Let's not forget that moving him will also get us another asset that can potentially help us in the future.
So too will moving Buch. I would argue that Kreider fits in more with this team than Buch does. Trading Buch means freeing up money for him. Let's say you sign Kreider to a 6 year deal. Yes, the speed will diminish, but his board work will continue as will hit net front presence.

Exactly. I like Buch but let’s be honest he is easier to replace. What a Kreider brings is very difficult to replace

Kreider has the more unique skill set, but that means absolutely nothing if he wants 7 years @ 7+ mil on this next contract. I'd rather have Buch at 3.5 mil than Kreider at 7 mil.

Paying a 28 year old Kreider 7M for the next 7 years when we have Panarin on our team is different than re-signing/bridging a 24 year old like Buch.

Buch hasn't even peaked yet and he's producing pretty much the same amount as Kreider.

Kreider's days were ultimately finished here when we signed Panarin.

Same old...same old...

Starting to think that I don't know anymore whether Kreider is good or bad at hockey.

If you're concerned about Chytil's development as a 2C, then Panarin is who you want on his side. Not Kreider.

If panarin were on his wing he’d be facing the top lines and defense pairings every night. No that isn’t the best option for him just yet.

kreider drives play with whoever he plays with. He gets to every puck. Putting them behind Mika and panarin would be ideal

If he’d take 6x6 I’d consider bringing him back.

He adds a very different element to the top-6, and we really don’t have a replacement.

But he’s gonna get 7x7

I’d give him $6.5 million per for 6 years, but I’m biased. And I’d move Namestnikov, Strome and Brady ‘middling, and replaceable 2nd pairing LD’ Skjei to make it work.

i know some of you guys will defend krieder but my lord other then his speed he lacks awareness and skill in most other areas of the game
. Nobody is defending him. Also the whole “Kreider has a low hockey iq” thing is bullshit. His defense alone has greatly improved since his first couple years. He is also a very underrated passer. I have no issue trading him if we get a great offer but I don’t thing just trading him for cap space is not a smart move.

Anyone think Kreider would take a Eberle like contract ($5.5 mil per) to stay in NY and be a part of the upcoming awesomeness? Maybe pick Kreider over Shatty and move him at the deadline instead or before?

That way Names and Smith moved this off season can account for Trouba, ADA, Buch and Lemmy.

No that's asking too much. I'm calling 6.2 x 5.
The key here, even more than $, is term.
4 or 5 yr max term.

I am in the minority that wants him to stay. I think he still has a lot to give, and will be hard to replace. Will be upset if he is gone, But after what happened to me here 5 years ago, I won't put a player before a team anymore. If he moves on, so be it, nothing else can be done. After Panarin signed, I knew Kreider's time with the Rangers would be over, but still holding out a little hope. If the Rangers really want to keep him, they will find a way, but it also means he needs to be on the same page, and take a discount as well.

I believe in the rumors GMJG tried shipping him to Colorado. It's only a matter a time before he is dealt, honestly.

There's really no point in giving him the 7 X 7 contract. Would love to watch him in the playoffs again but age/contract/status of our team should make it a priority to trade him for a Hayes type deal.

i think some here are more inclined to focus on the speed and size CK brings rather than the actual production.

hes a mid 50's point player. period. nothing wrong with that unless he morphs into rick nash.

hes 28 and looking for that dreaded 2nd deal into his mid 30's

i think moving him makes more sense than keeping him.

i would keep buchnevich at 24. with more toi and pp1, kid could get 30 and at a better value.
