yeah ok, all because we lost the finals, it means just blow everything that worked and go a different direction, how does it feel being here? to you im fine, let's do that again and be stuck again because i hate having formers flyers in the front office even though it got us to the finals twice and in playoff contention for over a decade.
but to you i would be stuck in the lottery over a decade hiring more bad fo people than hiring great hockey people that arent former flyers.
Wait, WHAT?There's no way I beat @Magua to this, but I'm doing it anyway.
There's an aphorism in computer science that goes, "Garbage in, garbage out." The Flyers put Billy King in and things went predictably.
Is there an organization in all of hockey that is as confident in their incompetence particularly over the past decade than the Philadelphia Flounders?I'm not even sure what level of stupidity is required to go the " we need internals!" Route.
We've been doing that for multiple decades and it hasn't worked. Let go of your nostalgia and embrace the idea that you dont have to be some sloppy cult hero who played a few games for a team to be their executive. The ideology is as dated as the hockey you'd prefer to watch.

Yeah they did that

Nah, probably more Jones.Does this mean we'll be getting MORE Hartnell on broadcasts??
Ugh. Make it stop.
This is what they’re going to do. It’s not going to work because the team is terrible and the fanbase at large hates everything about the organization.
Build a winner and that’s all that matters.
Nah, probably more Jones.
They’ll want him front and center to “Tell The Story” and they’ll play it off as some new wave idea of integrating the front office with the fans. First of it’s kind and all that.
So it's agreed. Tortorella is running everything.Titles mean nothing, see how many companies have numerous Vice Presidents who are glorified middle managers.
As I pointed out, Colorado did the exact same thing with Sakic, gave him total control after two years as an advisor, first as assistant President then as GM. The GM his first year had no authority over personnel. Titles don't matter, only authority. And that is granted by the "boss," in this case Hilferty.
Why have a President of Ops? I think Jones is a placeholder, keeping the seat warm if things don't work out with Briere/Torts, Hilferty might bring in a real President and give him the authority to hire a GM and HC. But that won't happen for 3 more years.
In the end it doesn't matter, you can hire a President who looks good on paper but screws up everything (like half the franchises in the NHL), or maybe Briere is the real thing and after he rebuilds the Flyers, moves up to President and hires a GM who is basically his lackey.
In either case, you usually don't know for a few years (occassionally someone implodes their first year, like the GM who followed Fletcher in Minn, but that's rare).

I hope you're well. Remember to be like TomThere's no way I beat @Magua to this, but I'm doing it anyway.

If they're already decided on their long-term strategy, and Briere is going to be GM, what exactly would a President of Ops do? Reverse what's already been decided?
This is a nothing burger, b/c the President is a nothing job right now.
The people bitching are the ones who wanted a new President to demote Briere and fire Torts.
Of course, the probability of that happening was zero.

I don't get the seeming sudden fascination with the President role.
The GM has always been the guy in charge. That was Clarke. That was Hextall. That was Chuck. Now it's Briere.
When Hextall got appointed GM, Holmgren got named President for a while. It was a token. He had no power. He wasn't running the team.
What we have now are fans basically clamoring for a new GM. That's what this is about. You don't like Briere and Torts.
Well, Briere and Torts are running the team.
And frankly, I think Jones is perfect for not overstepping into personnel, but also being a sounding board everyone respects.

What better way for him to control the narrative? But he won't still be doing games, will he?
