I don't watch much of the Wild but is Kap the main reason they're doing so well?
Yes, reason 1A.

Reason 1B is Gustavsson.

I'd have those flipped, personally. If Gus wasn't doing what Gus is doing, what Kaprizov is doing wouldn't matter. If Kaprizov wasn't doing what Kaprizov is doing, we'd still be a playoff team.

isn't Kap factoring in on 49% of Wild goals? I don't know how solid that assertion is.

It's possible, not sure. Safe to say if we were missing both we'd be a bottom 10 team. I just think Gus' season has a bit more to do with the team being first in the league than Kaprizov's season.

Id put Kaprizoff over Matthews. Kaprizoff drives play. Matthews waits for Marner to drive play and put it on a silver platter for him.

I've always wondered if Kiprusoff and Kaprizov have the same root, where one is just the Finnish version and the other the Russian version of the same name.

Good question… as a non-linguist and non-Eastern European, my best try at an answer:

“Kapriz” in Russian is каприз, which translates roughly to “whim”. The suffix “ov” more or less means “of”, in the sense of being part of a particular family (same logic that causes so many English names to end in “son”). So, Kaprizov means something like “son of the whimsical guy”.

(So it’s enticingly close to meaning “son of the Wild one”)

The “off” in Kiprusoff also means “of _____” so the question is where the “Kiprus” comes from. Unfortunately there’s no easy answer. It is literally the Greek word for Cyprus, which is where Nick Kypreos got his surname. If that’s not the connection, it’s something obscure. It could theoretically be connected to каприз, but it would more likely be spelled Кипрус in Russian,
so there would have to be a bit of corruption involved.

Kaprisov is the hart front runner. Mack is only 4 pts up on rants with a +6, Kaprisov is 17 pts up on Boldy with a +23. Eichel is having a great year but has 40% of the goals kap has with a +11.

Kapriz is from french Caprice, same meaning.
Cyprus is Кипр in russian, Киприот is "from Cyprus", origin is cypress or copper, no connection to Caprice.

Yeah, Kirill is so much better than anybody else on the team. And don't forget about injuries. Zucc has just played his first game after a big break, EEk is unjured which really hurts Minny's PP, and Kaprizov is still ahead of the whole league but MacKinnon and leads NHL in goals (with Drai).
