Agreed. Its fools gold to build with FAs in the cap era. We need to use picks and prospects and get an asset with an existing contract that maybe gives time to evaluate - like Arvy's transaction. We cant take on any more Danaults.

I am ok with Crazy Goon 1,2 and 3 but you can keep OEL and Drouin.

Not out of camp but he could be as the year and roster evolve.

OEL would be a good mentor for Clarke. Could probably get retained to 6AAV. Improve the team & PP & cost little to acquire asset wise. I'd take OEL over Chychrun's injuries & cost to acquire. Provorov would be a good target depending on price & availability.

Drouin, hopefully Blake can find someone better. Kings need a cheap AAV, vet, scorer for Iafallo & Byfield. Iafallo=Moore, Byfield=Danault, need an Ardvidsson vet high volume shooter. Tye issue is cheap because Forsberg & Fiala would be great if no cap. Your looking at Buro & Val on the Avs a few years ago when they were added, not the player today. Puljujarvi, Zacha, Zadina, guys that may take a step forward or could see a pop with a change of scenery.

OEL still has 5 years left on his contract and for me that's just to many. Drouin is damaged goods. Generally I agree on the rest you probably have to take a chance on someone who has potential they just haven't achieved yet like Vilardi.

It's 7.25. And considering at this point Cal looks like complete dead money you would get him for 3 years at 2.25 (other entry-level assets would go the other way) and two more years at full price. He's still a solid top 4 D and would unquestionably improve the PP. He'll be 31 next season and may finally have something to play for. Of course someone younger and cheaper would be better but they have to be available.

Tanner Jeannot would be a great, I dont see it happening, but we could do with more toughness and a few goals

We're not adding a pick.

Toronto gets to dump Mrazek's deal while upgrading and saving a bit of cap space. And fill their backup role.

Mrazek plays in the AHL for us since we need a goalie down there.

If you can sign Campbell it upgrades our goaltending, plus gives stability after Quick is gone next year.
 
OEL was sucking up a lot of time in AZ & is playing a shutdown role with Van still. Isn't on PP1 unless Hughes is injured. Believe his cap is 7.2 on Van. 6AAV is what I'd be looking for. Cal could go back as well. Playing on the PP & on the second pair with Roy the King's can maximize OEL's strengths. Length of contract doesn't bother me. If some prospects don't start hitting soon 4-5 years out Kings will be in rebuild 2.0 anyways.

Drouin has speed, shooting, playmaking. Drop him on Byfields line in LA with zero fan pressure & see what happens. 50% retained at 2.5 isn't much risk.
 
I just don't see the point in taking on 'risky' vets at this point when we're in the driver's seat.

Like you can come up with good reasoning/theories for guys like OEL and Drouin and et. al. but...why take guys that are and have underperformed on longer-term deals when we have assets and spots and are on the upswing?

If we really feel we can't fill a slob like Drouin or a f***ing mess like OEL internally, we're DOA anyway. Now's not the time for 'hope' trades. We need guys that can handle exposure, too.
