harris probably similar with less physical impact but more puck moving.

Again...I think the Habs lose less internally by moving Romanov but potentially fill a huge organizational need with Dach

Me too, whatever happened to bigger players taking more time to pan out?

We trade Romanov to get a under acheiving center but could of simply drafted a center witout losing the asset on defense....

Am I to understand that Dach >>> Wright ? Because that sure feels like that's how it was evaluated too!

My head hurts Wright now...

I'm not a fan of this.

Wright's potential is much more than Dach who may improve but seems not to be what he was expected to be.

I much would rather used the 13 pick (or traded it to move up or down) than get Dach.

I'm more upset we passed on Wright tho.

I loved Romo but he has some serious limitations. If he wasn't smashing guys he would be a pretty average defender - loses position in the D zone and so far has almost zero offense. That could change but I think his ceiling is a journeyman 4/5 that is tough to play against, with the right minutes could be 25 points.

Dach clearly has a higher ceiling and our C's are looking pretty solid, and will offer Dach some sheltered minutes. Not like he is going to have to kill penalties or take D zone draws with Evans, Suzuki and Dvorak - all three guys are very good in their own ends.

Hated this trade when announced but pretty excited looking at the lines for next year. For this wanting to tank for Bedard, don't see it happening. This team won't be great but they are big, fast and will roll 4 lines, And they have a ton of guys they can move at the TDL to stack up more picks and prospects. Exciting times ahead.

Oh hell yeahhhhhhhhh.

Just read this, fyi:

Hawks fan here: I think he was rushed into the NHL by the last regime. He should have spent a season in juniors and the AHL BEFORE coming to the NHL. The talent and skill are there he just needs to shoot the puck more often and finish at the net

Sounds familiar, does he fall a lot ? :sarcasm:

Have to wonder how much his injury at the WJC affected his play in the last couple seasons . Seems like Chicago rushed him back. That organization is a tire fire .

Let’s hope he’s healthy and let’s hope the Habs can help him develop .

Yeah I agree with this. We all kind of hoped he would turn into the type of player he was on the WJC, and yeah, he's still young yet, but there hasn't been any sort of indication that he's got a super productive offensive side to his game.

I'm not sold on Dach either by any means. But I can understand why they picked Romanov to be the one to trade with the other guys we have.

I told my buddy earlier today that this trade reminds me of when the Sens traded David Rundblad for Kyle Turris. Of course there are a lot of differences and I'm not suggesting Rundblad is as good as Romanov. But back in the day, Turris was an underwhelming 3rd overall pick playing in Arizona, and Rundblad was still a highly regarded young player picked 14th overall two years prior. In a nutshell, we ended up trading the 13th overall for Kirby Dach.

A lot of similarities there.

Welcome to MTL Kirby!

Hope he's able to hit that next level with the Habs.

I don't hate the trade, but man getting rid of Romanov is tough ... I get that we have a plethora of LD, but we traded the only one that has proven he can hang in the NHL. Hopefully the pipeline lives up to expectations and Dach becomes a solid top 6C!

also very possible, Dach in his development (including coming back from surgery) was also mired in the CHicago S**T storm, which must have played havoc on the entire squad. a team that was obviously drowning.

think CC before MSL came in - that environment was so toxic, people were ready to call him a bust. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that Dach experienced similar conditions.
