The thing with Clarke is it's not just a random small sample size--yes he needs to do it full time vs full time NHLers but he has absolutely ripped apart every level just like this. There's a track record of absolute dominance and now he's showing it vs. pro adults (in NA--he previously did overseas), there's almost literally nothing else he can do, he's been involved in almost every goal and controlling 3/4 of every game!

I thought youd be happy about it. Youre always complaining that everyone is doom and gloom.
Were all psyched on Clarke. And you dont approve the happiness.
Right, until he gets sent back down to OHL and you guys go on full meltdown mode.

I don't think two pre-season games is a big enough sample size to label the org insanely ignorant if he doesn't stick with the club. Let's see how things play out in next two weeks.

Well yea were seeing how it plays out in real time and hes a gem. Let us have this one!! At least for now. The meltdown when he gets sent down because of guys like Walker and Edler aint gonna be pretty.

It's easy to forget that the kid went to Europe to play against men in his draft year and excelled. The Kings should have been prepared for this coming out party. Now it's likely he gets his 9 games max and gets sent back to the CHL unless they manage to trade a RHD off the active roster quickly.

Clarke and Spence will - sooner or later - force the Kings to move 2 or more of these:
Durzi, Walker, Grans. Because there are 4 RHD ahead of all of them: Doughty, Clarke, Roy and Spence. If Clarke ends up going back to the OHL, it could be later. If Clarke outplays
everyone in a 9 game stint and sent back, only to give Durzi a spot, that’s not okay.

I hope some GMs need / covet a RHD that has some offensive talent and soon calling the Kings and make a good offer for Durzi, honestly. (I’m sure some will ask for Spence. But would hang up on that) Love Durzi’s jam and intensity….but he’s not quick,(loses most all foot races, despite moving his feet and ‘looking fast’) not so great defensively, 2 levels below Clarke’s offensive mind and talent and is honestly 5th on the depth chart on the right side. Getting a 2nd round pick and free 1.7 million would be perfect…and give Sean a chance to play somewhere. Would not deal Spence. He’s just too good and will only get better. Grans has nowhere to play here and hope he excels this year in the AHL, puts up 40 points and is part of a trade package as well by next Summer. The Kings should try to get a young goalie or second round picks for 2023,
for Durzi, Grans.

Gatekeepers gonna gatekeep. Undoubtedly with misrepresentation of what people are saying, anyway. That's why I ignore them.

We’ve been waiting for a player like Clarke for a while. If he continues this play into his 9 rsg (not just preseason), then Blake has to make room - no question.
I’m the meantime, I enjoy watching him. I think it’ll be good for QB to have Clarke around. A peer so to speak.
I have not been as excited about a Kings prospect since Doughty.

not sure where to look in this thread but can anyone give me some insight into JAD's camp and if the team is going to have to expose him to waivers just due to the depth of other players on the team.

I've said it in a few threads now but I appreciate Blake's patience here. There's no rush. No one is being hurt by this. Walker has to play himself into shape for value, Spence getting big minutes in the AHL is great. The depth chart is loaded for bear in case of injury but a guy could be moved without causing too much pain. I think the D is in GREAT shape going into the year and has the best chance of yielding a high-end LHD or blue chip goalie prospect or whatever nuclear deadline addition is possible.

My pipe dream is Robertson though :naughty:

I suspected that Clarke had a decent chance making the team for a few reasons. He's played in a men's league, has high end offensive skill, nothing to learn in minors, & Blake needs a win.

For me it was one shift, his OT shift. Sure he got caught by Eichel. Before that he stuck all over his guy 3v3 the whole shift before forcing a turnover. Guy can defend. Lack of defense is what's going to get him sent down.

He did make a gamble or two during the Vgk game where Clarke didn't take the body & relied on his skill to make the play. If he missed it was a breakaway. That's going to give Todd heartburn, but can be coached.

Outside of an injury or mono Clarke has a good shot at this point. Even if he plays every other game, NHL is better for his development.

He's a good energy player. Definitely fighting for a roster spot.

However, as RJ mentions, at risk for being waived. One of JAD, Vilardi, or Andersson will probably hit the waiver wire. Here are the likely players on the starting roster:

Forwards (11):
Kopitar
Kempe
Fiala
Moore
Danault
Kaliyev
Iafallo
Byfield
Lemieux
Lizotte
Grundstrom

IR (1):
Arvidsson

Battling for the final spots:
Vilardi
Anderson-Dolan
Andersson

Defense (6):
Doughty
Anderson
Roy
Walker
Edler
Durzi

Competing for final spots (3):
Clarke
Spence
Bjornfot

Goaltending (2):
Quick
Petersen

So, for a 23-man roster, there are 19 definites in my mind - 20 when Arvidsson comes back. One of those HAS to go to a D, to be rolling with at least 6, so that makes 20 with Arvidsson. 6 players fighting for 3 spots. And you'd want at least one backup D. So that leaves 2 spots for the remaining 5. Even if you picked 2 forwards - one would be waived.

Edit: forgot Durzi. Thank you @Follow The Reaper

I won't go into full meltdown mode if he gets sent back down. Outside of Doughty, I haven't seen any other defenseman impact the game like he does right off the bat. I get that it is a small sample size, but the best hockey scouts will recognize that he's ready with what he's shown thus far.

I'll say this: 90% chance he gets 9 games - 65% chance he sticks after those 9 games based on what i've seen so far.

The play in OT was a big eye opener, but the play where he broke up a 2 on 1 was bigger. He was even calling out and waving for his teamates to take a position before he choked of the pass

Unless he sh**s the bed in the next 2weeks,, LA would be dumb to send this guy back to the minors. It would nothing for his career.

If logistics are truly in play, they would be better suited to let him go to Europe somehow to play

Did Durzi die or something?

I would include Kupari and Moverare on your list of players battling for spots.

EDIT: And of course Durzi.
