Kupari's team won game 1 of the second round of the playoffs today but he didnt have any points. He isnt doing much on the score sheet in the playoffs unfortuantely.

It's actually the third round. Karpat had a first round bye.

Futa made the point in an interview that he was frustrated by not doing more to get Porky over here. Maybe this offseason something changes there.

LAKI Article - Nov. 2018

LAKI: When you were in Russia to see SKA, were you there to see Nikolai Prokhorkin, or was it primarily more scouting?

MF: Well, it’s the same. Blakey, we talked about this new group, I’m combining it. I’m looking for free agents and just looking for skill, and it happens that I always try and see our own guys when I’m over there as well. So, the Kupari thing worked out well. I met with [Jacob] Moverare. He didn’t play the night that I was in to see him. And then Prokhorkin’s game, the first night he was coming back from the Deutschland Cup I believe, and they sat him out, which was frustrating. And sat [Alexander] Dergachyov out, which was frustrating. It’s not like you’re going down to the South Bay to watch an exhibition game when I get to Russia, but I think the thing with Prokhorkin is he’s really produced this year, and the next game he dressed and he had three goals and two assists. Pavel Datsyuk sat out that game and he played in the top line and he was excellent.

LAKI: Is there a good bond between you two?

MF: Oh, I’ve known Nikolai. The bottom line, it’s the same thing with Kubalik. Kubalik had a hat trick against Russia that Sunday. It’s like Groundhog Day. I meet ‘em every year, and we’ve grown up together talking about coming over to play, but in fairness it gets old. It gets really old. I mean, these guys want to play in the National Hockey League and I understand some of the European players have a little bit of a discrepancy about not wanting to play in the American Hockey League, but I think it’s time we get a player like that when you’ve got a player like that to get ‘em signed and get ‘em over here and play on our National Hockey League club and deal with it if there’s some chance that he doesn’t make the National Hockey League club. But when you see Prokhorkin show a game like that, there’s really no question that he’s skilled enough. It’s whether he can adapt to the NHL game. But, get him signed now is my recommendation when I talked to Blakey when I got back, and you know what? I mean, if you want to make the National Hockey League, come and make our team and play in the National Hockey League. We’d be thrilled.

LAKI: Is this the final year of his contract there?

MF: Yeah, and again, he gave me his word that he wasn’t signing a new deal.

I'm kind of "I'll believe it when I see it" when it comes to Prokhorkin. Will he, Won't he? If he does, I'm not sure how fantastic he is going to be. It sounds like there's a possibility that Kovy is moved this off-season, does that affect Porky's decision? Maybe, maybe not. Is he the 6 goal guy or the 20 goal guy? Don't know, but he'll fit right in with the discrepancies in his point totals. But I do want him to come over and play next season, just out of curiosity. Curious to see if he's any good. Hope so.

He was a point a game player in the KHL this season, that should translate into some good numbers at the NHL level if put into a position to succeed.

JAD had an assist in Spokane's 6-3 win. They lead the series 1-0. Game 2 is tonight.

Neither Dergachev or Prokhorkin played in SKA's 3-2 win. Not sure if they are injured or a healthy scratch. The series is tied 3-3.

SKA vs. CSKA (completed, above)
London vs. Guelph (Durzi, Phillips)
Niagara (Thomas) vs. Oshawa
Saginaw vs. Sault Ste. Marie (Villalta)
Everett vs. Spokane (Anderson-Dolan)

Edit: Originally marked as scoreless as I didn't see his name in the Boxscore last night; thank you, Frolov!
