I’d love to keep him we have far more expendable guys on this roster than Kreider. Especially if it’s 6.5 mil a year. Namestnikov makes 4 mil and is garbage.

However you listen to Gorton anytime someone brings up Kreider and he instantly goes cold. He wants to move him. It’s clear.

You need to look beyond this year. We can fit him this year, sure. What happens when these young guys need to get paid.

Chytil
Kakko
Kravtsov
Miller
Rykov
Hajek
ADA
Buchnevich
Lias
Zibanejad
on and on

He is not taking a 2 or 3 year deal. This is 7 years were talking about. We're talking about nearly 20 million tied up in two wingers who will be on the wrong side of 30.

Can’t give him 7 years. I think that’s probably understood. But 5 or 6 years 6.5 mil I seriously consider. I just don’t think he breaks down as much as others do. I also think like a pavelski his game is evolving to be more of a net front presence than a skater shooter. He’s a physical freak. At worst he probably has a bad season or two at the end but every team deals with that with their contracts. 6.5 mil in 4 or 5 years after a tv is not going to break the bank one way or the other.

Just my opinion. I’d keep him. Definitely brings an element the rest of our top 6 doesn’t have

Only way to keep Kreider is if he basically takes the same salary AND Gorton moves a bunch of salary off the books. Its not happening. Not worth the money or term. Take a 1st rounder and a prospect or try and package him with Shattenkirk for a better deal.

This is Kreider's retirement contract. There's no way he is signing for 5 years. And my point still stands. Anything longer than 3 years and we could be f***ed. Just off the top, Kakko, Zib and Kravtsov will need big new deals in that time. Add in all the other players and you're looking at losing a variety of solidly developed skilled younger players in favor of an aging Kreider.

I also think it's absolutely ridiculous for people to assume a new TV deal is going to blow the cap through 100 million. You can't assume things like that because you are just asking to get f***ed.

first off why would kreider take less than 7 years. its his chance to get paid...

second a 5-6 year deal has him signed for 6-7 years along with the 1 left on the current deal...so he's then signed well beyond when we'd have to resign zibanejad, kakko, kravtsov, chytil, etc and probably even guys like miller that aren't signed yet. so if you can make kreider fit along with those raises then giving him a 7th year isn't a big deal. but no idea how you fit all those guys

Why would he take less than 7 years? Because he gets to sign now rather than a year from now. If he has a tough season injury or production wise, he risks losing a lot of money. If I was in his shoes, I'm signing and I'm taking the little bit of a hit for peace of mind. Most players do, which is why so many top end players don't make it to UFA status.

he's not signing for less than 7. why would he take less than hayes or lee? if the rangers don't want to give him 7 years then he'll get traded to a team that will

Lee is more productive, therefore he gets paid more. Hayes is a center, and additionally was clearly overpaid as a pending UFA because he had that leverage.

I'm sure Kreider wants 7 years. Doesn't mean he'll get it, and it also doesn't mean he will choose to move to another team if he's presented with the choice of staying versus getting an extra year.

Max Pac signed for 4 just last year. I'm not saying Kreider will or won't take less than 7 but the absolute certainty here is a little much.

21. A 4th OA. Edm is hell for developing prospects - so there's always hope he'll get it once he leaves.

If it's a 1st and JP - I'm fine with it. Same price as Hayes more or less.

But there were question marks about his hockey sense even before he was drafted. If it's him and a their first maybe but even then, where would you even play him? And the hip thing is concerning. At least Lemieux has shown he can be effective in his role. Not the case with JP.

If we extend Kreider we won't have enough money to sign Hall as a FA next year. I'm not sure that's a good idea. It's not very often you have a former MVP in his prime available for nothing but money.

What makes you think the Rangers will go after Hall? That door closed when they signed Panarin.

JP is a bust and coming off hip surgery. What is the fascination with this player?

We get him at a low value. Kid is still only 21,playing on a mess of a team who rushed him to the show. He needs development, the skills are there but needs support and confidence. I think it's a little early to call him a bust. Zibanajad was in the same boat in Ottawa.

Also....I think Kreider is as good as gone, he is gonna be looking for a Hayes type deal, it's too rich and long for a guy like Kreider.

Zibby was nowhere near as bad in Ottawa as JP has been in Edmonton.
