A thing nobody seems to have noted about the rags/Jack story that (if true) is VERY disturbing: The idea that Adams tried to be cute by giving an offer he knew they would turn down. Any reasonably smart person would've responded to their GM by saying "We have absolutely no interest whatsoever in trading Jack, what else would you like to discuss?". Instead he did something that basically poured gasoline on a fire and emboldened the vile media parasites (and scuzzy lowlife fans of other teams) to eagerly celebrate the thought of our team's bloated desiccated corpse being feasted on by vultures. His initial response to the story when it broke was very disappointing as well. I really am starting to think he is going to be a Brodie Van Wagen level disaster.

You're turning into Mike Harrington, that's not good lol
Column: Kevyn Adams needs to make it clear that Jack Eichel is untouchable
"I have zero concern on Jack wanting to be here," he said. "I've had great conversations with him and his representatives. I'm not really sure where that's come from. ... There's no intention of moving Jack Eichel. I can make that very clear.
"What I said on 'Instigators' was people call every day, you listen. People bring players' names up and ask but I have no interest, no reason as I sit here today moving forward that you'd want to do something like that. So I'm hoping I'm clarifying it for you. That to me is an easy question and we have no intention of doing that."

I guess the issue for me is his wording of "no intention". It leaves it open ended. If you are not going to trade him, say "he is not available" or "We will not be trading Jack Eichel". He deserves questioning if he is going to continue to use "no intention", IMO.

You're way overthinking the word choice, IMO.

You're way underthinking the word choice, IMO. Haha.

I don't really care to be honest. But if Kevyn Adams is tired of being asked about the rumors he needs to choose different words. Buffaloed even quoted him saying "So I'm hoping I'm clarifying it for you. That to me is an easy question and we have no intention of doing that." In fact he is not making it clear as "no intention" means its still a possibility it happens. If he wants it to be clear say "I am not trading Jack Eichel". Executives are (or at least should be) careful with their wording. He knows what he is saying and what he is saying is it could happen. He's not intending for it to happen, but its possible. Or he is just careless with his word choices.

In the NHL? 3C options we’ve thrown out like Wennberg and Turris. 3RW options like Ryan and Pitlick. 4C options like Grant. Grit options like Maroon. All were cheap. But no, let’s get Reider who has no skill to move up in a lineup.
How can you type all this as if you know Adams didn't try to sign any of them? As if Maroon would have come here over re-signing in Tampa.

Doesn’t matter. I want Cozens, Mitts, and Thompson on this team in one instance. They earn it. The way it’s going, they’re gifted it. Or we’re bringing in a bunch of PTO guys come training camp.

Far less than an average of two players per team have been signed so far according to the TSN tracker. The Sabres signed one outside UFA as well as re-signing Girgensons at the nth hour. The point is it's way too early to complain unless there is some knowledge out there that Adams isn't going after anyone.

Oh, they resigned a 4th liner, and signed another 4th liner. And a 7D. Everyone else is playing 3D chess while Adams is playing Uno. Allow me to pre-order the 2021 Cup champs t-shirt and hat package.

Every other team. Are you really this dense? Yes I know the player has to sign a contract. But we haven’t fixed shit. Depth is third liners playing on your fourth line. Top 4 D playing in your bottom pair. Depth is not 13th forwards playing 3rd liners or 7,8D playing top 6.
Listen slugger, fewer than 50 players around the entire league have been signed. Hardly any of them are of consequence. Only a few would I have wanted for the Sabres. Buffalo is not an attractive destination right now. Name three teams that substantially fixed their rosters. Free agency has barely begun, so tone down the attitude. Enjoy some calming chamomile tea or something.

Counting trades and FA: Sharks. Sens. Habs. Jets. Panthers. Pens. Flames. Canucks have stayed equal (I assume Toffoli goes back). Caps have stayed equal (slight downgrade in goal).

Really? The Canadians fixed their roster? Move over, Tampa Bay. The Canucks downgraded in net and are losing good players as it stands. How can you assume Toffoli is going back in this conversation? Every indication is that they aren't pursuing him right now but are pursuing Tanev. You may as well assume the Sabres sign Toffoli. The Flames upgraded in net (on a not-so-great deal), but that doesn't fix their roster. Stastny was a good move for the Jets but you can't say they fixed their roster when they're still shopping Laine.

There's scarcely anything out there any more substantial than the Sabres trading for Staal and making three depth signings. That's because the off-season has started slowly, barely underway yet. I can't say I am anywhere near happy about the off-season yet, but it isn't time to start whining, either.

The Habs problems were skilled top 6 grit and a top 4 LHD and a backup goalie that could play up to 40 games. They added Anderson (lateral move imo) for Domi, fixed the top 4 with acquiring and signing Edmundson, and picked up Allen. How is that not improving?

The Canucks slightly downgraded in goal, but gives them the ability to have Demko play more and learn from an NHL champion. That’s an improvement.

We need to fix the secondary scoring depth. Not the “not enough 4th liners” depth.

Downgrading in goal is an "improvement"? i must really be dense as I do not understand that one. I didn't ask which teams improved, by the way. I asked which teams fixed their rosters. The Sabres improved by adding Staal yet obviously haven't fixed their roster, which is what you were on about.

How is it not an improvement? Their better goalie between Demko and Markstrom now gets more time to play, and if need be they still have a starter. And that guy won’t complain.

And yea, they fixed the 2C hole. What else? 2RW (or 2C if they could magically acquire Cirelli) is a hole. Cozens can eff off from that. Earn it, not get gifted it. An entire third line still needs to be acquired. Ryan-Wennberg-Kahun/Tage sounds like that problem gets fixed (and look, outside of Kahun we know that line gets paid out 5M for next year).
