GDT: Kings off-season thread

In regard to Chychrun, he's never played more then 63 games in a season and that was his rookie year. He missed 160+ games in his 6 years. That's 2 seasons. I would have a hard time with that.

There's no available top 4LHD without warts. That's why they'd be available. For the price most are willing to pay anyway. I'm sure Clarke could get you something nice.

Grundstrom certainly isn't as good as Brown was, but it doesn't really matter.

He's a high-end middle 6 forward who can pot 20 goals and 40 points in a good year.

One thing that I find underrated about his game is his shot. It's surprisingly good.

Call me an unrealistic fan, but I actually think Grundstrom is a good fit for the Kopitar-Kempe line. He's a nice complimentary player, who can shoot and score trash goals. IMO, one of the reasons the Kings goals-expected verse goals-scored ratio is so low is because no one is scoring greasy goals around the net.

After watching Chychrun play against the Kings this season, Not once after a game did I think to myself that LA "needed" this guy. Didn't play tough, didn't show amazing decision making, didn't show defensive awareness, didn't show game breaking offense. You know, all the things we are wanting from our added dman. Rather some other team overpay for the guy.
In my opinion he knows how to shoot really well, but the rest of his game is pretty average.

Also, he is injury prone…

Not saying I want Chychrun, but go back a few years ago and the whole league said the same thing about Doughty. If you give him something to play for and I think he'll be much better.

You are really bad at comprehension.
The stats are per 60 minutes.
If Brown is getting first line mins , he overall stats will of course be higher than one getting 4th line mins

I am slower than the speed of Chazz
Oh please Brown was getting top line minutes because he was a top line player Grundstrom was getting 4 th line minutes because he is a bottom 6 player. Grundstrom could be give twice the minutes Brown was he wasn't going to score 30 goals or 60 points. A completely pointless comparison.

You may have a point there.

I'm not opposed to going after Chych, but the reported price tag (4 1st round equivalent assets) was ridiculous.

I also don't love the fact that he's a UFA in 3 years.

Please go read the stats. Their stats per 60 are very close

Anyone think Chromiak makes the team next year? If he puts in some work this offseason and maybe bulks up a little? Wouldnt be surprised if they put him next to Kopitar and Kempe in camp like they put Fagemo on the top line last years camp.
If a 20 year-old completely untested rookie is put on Kopitar's wing in training camp then Blake has completely failed this summer.

Yeah, not really the same player right.

They're not getting another Doughty out there. But yes, if you put competitive people in a more competitive environment, they might compete more.

You may have a point there.

If they don't have anything going by the 2025 deadline, who cares if he's a UFA. Trade him and get something for the next rebuild.

So what. It is a stupid comparison. It tells you nothing about there relative worth. It is someone that is trying to pump Grundstrom by using advance stats.
The majority of those aren't "advance" stats. Standardizing for minutes played to give a more direct comparison of traditional numbers like goals, hits, points, etc. doesn't require any sort of complex calculation or theoretical model (like Game Score Value Added, for instance).

Just spitballing here, should/could/would the Kings offer sheet Jason Robertson? He is a local kid, so more PR like TO Trevor Moore and Dallas is at the cap it looks like. Also, who would they offer sheet back that we are afraid of leaving? Byfield, Turcott, Vilardi, Clarke? Clarke might hurt a little, but Robertson had 79 points this year. I don't know if he was lightning in a bottle this year, but I think I would take a chance on it. He fits in with our core age group.

Dallas will do whatever it takes to keep him, Hintz and Heiskanen together as they are the core. They have people coming off and will most likely let Klingberg walk. He is too good to let go.

And Dustin always played with Kopitar and had PP time...Grundstrom has rarely played any minutes with the more talented players. Give him a shot. He never really disappoints. Kings need strength up front and watching him stiff arm Nurse and bullying his way to the net, knocked down and pushing the puck with his stick flat on the ice, into the goal? That was STRAIGHT LUMBERJACK SAVAGE. (I just made that up and like it!)

Robertson had a monster year and is the real deal. 0% they let him walk.

I really don't understand what management has against this guy and why he isn't given the chance to play every game

He was one of our best players in the post season. He should be a lock to re-sign given he's a RFA and the players have already come out and said they need to get tougher next season.

Yes, but he was too busy scoring against us the past few seasons. I would turn around and the same dude potted one in the net over and over. I was like, 'WTF is this Mutherf***er?'

I think this season may have shown his true colors in the sense that he's always hurt. Not to mention that the cost to acquire him has already shown that it's sky high.... but for a blue-line like ours that doesn't score and the league's worst PP it's awfully tempting.

Plenty of moves to work on, no need to waste time.

I like Grundstrom a lot, but I feel everybody is reaching a bit much on his playoff performance. It was a lot like Clifford’s rookie playoff performance in 11 when Kopitar was hurt. Clifford scored 3 goals and 2 assist in 6 games. But he was never close to that player again.

Now Grundstrom maybe a late bloomer who needs more minutes to blossom into a good player, or he could’ve just been a player on a hot streak for a couple a games.

Let’s not pencil him into the top 6 over someone like Kempe, Moore, Arvidsson and Kaliyev (who is like Grundstrom but seems to be more proven at a younger age).

I agree.

Kopitar need to be kept far away from our upcoming youngsters.
He has proven now for several years that he doesn't have the skill and the mindset anymore to be a 1st line center.
Pairing him with speedy and skilled youngsters would be a crime

I believe those stats are just 5 on 5. Also, P/60 is a funny stat(well almost all rate stats are), they can create odd groupings when you view the entire league.

This year Brown had a 1.68 ES P/60, which placed him in the same group as guys like Brandon Saad, Dawson Mercer, Matt Luff, Nick Suzuki, Rickard Rakell, PLD and Michael Amadio.

This year Grundstrom had a 1.49 ES P/60, which placed him in the same group as guys like Namestnikov, Lindblom, Cirelli, Brendan Lemeiux, Yamamoto, Devin Shore and Teuvo Terravainen.

I think outside of outliers(both high and low), it's hard to pull too much info out of them. Kind of like plus/minus in a way.
