I firmly believe it is important to ice an NHL-worthy lineup. You can disagree with me on that but it doesn't mean I'm full of shit. I would see Ottawa and Buffalo and Arizona sign all manners of veteran players just to ice a decent enough lineup. I'm surprised the Habs have this many holes at this stage with so little cap space -- is all.

They have two months to plug holes , discard contracts. The team will be different come opening day.

The Byron contract is one of the least concerning. He’s UFA at the end of the season, so you either leave him on LTIR if he’s not heathy, or he plays and they trade him for whatever they can get at the trade deadline. He’s not coming back in 2023-24, that’s a given.
