I was way too optimistic when I said that failure is the only possibility for this arrangement.
The amazing thing is that things aren't remotely done getting worse. Things are going to get much, much worse.
It’s frankly, and someone can correct me if I am wrong. A team for fans 45+. That’s not meant as an insult in any way.
It just seems to be the reality.
They don’t give a f*** about the modern game, or trying to attract/cater to a younger demographic outside of marketing attempts.
We heard first hand today what the approach is, what it’s going to be. All our beliefs about the incestous relationships in this organization, all the confirmation about alumni having influence… all that confirmed.
Comcast’s ineptitude on display again.
This was a slap in the face for anyone that had some hope, and isn’t a BSB gobbler.
It sucks. I can’t think of a better way to put it. Sigh.
AFAICT, Bundy is still angling for the opportunity to come in from the cold and get a job with the team again. I imagine he's hoping to leverage the former teammate angle with Jones to get his foot back in the door. (Hell, he might be hoping for Jonesy's old job.)ASF I think is being smart trying to give it a chance. He kind of needs to. I did think he pushed a little with his questions today.
Bundy is going to defend his lot.
Russ was obviously holding back in their last pod. He’s a dummy sometimes, but he knows what a joke this is. He can’t say so in front of the “star” of that podcast.
Jesus Christ almighty.
It’s really. Sometimes I do think why I bother. It’s obvious the kind of fan this organization cares about.
They have shown us repeatedly.
It sure does, Its no different in Winnipeg with the age they target, its just in Philly the type of hockey they think this demo wants.
Just look at the final 4 teams and you won't see that type of hockey anywhere.
All anyone had to say.
Sielski has been at their throats about this stuff since before Snider died, to the point where it was the specific reason people didn’t like him.Oh, Jesus, Torts, if Sielski of all people can immediately identify and distill the problem down into a single sentence, you know it's blindingly obvious. Just because those passionate, experienced disease vectors happen to like your prickly, arrogant ass doesn't mean they aren't poison.
Didnt Sielski ask if the flyers needed a fresh perspective and it visibly pissed off snider?Sielski has been at their throats about this stuff since before Snider died, to the point where it was the specific reason people didn’t like him.
Meh, typical corporate press conference. What did you expect them to say? We hired the best Flyer alumni we could find?
But did notice that Hilferty committed to the rebuild and said it was going to take years (plural). No "aggressive reload." No pretense of being competitive.
That's a huge change from the last decade.
Camillo in talking about Briere mentioned analytics and his analytical mind - I think that's one reason they wanted him to go to Wharton, to get exposed to business statistics, finance, etc. Not just for the business side, contract negotiations, etc., but also when he talks to analytics people he can actually speak their language (if you don't have any statistical background, the two reactions to analytics is either to dismiss them out of hand or blindly accept them as "magic").
The advisors may have thought Torts was a turnaround artist (that's Gallant), but he's comfortable with young players, they're just not comfortable with him, as it should be - tell Stoutland you have to coddle today's generation of players. I think a player you have to coddle (i.e. lacks the competitive fire and swagger to step up in big games) is called "trade bait."
I have no problem with Hilferty giving lip service to the past, the majority of his ST holders are men in their 40s and 50s (successful enough to have excess income to blow on STs) and he has to market to them. And I have no problem with a "Flyers way" if it means Carolina and Brind'Amour (a former Flyer!) as their model. Carolina plays sound, fundamental pressure hockey.

You do not need to defend everything the team does.
And it isn't lip service. They just made a robust and thorough announcement that this team is rooted in 1975 and in the people from then.
You are always wrong about this team because the delusional fantasy version of the Flyers you've invented in your head bears no resemblance to the real thing.
