Clarke is making the team right?

All signs point to yes. He’s to good for the OHL and can help the team generate offense right away. He has the Quinn Hughes off the charts game-sense.

But this is the Kings, so you never know. They have done things completely different from how most teams would have handled a #2 and a #5 pick, so hopefully they don’t go for the trifecta with the #7 pick (and honestly probably the most talented pick Blake has made as GM)

I know this board is overloaded with psychic geniuses but I think before we ship or buy Cal out it might make sense to wait and see how he does in game 1 of his new contract -- no?

Everyone is tugging on themselves over Clarke but it’s very early and this management group honors veterans way too much. If they don’t give him the 9 games it will be chaos around here.

But if they keep him up they can send him down to Ontario for conditioning assignments 2-3 times throughout the year. How can they pass up that opportunity?

As opposed to the current "control"?

I know you're being facetious, but as some don't know - they can't. Even though he played in Slovakia in his draft year, he is still subject to the CHL/NHL transfer agreement. Which means:
- he's not AHL eligible
- once he's sent down to the OHL, he cannot come back up until his OHL's team season ends (though I DO think the OHL team can "loan" him back, but they have no incentive to do so)
- if he plays under 10 games this season in the NHL, his contract will slide another year
- they CAN also play him for more than 9 games and send him to the OHL later, but it burns a year off his contract and all the above restrictions apply.

Herby needs some love.

It will just validate the bitching. If that doesn't happen, they'll find something else to bitch about.

I'm pretty sure that junior age players are still allowed to go to the AHL for conditioning assignments, granted they agree to it. It is not for a very long time (I think less than a week). Kirby Dach played a few games in Rockford his rookie year with the Hawks when he was 18. If it has changed in three years I stand corrected, but I don't believe it has.

And well, whatever the maximum number is allowed under the CBA lets not put it past the Kings to try and get him down for every one allowed.

Clarke is making the team right?
I’m almost ready to say 100% yes. The ONLY thing which gives me pause is wondering if he’s physically ready for an 82 game season against men who have the ability to lay the hardest hits in the world. Thinking of the rookie game 2 hit at the buzzer. He bounced back incredibly and then won the game, but he’s got to make sure he’s ready to protect himself and not get destroyed like that more than once or twice a season.

I think he FOR SURE gets his 9 games in, and I think it’s like a 75% chance he sticks the whole year. That’s even factoring in the Kings’ bias against rushing young players. Immediately, he is simply is better than the other options available which I think is how Todd prioritizes things.

Yes, a player has to agree to it, but it's also playing with fire. The CBA has a provision that gives Bettman the ability to investigate the claims if the conditioning assignment is used to evade another provision.

Since the CHL agreement is meant to prevent poaching, Barrie should be able to file a grievance, and I can't see where the Kings would win that battle.

Since 2017 the Kings have drafted the following...

Vilardi at 11th pick
Kupari at 20th
Turcotte at 5th
Byfield at 2nd
Clarke at 8th
Hughes at 51th in the 2nd round

The best player out of the bunch is the 8th pick, a D.

The Kings should stop drafting forwards, especially center.

IMO, but looking at that list, besides Byfield, who hasn't impressed me, Hughes is the most likely to break out. Proving once again the Kings are better at taking forwards in later rounds.

Clarke’s NHL resume consists of a whopping TWO preseason games and Kings fans have him labeled as the next Bobby Orr.

Absolutely not. I think he’s had more than enough time to dethrone quick and it’s been even stated that it was his spot to take and he hasnt

it's all just a cottage industry of repackaging other peoples work
Tell me about it… ‘expected goals for‘ should actually be called ‘Statto’s Goals For - copyright 2001‘. Unfortunately all the evidence is on a 3 1/4 inch floppy disk.

EDIT: Posted before I finished. I didn’t invent this stuff either, it’s been around a while just now more standardised and public.

Some people on twitter are just promoting their own services so they aggregate them, some people are just checking natural stat trick.

Either way... at 2 games I wouldn't put MUCH stock into the fancy stats over the eye test.
Completely agree. When I used to do the advanced stats at pro level, we didn’t look at ANYTHING until we completed the first 8 game segment. We would then asses things on a segment by segment basis alongside a running total. Even then certain stats we’d only assess once we had several segments or the previous seasons numbers to aggregate - a mess of spreadsheets.

At this point the eye test is by far the most important ’stat’, even if it is nice that the underlying numbers support what we are seeing. Incidentally preseason and non competitive games were always kept seperate and were never aggregated into the big picture as they always produce statistical outliers.

Hadn't seen this on the board today, so apologize if it was mentioned....but Insider reported that Turcotte was back on ice today.
That’s good news. I assume he’s skating on his own currently and/or with the main group wearing a non contact jersey?

I bet he gets chirped pretty good for the Sherwood equipment haha, hope he is getting paid.
f***ing Sherwood still!
Don't hate, these were the shit:

didn't say:

"Regarding others, Cal Petersen can be considered “day-to-day” at this point, while Sean Durzi is “close” to rejoining the full group for camp skates. Viktor Arvidsson continues to progress on his own timeline, while Alex Turcotte is also back on the ice and working towards a return to action."
