It's gonna be verse the Ducks!

That is a very odd rumor, and I won't be surprised at all if that winds up being incorrect. It would be a bigger national draw to have West Coast / East Coast (e.g. Kings/Rangers). NBC will obviously televise the game nationally. They're really going to green-light a Kings/Ducks national TV match-up? I seriously doubt it.

Novelty of the situation overrides need for usual suspects. This is a SoCal event...should get the Ducks fanbase involved as well...needs to be sell out to avoid embarrassment.

A sellout will not be a problem regardless of who the opponent is. It's a national TV audience that the NHL and NBC will be more concerned about.

I think the novelty is strong enough to not need Detroit or Chicago in there. Chicago would be the obvious choice since they are in the West and a big draw but I think it would be kind of bush to exclude the Ducks.

League wants to grow the sport in "non-traditional" markets...they should give both LA and OC reason to go. The usual suspects get the Winter Classic and the rumor is an outdoor game in NY as well? Eff them...a game being played outdoors in LA should be between the two teams that play in SoCal.

I want ducks vs kings. Let's make this rivalry legit. I don't want the stupid hawks.

So the Winter Classic will remain a New Years Day event, there will be a Heritage Classic in Canada, likely Vancouver, and two outdoor games, one in LA, will celebrate hockey day in America. I like it!

I have to agree. Outside of the first few minutes, who outside of the west coast is really gonna care enough to watch it?

While I think the game will be awesome and I'll be there for sure, I'm a little wary about the proliferation of outdoor games. 4 in one year? One of the cool things about the Winter Classic is the uniqueness of it and the fact that it is on New Year's Day and has taken over that day from college football to a certain extent. If they start having these games every weekend, they will lose their luster in a hurry.

Isn't rain the worst thing that can happen for playing an outdoor game? Our weather in January typically there is a high probability it could rain and rain hard. Seems like a larger weather gamble then what we typically see with outdoor games.

It's not 100 percent done but looks like SoCal outdoor game would be Jan 25 at Dodger Stadium, Kings vs Ducks

I'm excited for jerseys. If the Kings simply wear the current throwback purple, I hope this means it will be available for sale.

I'm wondering if the Ducks will come up with some faux vintage sweater like Calgary's McD's sweater, although I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings wore their Gretzky-era jerseys and the Ducks wore their originals as long as there aren't any Disney-related problems to using the sweater.

As long as it's not humid or rainy, the quality of the the ice will be a non issue.

The temperature of the ice surface can be controlled rather easily.

An extremely cold weather environment is actually more problematic than a mild climate.

Sweet I'll be there. They better have a Legends game too and Gretzky better play. I never did get to see him play live and this is probably the last chance.

I wonder if the Kings would go super retro for their jerseys? What about a faux throwback like Calgary did and wear Los Angeles Blades (of the WHL, not RHI) mockups? I realize they will look exactly like a Dallas Stars jersey, but it would be something unique that fans might buy instead of dusting off something that fans might actually own. Plus it would be a way of honouring hockey's "Jackie Robinson" since Willie O'Ree played for the Blades (albeit after breaking the colour barrier in the NHL).

Another option would be to go completely off the wall and wear Dodgers inspired uniforms.

For the Ducks, they could also go faux retro and wear Anaheim Flyers jerseys from the Pacific Southwest Hockey League of the 70s. I can't seem to find pictures of their jersey or logo.

I think they should call this The Grudge Match, maybe have it a freeway series game but obviously somewhere different every year. Keep it a bit different then the winter classic.:badidea:

Or what about something that calls back to the LA Sharks (LA Aces) from the WHA:
