Hope its against the Montreal Canadians or another team up from the North.

I'm thinking the Ducks is a bad idea also. I'm assuming this game will be a Western Conference matchup, so I'm thinking bring down the Jets. It will annoy the hockey historians to no end, but allow them to use the original NHL Jets logo and wear those jerseys. Let them have their Legends team include Jets I players etc.

I'd also say for the shear cost of putting this together, the Kings should have their whole system play there. Have the Reign play there and bring the Monarchs out for a game against Abbotsford. Also have a UCLA/USC game there. If they make the Day one festivities cheap enough, I have a feeling you'd get tons of students out to see the games. Might get a bit of the college football atmosphere going.

The game also needs to be late afternoon. I have only been to LA once, but was out at Dodger Stadium in the late afternoon and the view of downtown is picturesque from the parking lot. If they could position the rink so this would show up, it would be fantastic for TV.

Or what about something that calls back to the LA Sharks (LA Aces) from the WHA:
WHA-LAS.bmp

The thing with the Sharks is twofold, a) the NHL seems very against acknowledging the WHA (check the history of the Oilers and you'll see they started in 1979, not 1972. It isn't the ABA/NBA or AFL/NFL style merger) and b) the Sharks existed during the Kings existence. I was thinking you give a nod to LA's previous hockey history.

You could even go farther back and dust off LA Millionaires or LA Angels jerseys from the California Hockey League in the 30s.

If it is LA/Anaheim, you could also go silly and wear Roller Hockey International jerseys:

Oh go ****ing **** yourself NHL. I'm leaving the god damned state before the next season starts. Of course. Well... I think it might be worth it to fly to LA to go to this, regardless of where I'm living at. Went to the Heritage Classic in Calgary so I know how to buy tickets to an outdoor game now and this one won't be miserable. The Heritage classic was like -43C with wind chill. Oh and every ATM in McMahon stadium was out of cash. Oh and the concession stands don't take credit or ATM. So when I wanted a hot chocolate and more hand/feet warmers, I COULDN'T GET THEM

It would have been nice to do it this year on the 20th anniversary of the 93 finals, but then if they went with those jerseys it wouldn't be much different from what either team wears now.

I don't think the NHL bases the matchups on jerseys.

I liked shootmasters idea of playing the Jets, and I would even say the Vancouver Canucks would be ideal as well. They would bring a lot of fans down here to pack the stadium. It's more interesting than a just regional rivalry that nobody outside of Socal cares about, which makes the event smaller.

You can't see downtown from anywhere inside the stadium

well, he mentioned positioning the rink so we could see downtown...

You are right, I meant from inside the stadium. I was only at Dodger Stadium once and it was in November, so I didn't stay in the stadium too long, just snuck inside the gate for a few pictures while I was at the team store. I thought you could see it off the 1st base side, but I guess I am wrong.

A sellout will not be a problem regardless of who the opponent is. It's a national TV audience that the NHL and NBC will be more concerned about.

Then if that's the case, you can bet that it'll be bumped for a Flyers-Pens game that will be shown nationally, and the our game will just be shown in the LA market.

any idea on the dates of this game?
Olympics are Feb 7-23 (I think) and the last few Hockey days in America were between those dates.

I really hope it's not against the ducks.

Hoping for a Canadian team like the habs or nucks. Canadian tram = more tourist $ to our broke state ;)

Sweet I'll be there. They better have a Legends game too and Gretzky better play. I never did get to see him play live and this is probably the last chance.

I wonder if the Kings would go super retro for their jerseys? What about a faux throwback like Calgary did and wear Los Angeles Blades (of the WHL, not RHI) mockups? I realize they will look exactly like a Dallas Stars jersey, but it would be something unique that fans might buy instead of dusting off something that fans might actually own. Plus it would be a way of honouring hockey's "Jackie Robinson" since Willie O'Ree played for the Blades (albeit after breaking the colour barrier in the NHL).

Another option would be to go completely off the wall and wear Dodgers inspired uniforms.

For the Ducks, they could also go faux retro and wear Anaheim Flyers jerseys from the Pacific Southwest Hockey League of the 70s. I can't seem to find pictures of their jersey or logo.

I'm not sure there's enough here to warrant them going with this jersey, but I thought I would mock it up anyway.

I will be coming out for this no matter who we play, and bringing my then-12 year old son with me. What's missing a few days of school compared to the chance to see the Kings at Dodger Stadium? I do hope it's the Ducks and I hope Bob Janecyk gets the start in the Legends Game :)
