Teams probably offered picks for him but Hextall refused. He likes to lurk here and see us get riled up.

HahaPlot twist, Hextall is Pens X.

Haha
I’m too active on this site to be Hextall. Look at posters who post three times a year.
Kirk disappeared right around when Hextall got hired....it all adds up....Haha

Ahhhhhhhhhh son of a bitch!
He’s an awful bottom six guy with defensive forwards and he wasn’t gonna get a chance in the top six.Absolutely he will be putting up 25 goals next year.
How?
Who knew Ron Hextall was such a huge Malkin stanKirk disappeared right around when Hextall got hired....it all adds up....
100%Thank goodness our long national nightmare is over.
edit, and make no mistake, being rid of Kapanen makes the Pens a better team on the ice, irrespective of cap hit. It doesn't make them good, but it makes them better.
Yeah, this is very true. Plus, sleepy only did this to get Rutta back in the lineup, not because he finally wanted to make a change. The move itself is a nothing burger, we're basically back to where we were during the offseason. It's just strange because as bad as Kap could be, there are way worse parts of the bottom 6 that we're not even looking at. That's why people are cynical, I think.
Like great, we got rid of one of 6 badly performing pieces. But there's a guy with almost as much cap hit and just as much term who is tattooed on the lineup sheet, there's a guy who has nearly as much hit and more term that does nothing, we've got a rapidly declining 3C/4C who has visibly regressed in the last few seasons, and then we have some energy guys that do not have energy.
It's like treating you for a headache when you have leprosy.
Unfortunately, Hextall has been awful too since JR quit. And I blame JR for most of it. He was just terrible after the last cup....
Nice try, Ron. You spend too much time posting here that there is no time to be a GM.Haha

Well there is a timeline where we had a greater than 0% chance drafting himWho says we would have drafted Steel?
And the Penguins could've drafted Pastrnak with the pick they used on Kapanen. /shrug
There are almost always gonna be situations where you look back and realize a team made the "wrong" pick--hell, even Staal over guys like Kessel, Toews, and Backstrom was questionable. You're just gonna annoy yourself by going back and looking over drafts with the benefit of hindsight.
Although, the way this team took Pouliot over the obvious consensus pick in Forsberg, or even Trouba if the team wanted to stick to NA blueliners like they adored under Shero, will always be good for a hearty laugh.
Absolutely he will be putting up 25 goals next year.

Kapanen scored 30pt in 40gp the first year he was brought in when playing with Malkin. So no, it wasn't a total disaster. That pick ended up a nothing anyway. The whole Kapanen "experiment" was just a disaster.
The trade was an absolute disaster and I thought him and Johnsson were about the same middling overpaid players that the Leafs desperately needed to get rid of. And for some reason JR overpaid like crazy for him. Probably the worst trade JR did looking at it beforehand since noone knew the Brassard trade would turn out that bad.
And then the contract he signed was almost just as bad. He had already showed what a flawed player he was and should be only considered a fast pking bottom 6 player and there wasn't much upside left and still he got 3.2 for 2 years which made his value basically nothing from the moment he signed. He was only ever worth 1.5-2 million with what he had shown so in the end getting him off the wage bill was a win. Could he have brought back a 5th-7th? yeah, but that was about it.
Just so frustrating pissing away a 1st rounder on such a player....
And I blame JR for most of it. He was just terrible after the last cup....
The Penguins hindsight lineup is quite good. And the Penguins could've drafted Pastrnak with the pick they used on Kapanen. /shrug

My favorite hindsight pick is how we picked Dominik Simon 2 picks away from Kaprizov.Kapanen scored 30pt in 40gp the first year he was brought in when playing with Malkin. So no, it wasn't a total disaster. That pick ended up a nothing anyway.
Hextall signing him to the 2 year deal was the mistake. This whole debacle is on Hextall and Sullivan, much more so than Kapanen.
The Penguins hindsight lineup is quite good.
