Oddly enough, Nylander, along with Boosh and Holmberg, led the team in hits taken. Tavares with zero.

It was pretty obvious that Tampa knew Willy was the dangerous player on that line and targeted him all night.

Not that I'm condoning it, but I think I'd give up if I was stuck with JT again, after playing so well away from him.

Still, Nylander had the second best iCF (behind Matty), and the best iFF (just ahead of Matty) for the game. Matty the only Leaf with more shots (6 to 5).

Absolutely way past time to get JT off the second line and away from Willy. He's also totally useless on the PP.
Where do you put Tavares where he won’t kill the line

I should have been more clear. When the Leafs are kept to the outside they just keep playing perimeter hockey. When they get time and space especially when the center of the ice is not well protected Leafs have no issues

Probability of the former rather than the latter is much higher in the playoffs
I think this years team has done a better job fighting to get to the front of the net.

They are going to have to be even more consistent at it once the playoffs start.

Woll allowing the first shot in again.

Keefe playing the 4th line against Tampa’s 1st which features an MVP candidate.

Keefe sticking with McMann-Tavares-Nylander when they’ve been terrible the past few games.

The Kid Line can’t be relied upon to score every game, and the fourth line isn’t built to score and isn’t built to matchup against the other teams top lines, least of all with Brodie as one of the defensemen with them. Marner can’t come back soon enough. Gotta re-jig line 2.

At least Matthews scored again and we weren’t shutout. PK is still going strong too.

the 2nd line is easily the worst since couple of game

do you really kid line against kucherov?

so whats the real option left? Matthews line and 4th line

coach do miracle and need to run with people he have and the problem is nylander and tavares choose to disapear like 10 game before playoff start and its scary

Couple of breakdowns that Tampa converted on, Kampf leaving the front of the net and then the 2 on 1 with Stamkos. I don't think Woll is playing awful or not giving them a chance to win, he's just been letting goals in that you'd like to see saved, like the 4th one.

Vasy looks good again, that's a problem for any team playing Tampa in round 1.

They've actually done worse. We're on pace for 778 shots from in front of the net. Last year, we had 900 shots from the front of the net, and we had 883 the year before.

The stats say he's one of the worst goalies in the NHL this season, and that's with his 'hot streak'

the stats was saying bobrovsky was awful last year but with goalie is you need to be hot a the right time and right now the only goalie giving leafs a chance to win in evwry game its Samsonov.

Woll had like 1 good start since he came back of his injury in like 7-8 game vs Samsonov who keeping leafs in every game... the choice is extremely easy

The reality is if samsonov is hurt right now with how Woll playing, leafs should consider starting playoff with Jones over Woll with how Woll playing rihht now

to win in playoff, you cant only making basis save because if you let hard save goes in every time and opposite goalie save it... good luck in playoff, your chance to win are extremely low.

The should count all of Bertuzzi's missed shots from 3 feet.
I find that rather surprising.
Haha, yeah Bertuzzi has probably dragged that number down, but even if we include shots that missed the net, and look at overall high danger chances, we're on pace for 1160, which is down from the 1225 we had last year. We've never been anything close to a perimeter team, but it's never stopped people from claiming otherwise.

You can not blame goaltending when all the money is upfront. I am sorry. And on top of that, the coach is dumb as a rock.

Even in games the team doesn’t look good, Benoit manages to stand out as steady. If Keefe sits him in favour of Brodie, who was awful last night, he deserves to lose his job. What can he possibly be watching on film?

Was Keefe ever questioned about his deployment of the 4th line?
That was a game changer, IMO.

I can already see his answer.

Just came off double shifting the top 2 lines on the PP and he had the choice of putting out the 3rd or 4th lines or tired top 2. He went with the 4th line vets hoping Kampf would win the faceoff.

The TV narrative was pretty silly IMO but good analysts are rare these days.

I get experimenting before the playoffs but home ice was in their grasp and it was virtually a nothing game for Tampa. Nobody is getting the Vasi we got last year. Better hope we do not get the Bob we got last year.

Sure, but after getting one whistle, he could have went back to another line for the next faceoff.

willy didnt have it last night i didnt even see him get anywhere close to top speed on offense

I didn't rhink Holl was as bad as some claimed, but I still couldn't figure out why Keefe overplayed him so often.

Same this year with Brodie.

I didn’t think they were that bad.
Needed a few saves.
I only saw the 1st period. What about them only getting 4 shots in the 3rd? Wouldn't you think they would have had a little more desperation in them, what with the fact that they could have clinched a playoff spot with a win (of course they're going to make it), and having a better chance of catching the Panthers and getting home ice advantage?

That's the gamble there.

I really don't think he trusts the kids against any top QoC at all and was putting a lot of faith in a faceoff win. I have no clue what players were doing wide open in front of our net though and that's not just on the 4th line.

Arguably our 2 beat defensive wingers on Marner and Jarnkrok are coming back to shore up depth soon so I'm not too bothered by tonight's game.

How many times is Keefe gonna run the 4th or 3rd line against TB top line before he realizes these clowns are not up to the task and if you pull that garbage we are likely going down by a goal.

Keefe is not a very good coach despite his record.

Complete overreactions in here, as usual. I thought we played fine in a game that meant nothing. We’re still short handed and I’m sure he’s testing out his bottom 6 to see who he can rely on and who will come out when Marner and Jarnkrok are back.

They weren't very good in the 3rd, Tampa shut them down.
