this whole f***ing organization is a problem.

I have posted this message so many times, I'm tired of typing. The Sabres will not win the Cup as long as he is the owner.

It's so weird that the Bills are, while not a model franchise, by all external indicators well run.

We need a Brandon Beane. Someone who can make a Billionaire feel like their voice is heard while keeping them an arm's length away from the day to day operations.

I also feel there is likely a big disconnect because the Bills are profitable, even if they aren't doing well. So the cash for staffing and facilities will be there. I don't think the Pegula's necessarily care about HOW profitable something is, but if they have to dip into their own pockets to prop it up, their care level changes a lot.

I think the one more recent example of this was Raccuia's recent firing (July), months after he secured the huge amount of $$ from the state of NY, it was because the cost of the stadium is starting to go well beyond the 1.4B initial estimate and the Pegula's will have to pay out of pocket. That seems to be what will incur the wrath of the Pegula's faster than anything, spending THEIR money.

But you aren't wrong when it comes to the Sabres. The Pegulas are the common thread here. It's a poorly run organization. The threadbare spending on the front office/coaching staff/support staff is alarming to say the least.

Until they start investing in the foundation of the team with a real operating structure and staff, the success simply isn't going to come.

it can’t just be front office spending that equates success though but I do get it

If it were just the money spent there just look at Toronto where there’s no shortage of spending but little success of getting past one round of playoffs

I’m suggesting it has to be something deeper than front office expenditures

I never thought Don was the guy to take them to the cup but at this point I sure lean towards a shakeup

So essentially the lipstick on a pig approach. Visit Wells Fargo Center in Philly to see what work has to be done to make KBC an acceptable NHL venue.

My niece went to concert at KBA not too long ago... she said her seat wasn't even bolted to the floor

A well built foundation doesn't guarantee a house won't have any issues.

But a poorly built foundation will guarantee issues.

If you don't have a well run front office, nearly all success you have will be fleeting. I think we saw last year where we had success but the front office lacked the ability to take a real self evaluation, identify issues, and fix them. And sure, there are other issues this year out of the front office control. Players post contract year, more injuries, just expected shooting regression, etc. But there is where having experience comes in the front office can say "oh this is how we handled this at my previous team", etc.

We certainly don't have to spend the most on our front office, nor do we need to have the most scouts to be successful. But we can't run on subsistence levels of support staff combined with inexperience front office wide, we are asking to repeat the problems other teams have already solved. And with a 13 year playoff drought this season, we simply can't afford to reinvent the wheel here. Lots of models on how to build a successful team. Fans shouldn't have to suffer through the learning process of a guy who has never been in any front office ever.

Four seasons in and Adams hasn't shown a grasp of the even the basics. From overpaying for bottom line players, inability to address coaching issues, handing out long term contracts before it was called for or necessary, or finding talent outside of the organization that resolves or fixes current on ice issues. Adams has shown he can sell off players and use those draft picks and stick to a budget. And that's about it.

We've got coaching issues, we've got GM issues. But that all flows back to Ownership being unwilling to step back from the team and let someone come in and structure the a traditional front office that will set them up to succeed.

Sabres change course, fire Botterill as GM

“We felt like we needed to be heard," co-owner Terry Pegula said during a video conference call. "I'm not going to sit here and dish on Jason Botterill, but we have a vision and we want to see our vision succeed.

"We were in detailed discussions with Jason, and how we felt we needed to move forward effectively, efficiently and economically running this franchise, we felt there were too many differences of opinion going into the future."

sought-to-maintain-lifestyle

"In the meetings, which were held shortly after the Bills reached the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, Kim told employees that budgets would be scrutinized and raises should not be expected aside from those who were contractually obligated to receive them, according to Tim Graham of The Athletic.

Graham included a copy of a slide that was part of Kim Pegula's presentation, which was entitled "Pegula Family Goals." The goals included win championships, sustainability, return on investment.

As part of the return on investment, Pegula stressed the importance of her family maintaining its lifestyle.

An anonymous Bills management source described the general feeling among the employees following Kim Pegula's declaration: "People were walking out of those meetings like they'd been punched in the gut. We just made the playoffs in the NFL, where it's impossible to lose money. We're firing on all cylinders. Now we have to pinch pennies? The morale after those meetings was lower than the day [longtime Bills owner] Ralph Wilson died." "

Let's rewind Kevyn Adams' actual timeline

“Kevyn Adams, who’d been an executive vice president of business operations, was hired as general manager and was tasked with firing the scouts and development coaches as his first duty. From figuring out how to rebuild the Sabres to acquiring new scouting heads, and searching for a new coaching staff for Rochester it was a long laundry list to complete for a guy who had never been a GM in the NHL.”

Every season Adams has overpaid UFAs who fail. This season isn't any different.

This team is going to have to go out and get players and make changes or we will be stuck at mediocre as Adams brings in fringe NHLers every year.

Gross. Just gross.

I guess KA hasn't learned the difference between "working hard" and "producing results".

You can run as fast as you can and work hard at it but if you're running in the wrong direction.....

And it's HIS job as GM to make sure everyone isn't just "working hard" but working the right way towards the desired result. And he's failed at that, miserably.

Getting through this tough stretch of losing is going to make them better people after they keep losing. I'm glad that they will collectively handle losing better than how they apparently handle it now.

Yeah, I am very bitter about that. Insulting to the fans and I've been a big backer of Adams.
Started with Pegula but then we hired an entire organization with zero experience. How could they have thought that would turn around major tanking/losing culture?
