This is pretty similar to the JT Miller trade. Now, granted, Miller cost more... but Miller or Kapanen?
Miller is a better player..

I still don't know that Kapanen's gonna fit with Sid. The speed's there, the potential for solid offensive numbers are there, but it's a crapshoot whether or not his IQ drives Sid insane and Kapanen's on the 3rd line a month into next season. Which, again, isn't the worst thing in the world. The 3rd line's in need of some speed and offensive ability in its own right, and I'd gladly move Hornqvist now to see what we could get.
A McCann-Bennett-Kapanen 3rd line looks like it could be either really good, or fall flat on its face.
Murray for Bennett makes a lot of sense right now not sure what Calgary thinks tho
LOL if we get a Staal and its not Jordan, I'm doneIt doesn’t matter which, knowing the Pens whoever they keep will immediately get injured.
In all seriousness, I don’t trust his idea of a significant deal. We’ll probably end up with E Staal and someone else from his past.

UMMMMM NO!
Everyone liked Hallander while simultaneously not knowing a whole lot about him. His highlight tape looked good (as it is supposed to) but it is obvious the scouts feel he would not help this team now or at any point during the Crosby/Malkin era. Same goes for the 15th pick. I get that this is a deep draft but it seems after the first few picks, the rest of the draft prospects will need a few years to develop. That doesnt help right now.
If you wait to build a team that can be good three years from now, you've already wait too long. JR has made some really bad moves...maybe this will be another one. But the attitude from some of you makes me laugh. You legitimately think you know better than the GM and the scouts have no idea what they are doing.
One thing I'm interested in seeing is whether Kapanen is used as the left half wall PP option on the top unit now. He definitely has the shot and hands to work well in the role, so if he wants to be a pure triggerman for that spot, I think that could work well. I think a reason we didn't see Rust on that unit was because Sullivan didn't want to strain Rust too much with that much ice time, but you can probably split that top unit ice time between Rust and Kapanen (with one getting significant PP time and one getting significant PK time) to keep both of them at manageable levels.
Coming into this off-season, I think the Penguins had 3 huge holes: 3C, 3rd pair RD and top-6 RWer. They filled one of those with this trade, albeit a super overpayment with that. I imagine we'll see McCann and Murray go out for the other 2 holes.
Except he's not going to be 3RW and you know this. He will slot in on Malkin or Sid's RW. He is brought in to be a Top 6 wing, a position which is very capable of doing.
I think the best comparable for Kappy is prime Hagelin tbh. Speedy, little more physical and nooooo finish.
So, maybe you see Zucker - Malkin - Kapanen really take off actually.
Kapanen is a much better shooter than Hagelin.
What evidence to you have to suggest that because three of his four years in the league have been below replacement-level. That doesn't scream "top six" to me.
so glad you dropped by to contribute nothing else other than haha you guys are upsetI came here to see the always-measured reaction to the Pens trades and I was not disappointed. Right or wrong, the Pens obviously like Kasperi better than a lot of us and some in the analytics community. At this point, JR—after two cups—has every right to burn this franchise to the ground. Show some respect everyone.
