Does feel like a joke. I'll at least give Briere a fair shot. Hey, y'all were wrong about Hakstol - maybe you'll be wrong here. :)

I do enjoy reading the "I'm done" posts in these threads.

I'll reply, since I woke up at 2 AM.

They weren't hiring a de facto GM. That's what a lot of posters wanted, but it's not what the Flyers wanted. They trust Briere and Torts.

So, if you aren't hiring a de facto GM, that removes a lot of names. People like Shero, Treliving, etc. who have had personnel control and of course crave it again. Or Mellanby, who wants to be a GM.

If you aren't hiring for personnel control, who are you hiring? Well, someone who won't try to bully Briere and Torts, for one, and someone who is likable and has a ton of leaguewide connections. That's Keith Jones. Everyone in the NHL knows Keith Jones. Everyone likes Keith Jones. He's watched the Flyers closely, and the NHL closely, for almost two decades. He'll give his opinion without being a dictator. People think he's a jester, like Coatesy. He's not. This is a guy who acted as his own agent, and though he's known for his sense of humor, he's sharp. Some discredit him for liking Ristolainen, but he liked Montour, too.

I think the Flyers did well here finding a smart voice who won't trample over personnel but will provide good input while also being a face of the team.

Literally nobody wanted that. Your defenses require making up lies about what people say here, which is the strongest indicator of all that this team is indefensible. Nothing they do can be defended on its own merit, so here comes the strawmen to argue against claims nobody has ever made and distract from what's actually happening. There certainly hasnt been a single positive result anywhere to point to.

I think the disconnect is that you are looking at this from the Flyers perspective and how they wanted to approach it, which you are fine with but most others are not (at least on here). Everyone else is looking at this approach and are not the least bit enamored by any of this. Briere, Torts and Jones as the brain trust going forward does not instill much confidence. We will see how it plays out, but this group definitely does not get the benefit of the doubt from me. Hope I'm wrong.

Even ignoring Jones, the brain trust of Briere and Tortorella? A guy who doesn't know what he's doing and a guy who admitted he doesn't understand the game anymore and doesn't want to try.

It can't succeed.

I'm not disagreeing with you. But I think most posters are looking at it from what they want, instead of Hilferty's perspective.

Hilerty's perspective is Torts and Briere are in charge.

I agree with Hilferty. I don't want Doug Wilson or Scott Mellanby as the de facto GM. I want Torts and Briere making decisions.

Oh no I'm looking at it from his perspective too. He's extremely wrong and he's built the thing in a way that looks like he admires how Dan Snyder runs his team

put it this way, would you rather hire outside people that are bad at their jobs, wont get along, wont listen to anyone like we had with hextall and fletch or have people that are will get along, understand what it takes to win in today's nhl?

because like everything else just because you hire assistants from great teams like we did with hextall, it doesnt mean we will win a cup, they probably have their own ways of doing things.

Here's an idea, hire outside people who are competent. How about that?

Self fellating. Entitlement. Stolen valor. Misplaced sense of self righteousness.
A new era. A whole new low.

That thing is written like the fake Torts letter to fans. Full of nonsense bullshit that the dumbest fans will gobble up.

They’ve changed absolutely nothing and things are still getting worse. They won’t be relevant for a decade or more. Gonna have to wait out the Jones/Briere/Torts era before there’s even a 1% chance at hiring competent people and seeing even a tiny improvement.

Seriously though - yeah - Jones is Mickey Mouse - but are their any data points to show Briere will suck? I mean - everyone laughed when the Eagles hired Siriani.

Sakic also had Kroenke Sports & Entertainment behind him who have a sizable and talented team across multiple sports.

Briere has, uh, I don’t even know.
How can you do the Nature Blob and Irwin R. Hanrahan dirty like that, Cannon? Danny has Flahrsy and the Cap Butcher, that's got to be worth 3 full organizations' support!

I don't want it to fail. I want the team to succeed. The hard reality is that it cannot succeed. Last time we hired a new president I said the same thing, because it was really obvious based on everything he'd ever done that Fletcher could only ever fail too. I was right. I've ended up being right about everything you've pushed back at me on for years.
