News Article: Kings Should Trade Their First Round Pick

DL cannot lose in my eyes this year.
If he trades down and sheds richards I am game (even if it mean moving out of the 1st round)
If he keeps the pick and doesn't draft off the board I will be happy as well.

Did you guys notice that Julia Roberts' brother Eric wrote this article?

The Kings Should Trade Their First-Round Pick
by Eric Roberts | June 1, 2015

You may remember him from horrible movies such as Rude Awakening

Best of the Best

and Star 80

Good to see that you are still working Eric!

Considering the Kings would be eating salary penalties for ten long years in case of a buyout I'd strongly consider a trade like that, if available. I definitely wouldn't be happy about it but it's worth giving some serious thought.

Of course DL wouldn't do that and that's why Roberts is a hockey blogger on the internet, not even a real journalist , and not NHL front office material.
Citing Weal and ONeill as reasons the Kings would give up a true blue chip first round talent is ridiculous. Their success in the AHL is terrific, but it's not the NHL and it remains to be seen if either would be a top 6 player in the NHL. Neither are the elite player, the kind that can make an immediate impact as that #13 will be, hopefully a top winger, something they need. I also disagree with his argument that there isn't room in the current lineup for that #13 drafted. Last time I checked, there was a hole in the top 6 wing. They might not be in a position to draft this high next year, so unless they intend to move up higher, getting a better pick, you keep it.

This is a good summation of my feelings on the subject.

Roberts is an absolute hack.

I'm surprised so many people are in favor of handicapping the team for 10 years with a buyout.

Giving up an asset to get rid of MR is more responsible. You can make shrewd moves via free agency and trades over the years to try and compensate for the lost asset, but ounce you buy him out, you're stuck with the dead cap space.

The comments are pretty funny. Roberts clearly doesn't even understand the cap, or basic logic for that matter.
