Not really.

Kesler should be taken off the pk, not because hes some precious commodity but simply because he leaves himself vulnerable. His injury didn't come from some super human effort he made defensively...it came because he was way too far away blocking a shot.
This also isn't the first time hes blocked a shot like that either, same thing happened when he broke his hand blocking a shot.

How many of our other pkers hurt themselves blocking shots? Hansen/Burrows play as much as he does on the pk but they don't leave themselves vulnerable to those kinds of plays. Yes you can get hurt blocking close up as well but if you've played you know how dangerous it is blocking a shot from further away.

Not really much you can do about that though. Kesler is a huge part of the team's PK. There's no real way of easing him into that role, other than to just use him there. Unless timing in general (at 5 on 5) is something that would've helped. Unfortunate of course, but that's just the luck of the draw.

Two losses in a row + Injured Kesler = Season in the toilet!?
:help:

No, i'm sure if the canucks play .500 hockey the rest season there's still a good chance of finishing third in the west. What's the point though? Great another NW division banner for rogers arena. Why not try to get a top pick instead?

The team is filled with grinders, guys that can easily play pk. Kesler isn't significantly better than Burrows, Hansen, Lapierre or Higgins in that role. Throw in Raymond and even Weise and you can see how this team can easily survive without him in that role.

Time to go back to playing solid defence. Limit the high end scoring chances and clear rebounds.

I swear I'm not trying to troll, but I just don't think the canucks are a legit contender even with a 100% healthy, beast-mode Kesler. That's why I'm so supportive of the tank train.

In that case we'll just agree to disagree.

And waste a year of the Sedins?

I agree we can get by with those guys too, but Kesler's one of our best PK forwards no? Eventually he's going to have to play that role again; you just know it. Unless you're advocating that he be taken off the PK permanently.

I know he's struggled in his own end at evens but when he's on he's probably our best at that role, if not Burrows. Now, if that shot-blocking technique is dangerous and not just a result of him still getting back into form, then we need the coaches to recognize that and teach him to do it differently.

How many legit contenders would you say are in the league right now?

Was LA one last year at half way mark?

What a joke. Vancouver when 100% healthy and Kesler playing like 10-11 Kesler, is not only contender IMO they're the team to beat!

legit contenders? west: blackhawks. east: boston. Penguins depending on their goal tending. Blues depending on their goal tending. Also I think the ducks will fall off and the kings are definitely a playoff team that could peak at the right time again. Pretty standard opinions I think.

All we have to do is make the playoffs then anything can happen
I will panic then.
otherwise I will continue to watch games with pilsner and Doritoes and have a fine time doing so, win or lose.

if we wanted to tank we should've done it during the years when we actually had a ****** start to the season, not now when we basically have to lose 3 out of every 4 games for the rest of the year to come close to a good draft position

I don't know about that...

I'm just feeling pretty negative today. But we'll find out over the next month what we really have here. As of right now I see a first or at best second round exit. Things can change though. They just haven't been playing well for a long, long time now.

This. Let's just chill out, hope that the team is healthy once the playoffs start, and then whatever happens...happens.

Sigh I wish the Doctor would have at least done a scan before finding out he has been playing with a broken foot for 3 games...

Canucks medical staff strikes again.

So there are only two legit contenders?

So if they happen to be upset it should be pretty easy to roll to the Cup?

Get to the dance to give yourself a chance!

I think this team has been due for a major shake up. Lets be honest, we won't win the cup this year or the next with our current personnel.

Kesler is a flake and the Sedins arent enough to win it. AV continues to **** around with the goaltending and it should be SCHNEIDER every night playing. Why are we going back on trading Luongo this late into the game?

This team pisses me off sometime.

oh wait nevermind, sorry just being a typical canucks fan and panicing when we lose two in a row

STOP LISTENING TO TEAM 1040 ALL THEY DO IS MAKE PEOPLE PANIC

And this is the problem with the North American sports approach that the Cup = everything. The idea that everyone is an equal loser if they don't win the Cup, and therefore anything but near certainty is pointless, sucks all the fun out of being a fan. It shouldn't be better to tank the second you have an inkling your team may not beat astronomical odds.

In the rest of the world, just beating a rival, or qualifying for a tournament, or avoiding relegation is cause for celebration. There are many different things to cheer for. Only here are divisional titles mocked, failing to qualify for the final 4 of a 30-team league seen as "unacceptable", and draft picks preferred to victory in any capacity but winning the lottery that is the Cup.

There is clearly a problem with this system. 29 of 30 teams can't win the Cup, and 26 can't come even remotely close. You can't actually plan to beat those odds, you can only hope for luck. Should we all be miserable wretches then at the league's collective 97% failure rate? Or should we cheer for the best outcome we can, and recognize that there are different tiers of accomplishment?

Or we make the playoffs and get Kesler back just in time for the 1st round. We're, at worst, the third best team in the West. Anything can happen once the playoffs start. See last year.
