Agents are fairly smart people, I would imagine. As such, I think they'd be bright enough to look at other comps throughout the league and not solely one outlier just because it happened to be offered by the same organization.

You are correct I am sure they will also use Dan Girardi, Marc Staal Andy Mcdonald Jeff Petry etc.

Alzner's a UFA, not an RFA. He should get paid whatever the market will pay him, or whatever he's willing to accept. Comparables don't really apply to his situation. The market has drastically changed on players like Orpik and Girardi since 2 years ago. There's a reason why Kris Russell isn't going to get what he hoped for as a UFA this season.

Alzner is better than Russell though

Theres more of a market for a 2/3 than a 5.

I think he'll end up between 4-5M long term and a NMC back with the Caps. They're contenders, he's played there his whole career, he has a lot of trust and responsibilities from the coaching staff etc. No reason for him to move. He won't hit the market so his salary won't get inflated. I Think the spectrum is Hjalmarsson to Vlasic.

4m long term ? keep dreaming, this is 2016. He will end up getting 5.5 to 6.5. The is no chance he signs a deal long term under 5 million. best case for the caps he signs for 5.5 and that would be low end.
