2 cap dumps and a protected 1st for a top 4 D-man is great value.
You are being silly

Cap dumps signed last offseason lol. Heinen has been good for pittsburg, so they probably dont even see him as such. Vincent Desharnais probably gets pittsburg a mid-pick next TDL. Cant believe Dubas managed to school someone..

Mistakes were made and they fixed them, it happens.
What's the other thought? to keep both Heinen and Desharnais for another year each?

Utilize them better. Its not like Heinen has forgotten how to play hockey. Desharnais might have been a flash in the pan but big guys tend to get valued by someone come playoff time. Trade him for a 1m player and then just dump that in the playoffs, cap gone.

Heinen has always been a streaky winger, but I still think he's a better player than O'Connor. O'Connor is just painfully meh.

I understand thought that Heinen's inclusion was more about the cap, and they mostly got back O'Connor to just replace Heinen at forward. Still though, Fernstrom and what looks like a potential #15 pick for a rental Pettersson and O'Connor is really pricey.

O'Connor is an archytype that might work better for vancouver and if it doesnt, who cares. Doubt hes a relevant part of this deal in 3 years.

He was decent in his first season with the Pens (though he did play with Geno for a lot of the season), vey meh his second season. He is what he is, a streaky 3rd line scorer with very little physical game. I see Canucks used him on the PK, something Sully rarely did during his first stint with the Pens.

I'd be shocked if Pens can flip Desharnais for a mid round pick, maybe a 6th or 7th if he's looking vaguely compotent come deadline.
