Okay, I get why you're supposed to block shots, but maybe it's better if Kopitar just lets Quick make the save on the Leafs' second goal? Easy save for Quick if Kopitar doesn't tip it. After it goes in you can see the body language on Quick, like, "Why did you do that, Kopi?"

On the ice, if you have confidence in your goalie to make a routine save, I say you just get your stick out of the way. I mean if you're five feet away and can get stick on puck, great. If you're fifteen feet away and the best you can hope for is to deflect the shot into the corner, maybe you just let it go.

Pretty bad goal even with the tip

Why not? Have you not looked at the east? Apart from the Bruins and Penguins its wide open, Leafs have already proven they are capable of hanging with the Bruins in a 7 game series, Toronto is easily the 3rd best team in the east, they also tend to play well and match up well with the Penguins as both play a fast tempo style of hockey.

Easily? No no they are not. They are one of 4 teams that could be the 3rd best in the east.
An argument could be made that if the Flyers did not start so poorly they would be higher in the standings and should hold that label. However their goaltending is not as strong as Toronto's.
The Rangers I think are more of a cup threat than the leafs. If MSL can start gelling with Richards like it was 04 look out. With nash and king hennrick they have big game performers.
With a healthy price the habs are just as good of a team as Toronto. And if Vanek clciks the leafs should be scared about playing them in round 1.

Cruddy game. Lots of bad breaks, but we played crappy. Couldn't sustain possession, trying to hard, being too transparent. That kind of game won't work against a leafs defense/forecheck which is basically "hey he has the puck, lets have 3 players go get him". Wasn't thrilled with Doughty either, he made some really good plays but was trying to be a one man team too man times. Hopefully he calms down a bit vs. the Ducks. I think there is a lot of truth to the idea that he was puckhogging in order to get some special attention from Canadian media....

Anyway, good win for the Leafs. Despite them being opportunistic, I thought they were the better team. The played like they wanted to win, and didn't give up a lot of open ice, even though they gave up a lot of scoring chances. it was partially because of their rabid dog defense that no one could capitalize on any of those chances. They were literally man-handling the Kings, which is amazing because the Kings are supposed to be a "big and strong" team. We did not look big and strong, we got handled...By an East coast team. :p:

A little edit also, if the Kings played more like a team tonight, I think the Leafs defense wouldn't have been so clogging of our offense. When everyone tries to be "the guy" too much, getting ganged up on usually ends possession.

Players will always try and get a stick on the puck. Kopi has no idea if quick is being screened, or an opposing player is sitting there waiting for a rebound. It's just bad luck that the puck still was on a path to go in while being deflected.

If the Kings win 8 in a row twice in the post season, we will all be happy campers.

A lot of "If's", leafs don't have ifs so that's why they are where they are, aside from some bad defense which we all know about.

Lets be honest, the leafs first line has been one of the best this year, their tenders have played some fantastic hockey as well. Last night was a good comeback win for the leafs and being a fan right now; emotions are pretty high.

Kings and Leafs would make a pretty good series though! Leafs always seem to play to the other teams level and I have a feeling it would be a pretty physical series! Best of luck guys!

I think they are the 3rd best team in the East but not easily as the other poster put it. To say the leafs don't have if's is just asinine.

Can't win them all. We just made a lot of little mistakes. It happens. I liked how much pressure we maintained and that the team found some urgency even though they couldn't tie it. I'm sure we will see a renewed effort next game. Also, welcome to the scoreboard Marian Gaborik! GO KINGS!

Your right, ofcourse the leafs have ifs, shoulda worded it a little better as that's not what I ment.

The ifs the other poster is referring to are different than what the leafs have at this point in time though, those are teams that have made trades and hoping for some chemistry.

I am the other poster.
It is reasonable to think Price will be healthy for the playoffs, and that Vanek and MSL will add some scoring.
Also I don't tink it is questionable that the flyers are better now then the start of the season. Like I said I feel Toronto is stronger club then them though due to goaltending, but I think they should get some mention for "top three" status.

I pushed Jon Rosen for an answer on the Brown benching; however, this is the best he could come up with...I actually thought there might be something more to the "that line is tired" explanation from Sutter but I really didn't get it from Rosen:

Oh well. It will be interesting to see the number of minutes Brown gets against Anaheim. I doubt if Brown has been scratched since he's been a captain, and it may be too harsh to do it now during a stretch run, but maybe it would be the best tonic to get him off the schnide.

There were a few plays in the first period where Brown made some really strange decisions that led to turnovers, and on top of that didn't really look interested in backchecking. I remember thinking that he's just asking to get benched. The whole third line looked out of sorts and was a liability, and I'm glad Sutter let them know it.

When I read Sutter's comments about them being tired I took it at face value, but after watching the video of the interview, I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Thought it was kind of funny in a Darryl Sutter sort of way.

Just one of those nights. Kopi can't finish, Reimer and Bernier make Sportscenter, and Quick has his first less-than-superhuman game since before the break. Sucks that it is vs TO and now we have to deal with smugness (I'm leaving Staples right now and you'd think that was a SC game win), but it is what it is.

Commence puking.

Yea but the Leaf fans were easy to **** up I just remind them they have not won anything since the league expanded to be more than a six team league.

Yes, Jim was nitpicking for am excuse, the tip, if there was even one, had little to no effect on the trajectory of the shot.

A later replay showed a clear change in the spin on the shot. The puck basically stopped spinning after it hit Kopitar's stick. From the side it might not seem like a major change in trajectory, but the deflection changes more than just the trajectory.

I think those who have played some goalie will tell you that a little tip like that is not easy to adjust to. The shot trajectory is much straighter and predictable when the puck is spinning. Imagine trying to hit a knuckleball AND have it change velocity during the pitch.

That would explain a lot.

Would explain a lot for Quick, too; never seen him get beat glove side 3 times in one game, never mind Phaneuf's silly over-the-pad-under-the-glove backhand and that may-have-been-tipped from the blueliner or the shortside not-quite-top-shelf. It's not like those were snipes. Uncharacteristic "meh" game from Quick.

But I think it's telling that the Leafs played one of their best games and we played probably our sloppiest since the break yet were still in it till the bitter end. Was just a matter of great leafs goaltending vs. shaky on our end, burying chances vs. not, not sucking on special teams (i.e. went from nearly scoring on the PP to giving up a shorty to kill the game). It is what it is, not gonna win em all, but i didn't see anything alarming in this game that wasn't a momentary mental lapse.

Kopi buries that first opportunity where he got stoned by Bernier and we easily win that game. Gotta finish our opportunities. Agreed with most that Quick played like a normal goaltender tonight, not a good game from him.

I like when the Kings play the Leafs. They are a lot more fun to watch than games against Nashville or the Devilzzzzzzzz.

Regardless of the velocity, the most important aspect is the trajectory never changed, and his positioning would lead to a goal with or without the tip, the velocity wouldn't make him in better position.
