Lemieux’s great rookie season bumped them up from worst to 2nd worst. To win you need a whole supporting cast. Gretzky’s fine, but with Messier, Kuri, Anderson, Coffee, Fuhr, etc…

Most hyped and greatest draft of all time in terms of depth is 2003. It had a bunch of all stars but no generational talent.
1979 is the best draft ever. Check it out, it’s insane. Messier, Carbonneau, Anderson, A Stastny all beyond the 2nd round.

I think Slaf-Monahan-Dach would give a nice show too. Kirby is a great passer, Monahan has scored as many as 34 and Slaf will bury some feeds. The three together could drive possession and rarely be bottleed intheir own zone.

If we are ready to sacrifice the fourth line, then put Evans or Dvorak on 3LW and they can share faceoff duties.

Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson
Slaf-Monahan-Dach
Evans-Dvorak-Gallagher
4th line of penalty killers and time wasters
I found Anderson is not effective on 1st line and he can ruin Suzuki Caufield work.

Ok Ottawa is in last place and the Habs are in second to last. Either way Habs are pretty bad. And yes, to your point, they will obviously look to trade vets over the next 12 months.
Not at the level the vets are playing at. That’s the point. The he vets have sucked badly and they need to carry their weight and make themselves valuable for trade.

Out of the veteran expiring contracts, I agree with you except for monahan. If his body holds up, teams will be calling for him.

Caufield Suzuki Dach
Drouin Monahan Anderson
Arnia Evans Slaf
Pezzetta Dvorak Gallagher
Yuk. Drouin ahead of slaf, no one to feed him.

If we want Dach on the first line, the second line should include Slaf and Monahan.

I think we get better balance by playing the duos Suzuki-Caufield and Dach-Slaf and adding third guys as best we can. However, I do understand the attractiveness of our current first line.

He started off strong when playing with tue studs but he’s been sitting at 6 points for awhile now. Best of the bunch but still in the same laundry basket

Dach is almost too perfect a fit on that first line. I’d keep Anderson with Dvo and Gallagher. With them, it’s the most consistent I’ve seen him play. Second line I’d keep Monohan with Drouin and add Slaf. That way they get a possession beast as well and a shooter.

He rebounded nicely now that he is playing with skilled players. 15min TOI is still under his 18min he had with the Hawks.

I found Slaf works better with Evans than Monahan. Drouin is very skilled so i will try with In 2nd line

Slaf works better against bottom pair dmen and 4th liners......that is not a shot because playing in the NHL at 18 is incredibly difficult. Keep him with Evans until he starts to really break out and shows the ability to beat NHL defenders consistently, throw in some 2nd unit pp time and he is in a good situation.

If it wasn’t for the Suzuki Caufield and Dach line, we’d be last place. They’re literally the only forwards producing anything. Where did the vets go?? Disgusting that they vanished and play like they just dont care. I’d get rid of any and all of them at this point.
I would put them on waivers, and then ship em to Laval...............absolutely brutal hockey out of a few vets.
The message would be loud and clear.

Drouin is very skilled? Back in his Jr days maybe.
The guy is a turd since his draft year. I gave him the first 3-4 years and held out hope he would get better, he is a terrible NHL player, time to get rid of him............................get the tongues wagging and put him in Laval!!

As for Dach..............has played very well and deserves the 1st line spot!!

i also like the Drouin Monahan Anderson combo. There is a lot of skills in that line and i think that Anderson is a good fit with Drouin. I think that it could be a very good line but then the problem is that Slaf doesn't have good offensive linemates. Eventually, he could play with Ylönen.

Slaf is in learning mode, Suzuki was with 4th line guys

A lot of posters are punching air right now.

"I wanted to keep bashing the trade and pining for a nonsensical scenario where we keep the 13th pick and he keeps producing!!!!"

I was kind of determined to not like Dach as I was such a huge Romy fan, but that's all water under the fridge now.

Dach is great, and a player I'm stoked to have in our system.

A few thoughts on Dach

1. Not that long ago he was struggling and taking some shots here. MSL does EXACTLY what you should do with a young struggling player and puts him with productive players and he responds. THAT’S how you develop properly.

2. He’s not just mooching points, he’s made that top one better. Last night he had three great setups. It’s a really solid line.

3. Personally I hope we keep him there for a while so he gets his confidence going. If he goes back to center later on, hopefully he’ll be able to carry the 2nd line. If we keep him on the first for the year though, so be it.

Early days but I hope he can keep it going. Thank God we have a coach who knows what he’s doing.

And yet, several suggested that Dach’s faceoff percentage didn’t really matter for him to stay at the position. Maybe the coaching staff is seeing things differently.
I think MSL just wants to put him in a position to succeed offensively and to gain confidence. By doing so it sets Dach up to go back to C and be a productive 2C.

Yeah it seems like MSL is coaching based on what he wished his coaches did for him when he was young and trying to establish himself in the NHL.

As for Dach I agree, keep him with Caufield & Suzuki long enough for him to believe he can be top player in the NHL.
