The team is just too cocky right now. They're been reading their press clippings and want to Harlem Globetrotter every team out there. They were playing game 5 hockey while the Sharks were playing playoff hockey. They can't keep playing game 5 hockey all season. They have to tighten up and stop trying to Harlem Globetrotter every team. And despite him redeeming himself in the 3rd period somewhat Igor has been playing slightly above average hockey at best.
Like you said it's only game 5 and they are 3-1-1. Getting bent out of shape over 1 bad game, actually 1 bad period, make for long season.

I think it was a bad game. If you were to rank the 15 periods played so far I'd rank periods 1 and 2 of this game close to 15. The only periods outside of this game that were worse was the 1st and 3rd periods of the Jets game.

Games like this are when you wish you had a coach who had an actual command of the room. They were sloppy on Monday. They followed that up by losing to one of the worst teams in the league. But don't worry, I'm sure he'll have them running suicides. That'll teach them.

Yeah that's because the Rangers have won most of the periods they have played this year. The Rangers outchanced and outshot the Sharks in both the 1st and 2nd and had a 22-9 shots advantage after 2. Gallant said it himself that he thought the first 2 periods were fine. The 3rd period was the worst of the year so far by a country mile. Also does it really matter if they had a bad game in game 5 of the season against a team that was desperate for a win? The best team in hockey loses 25 games a year.

my conspiracy theory as to why they sucked yesterday. Bunch of the guys including Panarin were bummed.

Dryden Hunt getting waived so Kravtsov can stay on the roster.
Yeah, its a hot take but from what Ive seen so far I would rather have Hunt than Kravtsov at this point. Krav and his 185 frame arent ready for this league. I have no idea how they are going to navigate this situation at this point

Well i guess I'm glad i fell asleep at the beginning of the 3rd..
So they were actually worse??
Yikes
What i noticed is this team cant handle pressure. Sharks pressure anyone who has the puck. Our guys couldnt make the passes needed under the pressure.
This must be addressed
I dont take sports too seriously anymore(in RS, in PS im a monster)
so its just one loss and perhaps a wake up call that's needed
Just sux it had to be against Q.

Gallant kept Panarin and Trocheck on the ice in OT. He had Fox with them and then put Trouba out there. Take all of them off. Put Zibanejad and Kreider out there. Panarin and Trocheck couldn't get out of their zone.

Chytil has arrived.
Yeah, I will say that is one of Gallant's flaws. You know Torts would've had Chytil out there starting OT.

Yes, Lafreniere over Trochek would have solved everything. Their PK was literally perfect coming into this game but don't let a good narrative go to waste.
The power play did amazing against a rebuilding Ducks team. It was 3-11 going into the Ducks game. It was 0-5 against a rebuilding Sharks team. That's inconsistent. And often PP1 is on the full 2 mins or damn near close to it.

Sporadic 14 and 15 minutes is not enough ice time. Having extended times between shifts is bad. Running the same guys out there when they're not getting it done is bad. It doesn't matter that they're among the team lead in 5v5 ice time. It would matter if this were a vacuum and you could say each game has a specific amount of special teams play, but as we saw a period could have 3 to 4 penalties, that's 6 to 8 minutes of ice time guaranteed they won't be on the ice. They can go like 7 minutes between shifts. That's brutal.

What isn't inconsistent is that every time Laf and Kakko are the ones that are the most noticeable on the ice, the team wins. When they are lost on the bench the team doesn't play well.

As I keep saying, until they're the ones being leaned on this team isn't winning a Cup.

Trocheck and his 22:20 minutes of ice time didn't get it done. 22:22 minutes for Trocheck!? For reference last night Connor McDavid had 22:00 in the Oilers game. Trocheck should be getting the same or more minutes as the best hockey player on the planet? Insanity.

Laf and Kakko should be in the 18 minute range every game. being leaned on in all situations.

This was typical Rangers playing down to the level of their opponents. You can set your watch to it.

Seen it the past 40+ years of watching this team.
I actually texted m buddy before the game and said "Let's see... NYR4-1... SJS 0-5... Panarin & Zbad on a tear... kids starting to play well... I'm saying NYR OT loss after they play down to the Sharks"

Like the sun rising everyday... predictable

Because Trocheck isn't a play driver and he's being cast as one. It's Looney Toons. He's a complimentary player that sometimes does something wow-y like drive the net and then turns into Gauthier and forgets how to shoot.

In a situation like regular season OT with wide open ice the best play drivers should be on the ice. Panarin should have been out with Lafreniere or Kakko or Chytil or Zibanejad. Kreider and Trocheck are not the ones to put out there in that situation. I love Kreider but he's not going to dictate the pace of a game.

You can make similar arguments about Panarin but people act like he's a bum, Fox is slow as molasses and plays lazy. He looked pretty shit last season too IMO.

Yes I am partially mad at him because I allowed the HFNYR hivemind to brainwash me into taking him over Panarin with my 1st rounder in fantasy
This is a master class on how to have people discount everything you write from this point forward.

Well he was one of the few who actually drove to the net or set up in front of the net. Everyone was else was allergic.
Separate point- there were so many times last night they could have given the puck back to the point for a clear shot or at least create some space, and they continued to cycle down low and lose possession.

That 3rd period will be talked about on here 5 years from now. It's a memorable abomination.

Crypto and his wife are hopefully all good. Jovo is probably knee deep in coconut lotion getting ready for the probable return of Vagili.

Saturdays practice should be a no puck affair with buckets in every corner, and Dramamine in every water bottle.

Seemed like they took the Sharks very lightly.

Early struggles aside, while they are a bad team, they play hard.

Rangers expected them to roll over.

A powerplay that converts 3/11 would've been tied for being the best powerplay in the league last year. It would've been tied for 4th among team seasons over the last 5 years. You're not making the point you think you're making.

Yes because you can go years without losing a game like this. Last time they lost a game like this was 07-08 to the 0-6 Thrashers. You can't just throw away points in a league like this.
