Cap dumps signed last offseason lol. Heinen has been good for pittsburg, so they probably dont even see him as such. Vincent Desharnais probably gets pittsburg a mid-pick next TDL. Cant believe Dubas managed to school someone..
Mistakes were made and they fixed them, it happens.
What's the other thought? to keep both Heinen and Desharnais for another year each?

Utilize them better. Its not like Heinen has forgotten how to play hockey. Desharnais might have been a flash in the pan but big guys tend to get valued by someone come playoff time. Trade him for a 1m player and then just dump that in the playoffs, cap gone.

Heinen has always been a streaky winger, but I still think he's a better player than O'Connor. O'Connor is just painfully meh.

I understand thought that Heinen's inclusion was more about the cap, and they mostly got back O'Connor to just replace Heinen at forward. Still though, Fernstrom and what looks like a potential #15 pick for a rental Pettersson and O'Connor is really pricey.

O'Connor is an archytype that might work better for vancouver and if it doesnt, who cares. Doubt hes a relevant part of this deal in 3 years.

He was decent in his first season with the Pens (though he did play with Geno for a lot of the season), vey meh his second season. He is what he is, a streaky 3rd line scorer with very little physical game. I see Canucks used him on the PK, something Sully rarely did during his first stint with the Pens.

I'd be shocked if Pens can flip Desharnais for a mid round pick, maybe a 6th or 7th if he's looking vaguely compotent come deadline.

So Hyman just magically went from a high of 41 points playing with “Me First” Matthews to 83 and 77 points (with 54 goals) because you expected a 30 year old to just double their best production on his own. I need that crystal ball you used to make that prediction.
Hyman was at a 63 point pace in his last season as a Leaf. After 2023, his best pace with Edmonton was 79 points, which is better but not drastically so.

I'm not sure if the Canucks....

  1. Have a plan, but don't know how to execute it.
  2. Don't have a plan, and are just winging it.

...But their moves are all over the place and they seem to lose every single trade. Bottom line...There's been a lot of talent on the roster over the past few years and they've had 2 playoff appearances in the past decade. I'm sitting way out in the cheap seats on the east coast, but even from here I can see no Canuck fan should have confidence in their management.

imagine looking at their previous defense, the moves the team has made, and claiming “don’t have a plan” .. keep on having no clue

Heinen is oatmeal..........with no toppings to spice him up. He's gotta be one of the blandest Canucks ever - definitely serviceable but really not gonna be missed at aLL. His replacement already stood out 10x more last night then i can ever recall him doing in his short stint with us.

And Desharnais is a contract we are thrilled to be done with - a big guy who doesn't play big..........and can't do much of anything except PK A little.......

As a Nucks fan I'm totally fine with what we paid here. A top 4 LHD was our biggest need and it got addressed pretty solidly with MP......

Comparable to what the Canucks were icing with Forbort, Juulsen, Desharnais and Myers. Yes

Upside is always going to be what a player can bring that is currently lacking

“Upside” is usually a term used to describe the player’s ability to improve, develop, etc. Essentially describe how close they are to their ceiling.

Ie - “Right now, Joe McHockey is terrible in the defensive end, but he’s 19, with upside”

We have Beauvillier and Nieto, a trio of oatmeal LWers. At least Desharnai contract is only 1 more years unlike Ryan Graves.

It’s all relative to how you use it. Both ways are correct.

Hard disagree. I have always been struck by O'Connor when watching your team and secretly hoped we could get him.

I'm not sure if Sullivan's system didn't play to his strengths, or else if you don't understand his skillset.

But I see big, fast player who knows where to be and works hard. He's also scored 16 goals before in this league and I've seen him play, and play decently, with Crosby for stretches.

I don't think he's just a throw-in at all.

And from what I've seen from both players, he's in a different stratosphere from Heinen (though Heinen was good for Boston).

You’ll like Petts also with the defenseman he’s developed into. The only thing I ever found frustrating is he just won’t use his size to put on a big hit. Other than that he doesn’t often make big mistakes. He will go through a 2-3 game stretch that will leave you scratching you head at times with why is he making small mistakes but he is rarely the guy you are pointing the finger at solely with a goal against. You need a #4 that can go out and crunch minutes and cover for your #3 in a pinch. Petts is your man. Wish him nothing but the best of luck I enjoyed his time as a Pen.

Imagine watching a playoff hopeful team trade their best forward for pennies on the dollar, instead of the worse and higher paid one.

They don't have a plan
