News Article: Kings Should Trade Their First Round Pick

How about Jarret Richards?

All I know is this guy can party:partytime:

There is no reason to trade the pick other than; someone offering you a legit package/player that makes your team significantly better.

I can see a few reasons the one you have mentioned but also maybe Dean and Futa like a someone who they feel will be available later on. So they trade back and by doing so get another pick.
Or
A team covets someone at 13th and are willing to take on richards to trade up

I would do it. That contract is an albatross. IF you can get out from under it, it's worth it.

I doubt the number one will play for a couple of years anyway. Kings have maybe another two to three year window imho.

Maybe with the money you rid of Richards you can keep Sekera.

Unless someone is dumb enough to take Richards without the first.

**** Sekera. Let him walk and use the cap space elsewhere. He's going to want Petry money now as a minimum and he isn't worth that. Hopefully Voynov is able to come back.

Better in the short term if you can trade Richards with the 1st. Better in the long term to keep the pick. With what will probably be a decent increase in Kopitar's contract after next year, someone else will probably have to be traded, making it that much more difficult to win it.

If you could get free of that contract for just the 1st pick, and make the team as good as possible for next season, especially the defense, I'd say do it. If you also have to retain salary, or throw in another top prospect on top of the pick, then maybe the buy out is the way to go.

What does our second pairing look like with no Sekera and if (theoretically) Voynov does NOT come back?

He was asking for 5.5 to 6M before the Canes traded him, that's one of the reasons he was moved.

And since Elliot Friedman and co are saying the Kings are one of the teams seriously pursuing Mike Reilly, it could be DL already knows that 4.8 won't get him Sekera and is looking at other options.

I would be willing to let Voynov and Martinez go to keep Sekera and the 13th pick in the draft this year.

Barring any UFA dipping, it'd likely be Martinez and McNabb, with Greene and I'd assume Forbort or Schultz in the third pairing.

If Skerea re-signs for 5.5 I would be thrilled.

You and I would not be in agreement.

Voynov is the better of the two (Sekera/Voynov) or at the very least an equal so I wouldn't pay Sekera more than what I would be willing to pay VV. I also wouldn't deal away our 1st under any circumstance. I would bring up Forbort and bring him along the same way we did McNabb this season. There will be lumps and bumps but at the end of the season we will have yet another solid bottom 4 dman ready for the playoffs. We missed the show by 1 point this season. We needed Pearson back and next season we have room for another of our kids to step in to our forward group with the loss of Stoll and Willie. Voynov will work itself out and if he is lost to us then we will have the cash to fill the spot. It won't be optimal but it also won't be the end of the world either. I wouldn't give up our 1st under any circumstances this year. We have other assets (3rd round and later pic's plus prospects etc) that can be used if needed. Trading our first should only be done IF we are to get back another better add to our team (move up or down in the first round or for an equally valuable prospect(s) etc).

This is a deeeeeeeep draft and having a pick in the top 15 is like having a top 10 pick any other year. It is just too valuable to move. DL is supposed to be one of the top 3 GM's in the game (I think he is tops) and it is up to him to find the best option to deal with the team. He said he has 4 scenarios and will pick one of them and do what he (and co) feel is the best smartest move that can be made to help the team but I think that if we move the 1st to make cap space (MR etc) then we are making a big mistake. Let DL find another way to fix that problem, this years 1st is just too valuable.

I am good if LA keeps their pick but because it is so deep you could also say having a later pick is more valuable than in the past too.
