i will build a Gerard Gallant statue on my front lawn if he gives the kid line top 6 minutes.
Once, just once would I like to see our coach do SOMETHING over the top. First 10-15 minutes, evaluate which of the top 2lines are NOT getting it done, and then pull the plug.
Raise the kid line UP, replacing and embarassing them the loser line. Hopefully this is not needed, but.......
This needs to be done, if need be. Send a severe message.

So everyone complained that we had two fourth lines. Now we have what could be an exciting 3rd line and no one is happy.
I'm happy. These kids were growing "together". Better days were starting to come. There was no unnecessary deferring to vets.
They will rely on one another, and 2 of the 3 are already almost there.

But Chytil played just 10:27 of even-strength time while Zibanejad was on for 15:42 and Trocheck for 14:43. Discounting the Oct. 23 match against Columbus, in which Chytil was forced out with a suspected concussion after just 11 seconds on the ice, he is averaging 13:07 per game at even-strength, while Trocheck is at 15:29 and Zibanejad 14:45.

More mystifying than the total ice time Tuesday is that Chytil played just 3:36 of even-strength ice in the third period as the Rangers were blowing a 3-1 lead while Zibanejad was on for 7:10 and Trocheck for 6:47. Chytil was not on the ice after the Blueshirts pulled Igor Shesterkin for the attacker with 2:06 remaining.

Chytil, who has four points (three goals and one assist, all at even strength) in eight games, leads the team with 2.0 goals per 60:00 at five-on-five, with Panarin next at 1.12. Chtyil also leads the club with 2.67 points per 60:00 at five-on-five, with Panarin next at 2.25.

this is the fear

Sure why not, nothing else has worked. I love Jimbone but the fact he's on the top line makes me LOL. Our RW depth is so bad that he has to play on the 1st line, it's sad.

Optimistic take - maybe Gallant is hoping the kid line recreates their magic. If they’re firing and the team needs a goal, cut into the weaker of the 2 vet lines ice time. Put a fire under the ass of the vets to pick it up and not get shown up by the young players.

(Do I believe this will happen? Hell no but it’s the optimistic take)
I wish this would happen. IMO it's the only way the kids ever take the next step. There's only so long you can "wait your turn" before you don't get a turn.

If they're outplaying the vets, let them outplay the vets.

Be nice of Gallant put the kids out to start the game. Let them show the vets the energy that's needed. You don't think those three would come out flying if they saw their names up top?

Gallant is more likely to fly to Anaheim mid game and get an injured Ryan Strome more minutes than that happening

See now I'm annoyed. This team couldn't get through one stretch of below average goaltending without defaulting back to shit that's less effective, but they feel safe with it because their goalie happened to put up a .950 when they did it last year.

Gallant is panicking. They dominated a game against a good team last game and Gallant wouldn't have it.

so quinn was the problem

then gallant was the guy who knew how to coach in the nhl and fixed everything

now gallant doesn't know anything and needs to go

is there any coach who knows hockey like commenters on hfboards?

i dont love everything about gallant and there's things about the way the team plays as well as the way he manages the x's n o's vs other coaches i don't think are tops of the league. but the guy also took the team to the ecf, anyone thats played for him would run through a wall for him, and the season is 14 games in. he knows a thing or two about hockey and coaching in the nhl. people need to calm down and stop looking for a finger to point as soon as we hit a rough patch or he doesn't use the lines they want or someone isn't producing to their expectations because they know with certainty how to change that. everyone just wants to complain. lets see how things play out maybe

So because we struck out on 2 coaches that means we shouldn’t keep trying to find the right one? It’s a rough patch yes but Gallant sucked last year too even when we were winning. He sucked in the playoffs, and hey sucks now.

I was kidding. As for your suggestion, 99% of the time the right time to change on the PP isn't a choice, it's dictated by the action.
Sometimes dictated by action but I have seen some our guys slowing down when they stay out a full 2 minutes. This was not always the norm. The first unit does a good job but id rather have a good practiced second unit then a fatigued first unit.

how did we strike out on gallant? year one eastern conference final with a young team that had almost no playoff experience going in and we're 15 games into year 2. sure it hasn't been the perfect start but right there in the thick of things...a 5-6 game win streak and we're prob looking down at almost everyone. there's no rational assessment that can be made concluding gallant isn't the right guy.

will it play out a different voice is needed to take this team over the top? possibly. but making that case at this point is completely unreasonable. there's a significantly stronger, results driven, case that says he is the right guy right now.

anyone who thinks he can't coach right now would find a reason to say the same about any coach after a year and 15 games. every single coach is going to make lineup decisions or deploy systems any given fan doesn't agree with, every single one. if you're looking for it you'll find a reason to complain about anyone. sometimes a given fan will be proven right, more times than not they'll be proven wrong and/or have no idea about so much of what goes into why any given decision is made. jon cooper, jim montgomery, quenneville, berube, scotty gd bowman, could turn up behind the bench and people would be in hysterics after 40 games claiming they have no idea what they're doing because we lost 3 out of 4. by any observable measure or analytical breakdown this team is far better than last years and that will find its level. the best decision makers are the best because they don't make reactive decisions, logically and rationally looking at where we are there's just no argument to be made for a coaching change. change for the sake of change is how you become a doormat

Im almost certain that your full of shit lol. Those lines will not be rolled evenly. The 4th line will get tons of minutes while the 3rd line will not see the ice in the 3rd. Plus we are back to putting player who dont belong in the top 6 in the top 6.. IE Kravy and vesey..

I like Gallant i do but he always reverts back to his old ways and this team isnt going to get over the hump in the playoffs with him. He has a terrible system defensively and lets his vets do whatever they want offensively. Its not a good combo.

Im deeply disappointed with the rangers and this coaching staff

didn’t happen!
