This. It’s really not bad. You can’t expect to win every trade. And people on here were WAY too high on Hallander.

15 OA or not, this team is not going to be competing in four years. So, why not try to push as hard as we can right now, and then make sure that when we suck, we SUCK (and aren’t caught in mediocrity for a decade like so many teams)?

The team seems high on Poulin, so I expect Hornqvist to be traded.

Crosby is 33, Malkin 34, and Letang 33 (34 next spring). So I get why Rutherford feels like he has to make short-term moves. However, the problem isn't him going all-in with his chips. Rather, it's why he's had to trade so many of these picks and prospects. Trading a 1st for Kapanen wouldn't be as bad if he hadn't had parted with other assets to dump Reaves, Hunwick, and Gudbranson,

100%. If this was just one deal after keeping players like Sundqvist, our 1st in the Zucker deal, etc. I'd like it. The issue is he has burned through literally all of our assets in the past three years for no reason. When we won the cup it was because of shrewd moves. Hagelin for Perron, a 3rd for Schultz, Bonino for Sutter + a pick.

Now he's just throwing around 1sts for "fits" that he hopes work out.

I'm judging based on their collapse in February and March. The Habs series was just icing on that cake.

I think the Kapanen acquisition means McCann is on the outs. I can't see how they can afford to pay McCann now that their top-6 is set.

If this deal means McCann is gone.. then I suddenly like this deal a lot more.

I still don't know that Kapanen's gonna fit with Sid. The speed's there, the potential for solid offensive numbers are there, but it's a crapshoot whether or not his IQ drives Sid insane and Kapanen's on the 3rd line a month into next season. Which, again, isn't the worst thing in the world. The 3rd line's in need of some speed and offensive ability in its own right, and I'd gladly move Hornqvist now to see what we could get.

A McCann-Bennett-Kapanen 3rd line looks like it could be either really good, or fall flat on its face.

Yeah, I just don't see where McCann fits in now that they've acquired Kapanen. To me, Kapanen is definitely going to be in their top-6, JR said as much according to Mirtle. They were already pressed for cap space and JR has specifically said he wants to acquire a 3C. So are they really going to pay McCann the kind of money he wants on an extension to only be a 3rd line LW? When they have Poulin knocking on the door as being NHL ready?

I just don't see how they can keep McCann. McCann's money was just given to Kapenen.

Why should JR give a shit about the future? Dude's gone by this time next summer whether we win the Cup or miss the playoffs/get swept in the 1st round.

I came here to see the always-measured reaction to the Pens trades and I was not disappointed. Right or wrong, the Pens obviously like Kasperi better than a lot of us and some in the analytics community. At this point, JR—after two cups—has every right to burn this franchise to the ground.
