Caps cant afford and don't want to afford Luongo, plus Holtby is playing much better and just signed a 2 year extension. Not going to make the trade now if they had any interest it would have been 2 weeks ago, and there wasn't any.

I honestly think that Weiss is our only option. Fla's tending situation is ugly. They're starting to play better as far as scoring goes but they have to score 4-6 goals a game to win.

I have a feeling this will be Kesler's career from here on out. Too many injuries combined with his type of play he isn't going to be an effective player for too long.

Just make the playoffs at this point. I don't have much positivity as far as doing anything in the playoffs is concerned. Our lines don't look too bad without Kesler but we were playing within our division mainly without Kesler that's why we were winning.

Send Kesler to Detriot with Lu and bring in Datsyuk and ???

We were winning without Kesler because we were playing great team defense: outside of game 1 we had allowed 6 5v5 goals in 11 games. Having Kesler slotted back into the lineup is a boon long term, but it's been nothing but disruptive in the short term.

Hopefully we can get back to our pre-Kesler groove quickly and I still think that Volpatti being sent down augers an upcoming trade.

I remember we had a poll question back in the summer about whether we would see the old Kesler of the NASH series or if he was on the decline. I voted decline because of the very reasons you gave here. His style of game and injuries take a huge toll on the body. I would love nothing more then to be wrong and have it thrown back in my face but something tells me it's just going to be one unlucky situation after another for Kesler. His top game has come and gone. He reminds me so much of Mike Fisher who never really has been the same since injuries slowed him down in OTT.

Fracture that x-ray done twice couldn't even find? Sounds super serious:sarcasm:

Have you ever tried to play as a call up in a beer league when you haven't played in months, but the other guys are in mid season form? You put yourself in situations where you're reaching or over exerting yourself to stay with the play.

Now these are professional athletes, the level they play it is much higher, so for someone to come in be expected to play the toughest minutes on a team, it couldn't have helped the situation.

But it doesn't matter, apparently it's from a shot block and thats a different issue not related to easing him back in because of injury.

Yeah, this. This injury is unrelated to anything really, but I still don't get why they couldn't shelter him a bit instead of throwing him into the deep end right off the bat.

This sort of thing is why i've been harping on about the lack of center depth on this team.

A guy like Vermette/Brassard are the sort of players who could play in the #3 hole at Center behind Kesler...but slide up fairly comfortably if/when Kesler goes down. Having extra quality centers is huge for versatility, and for coping with this sort of injury. Especially when Kesler is starting to rack up the injuries (even if this one was a fluke).

Not understanding why so many are writing Kesler off as an expendable piece. A second line Selke winner that's capable of picking up points (granted: when healthy) is a rare commodity these days when teams are fighting for depth down the middle. His shoulder injury was unfortunate and it was great when he got back, but for those that are saying "of course he broke his foot" are pretty foolish. It could have happened to anyone that plays an aggressive defensive game and it truly is unfortunate and inopportune that he broke it so soon after returning to the line up. If you want to shelter Kesler and play him as an offensive center only, he would be without much use on this team as we already have an offensively minded first line center and we need a skilled center that can play a well rounded game on both ends of the ice. Basically, if you'd advocate Kesler not playing hard defensively, you're neutering his role as a second line two-way center. For those that advocate just moving Kesler because he gets injured are basically saying that we want a center that doesn't play quite as hard at both ends of the ice and I'd say that we have enough of those. I'd also like to see a center that can take whatever shot broke Keslers foot and walkaway unscathed. Do we shop Kesler for some sort of Wolverine center with metal bones and the ability to mend themselves in a day or do we accept the fact that Kesler's had a rough go in the past season or two, recognize he's a critical piece that can take the team on his back, play defensively, and not throw him under the bus when he gets injured playing in the same style that we were all cheering for when he nearly single handedly served us up Nashville on a plate a few years ago. You can't have your Kesler and vilify him too, Vancouver.

Really good post.

Right hansen is danish, got confused since he played in the finnish elite league during the lockout. So is jensen too. Well that was ignorant, never mind.

He's playing in the Swedish elite league ;)

I hope they don't split up Sedin's and Burrows. Never understood the love affair with Kassian on that line. That being said Kassian needs to be off the 4th line if we want him to develop offensively. He's not ready to make the 4th a threat singe handedly.

Considering the Burrows experiment I wouldn't be surprised to see Hansen tried out at centre however for the time being I'd try:

Sedins Burrows
Raymond Schroeder Booth
Hansen Lapierre Kassian**
Weise Ebbett Higgins

or alternatively

Sedins Burrows
Hansen Schroeder Booth*
Raymond Lapierre Kassian**
Weise Ebbett Higgins

*Only way I'd be okay with Raymond and Schroeder split up
** Lapierre could be switched with Higgins and then moved to centre over Ebbett.

Not really.

Kesler should be taken off the pk, not because hes some precious commodity but simply because he leaves himself vulnerable. His injury didn't come from some super human effort he made defensively...it came because he was way too far away blocking a shot. This also isn't the first time hes blocked a shot like that either, same thing happened when he broke his hand blocking a shot.

How many of our other pkers hurt themselves blocking shots? Hansen/Burrows play as much as he does on the pk but they don't leave themselves vulnerable to those kinds of plays. Yes you can get hurt blocking close up as well but if you've played you know how dangerous it is blocking a shot from further away.

The problem is that even if we tried to tank, we couldn't with the division we're in.

Edmonton are the tank champs and it looks like the rest of the NW is right on their tales.
We're winning the NW whether we like it or not. :(
