They weren't very good in the 3rd, Tampa shut them down.
Interesting to note that the Leafs seemed to play the same in the third regardless if they are ahead or trailing. The difference is the opponent I guess, if they are trailing they dominate looking to score, if they are leading, they just let the time pass with as little happening as possible.

I don't put too much worth in this particular game. Leafs can play better and will come playoff time. Not saying it will be enough, but they will be better.

I'm not going to get worked up over this game, even though there was a lot not to like.

Playing for home ice advantage isn't much of a motivator and they all know the important games are a couple of weeks away. But I do hope they recognize they'll need to bring some intensity to their last two games (@ TB & Panthers) so they go into game one on the right note.

Disappointing game... and likely there goes home ice advantage, unless we go on a heater, and Panthers fall apart the rest of the way. On to the next one.

Kinda of a grinder physical game where neither team went full out .. but Reavo stood out again and 4th line as a whole played well .. game could have went either way .. neither team wanted an injury .. just one of those games .. on to da next one

If there is nothing on the line, I would expect the Leafs to rest their stars. Maybe Mitch plays to get back into game shape.

I am perfectly fine not having home ice advantage. It's such an odd thing to get caught up on. Being able to start on the road and have the opportunity to steal games in other teams rinks is an incredible opportunity.

to win in playoff, you cant only making basis save because if you let hard save goes in every time and opposite goalie save it... good luck in playoff, your chance to win are extremely low.
Well yes, any team that has won has had a goalie play stupidly good. Sometimes they have down series or subpar series but they don't have them for 4 rounds.

To win in the playoffs for Toronto its simple:

1. Keep offence rolling.
2. Don't give up a lot of high quality chances
3. Hope your goalies get hot in the playoffs. (easier to do when you buckle down and don't give grade A chances)

On Monday night Colorado was down 3-1 for most of the third period, up until Columbus scored an empty netter. MacKinnon played 10:11 in the period and Rantanen played 11:34.

Last night Matthews played 4:29 in the third period and had one shift in the final 6:30 of the game

Bet99man?

Sheldon "Peter Rose" Keefe?

That was a big win for Tampa, moves them within 4 points of us. Imagine we get bounced from the top 3 into a wild card spot heading into the playoffs. Either way, facing Florida or Rangers I think we’re screwed…

its the case for every team...

1. you need a least 3 line able to contribute offensively at 5v5.
2 and 3 are right
4. you need luck too... 1 or 2 lucky bounce at the right or wrong time can drastically change everything... jt goal gm 6 is a great exemple and a positive one

get a call on holl on jt goal but nothing on killorn who did the same exact thing on muzzin gm 7 or get a pk in a ghost high stick gm 6, its part of negative luck gm.

Our 4th line has Kampf and Dewar on it. Technically, they are two of the most reliable defensive forwards on the squad. The only forward you don't want on the ice at that time was Reaves.

But Kucherov just made a really nice pass/play.

Don't think that was some massive turning point people are making it out to be.

Looked to me like Sheldon was experimenting, seeing what Tampa was about, and not showing his hand. Wait for the playoffs. Gotta play poker sometimes.

Get a couple of our regulars back and we're golden.

And the most important thing is the Leafs initiated hits, were a bit dirty, and won The Fight. This stuff defused Tampa's attitude towards the Leafs as being a soft touch. F*** you, Cooper.

I'll take this game! Well done boys :thumbu:

It wasn't 7D chess... It was Keefe Keefing things up.

One of those games that was a complete and utter dud. Put it aside and move on to the next one.

So, based on that, and the fact they left the 4th line out in an odd situation, we could surmise that the Leafs were using the two games this week to expose some of their players to specific situations to see how they would fare.

I have no problem with it. I think people are going to far with the 'causing them to lose their confidence' and such. Same with Matthews. The team was clearly not going, why waste him. Now with two days off he gets a chance to recover from a lighter than normal workload.

Feels like the team is damned if you do, damned if you don't with regard to trial and error, managing minutes, situational management etc.

I have to say I am fine with them tinkering these past two games. I'd like to see the real deal for the games vs Pit, at the Devils and vs Wings (or any three games they choose down the stretch).

Game was so promising in the first. Leafs were dominant.

Second was meh. Third was more of Vasy stading on his head and Tampa putting on a defensive clinic.

I guess a positive is that the Leafs were dominating and could win if they played 3 periods that way. Keefe wont be starting his fourth line against other teams top lines in the playoffs. And we have a few bodies comming back. Oh, and Sammy will be our starter.

On to the next one

Matchup wise, we don't do well against Florida/Boston/Carolina but I think the Rangers would be a preferable matchup for Toronto, they don't play you hard and stingy like how Boston/FLA play.

Toronto is more then willing to play the skill game like how Tampa/Rangers like to play.
