ACL injury is not injury prone, it's a freak injury, it can happen to every player at any time. If he gets another ACL injury on the same leg moving forward that is more worrisome.

Concussion are worrisome as many players have ended their career because of them. Constant back/neck injuries are worrisome as they can become chronic and can affect the player for their whole career. Achilles injuries are worrisome as it can impact the player mobility. ACL with modern surgery and rehab is not bad, players usually comeback stronger than ever after. The issue is the missed year of development on the player.

That is not only a possibility, but a probability... and also represents just how weak our scouting departments (pro and amateur) are. Scouting is not just about the "severity" of his injuries and whether he will heal, but rather a distinct understanding of the player and his style of play which obviously leaves him open to serious injuries.

I've noticed the same with Slaf too. This is not about their skill, or size, or personality... Big kids have difficulty learning how to protect themselves while playing youth, as they're never tested. By the time they reach pros, that little bump from a junior where nothing happens suddenly becomes a serious injury against powerful men.

I have a theory that the optimal height-weight ratio for the current NHL is 6'1" 200lbs. +/- in either direction is proportionally less advantageous.
I run comparisons on the league rosters, one of them is averages usually around December 1st. This was last years league avg's:

Avg Ht: 6.01.33
Avg Wt: 198.5
Avg Age: 27.11

I remember the first time I saw Patrick Kane on the ice, he looked like a boy playing with men. Like a lot of smaller guys he must have learned young the importance of protecting yourself as much as possible on the ice. And he's had a pretty healthy career. In contrast, used to watch Martin Havlat, a very talented player who never did learn to protect himself and was consistently getting hit and missing time.

Every time you go on the ice, you're a target. Hopefully all of the Habs young players are learning this valuable lesson because there are guys on every team whose role is to be physical.

very true. Small guys learn really early to keep their head up (or else). One thing I really notice (and admire) about McDavid is his ability to keep his head up on an end to end rush. Speed is produced in the mind.

PS what were the Habs measurements avg?

Just as Sakic did on the Lehkonen trade and Yzerman did on the Petry (2) trade

Growing pains.

You seemed okay with it too.
It’s not a fair assessment of Romanov but Romanov for Dach is a no-brainer inasmuch as Dach’s injury issues were not considered chronic.

I was opposed to the trade because I felt (1) this isn’t a typical rebuilding team move and (2) Dach’s injury issues had not been overcome and he had just finished a difficult and unproductive season

Obviously at this point it looks like Hughes had different ideas for his rebuild, so topic 1 is resolved. And they either knew something or they gambled correctly that Dach would return to good health wrt his wrists.

Lecavalier and Drouin both had wrist issues and it derailed their productivity. I’m quite cautious about wrist issues to be honest but I suppose it depends on the sort of injury they suffer. Dach having a difficult year in his final season with Chicago screamed red flag, but I suppose not!

Lucky Habs, great acquisition. Now imagine he keeps improving… wow

Kirby's team needs to get in touch with Aaron Rodgers team. He needs some of that "alternative treatment" hehe

So you think I should’ve been more pessimistic? It says in that very post that I was opposed to the trade at that time and why I felt that way. So far Dach hasn’t passed 40pts a season so maybe Hughes really did overpay for him. Hard to claim otherwise.

Jeff Petry was a healthy scratch for Detroit's game under 24 hours ago.
It’s more about the cap problems in exchange for a 4th round pick and one of the worst dmen in the NHL. Petry himself should’ve never been re-acquired.

I really hate this board sometimes, some of these these negative (moronic) takes are mind-numbing.

The Dach trade was a fantastic one, and this injury is just a devastating fluke, period. It has absolutely no correalation to his prior injuries.

Where's the empathy for the player (human being) and his teammates? Including management and coaching staff.

Going into this season many suggested Dach may become our best player, now the trade was a bust.

UGH.

Well that one hurts, can't imagine 3 significant injuries in 3 seasons, won't have an effect on his development.... The potential was so huge for him, was really looking to see him play this year.
