Given your post history I have a really hard time figuring out if you're serious here.

Especially since I think you dislike the Petry move?
I don’t dislike the Petry move and generally supported a shake-up. However, I would have found a way to do it without shipping our Marino and Matheson. For starters, I just wouldn’t have signed Ruutu.

By the way, I see that you live in morningside, ever gone to bulldogs?

Regarding Kap, I know he won’t let me down this year. 25 goals at least.

Must've had you mixed up with someone else regarding Petry.

And yes, was just at Bulldog yesterday for chicken wings, fries, and beer. The waitress told us that Jesse, the owner, broke his kneecap when he fell carrying something on the basement stairs yesterday morning.

Ouch.

I fell a a fall a few months ago trying to go under a rope line at the airport with my carry luggage but luckily wasn't hurt.

I was wearing no slip sole shoes.

Good spot? I’m just across the river from you. I’m always looking to try new spots.

You in Sharpsburg?

It's a pretty decent bar for sports, beer, and American food. Their menu used to be bigger pre COVID. Now it's just a few appetizers, a few sandwiches, wings, and pizza (plain or pepperoni). The interior needed some updates which they did during the COVID lockdown. Bathrooms are still tiny but I don't think there's much they can do about it.

Pretty sure they do brunch too, but I haven't been there that early. Believe it or not.

Fox Chapel. I’ll have to try the wings.

Thanks

Please don't saddle Sid or Geno with Kap. The 20 goal season was an outlier. The 11 goal in 40 game season his shooting % was well above his career average.

It's not Jeff Carter's fault Kap is a bottom six player. I'm not even sure Sid/Geno can drag mediocre 3rd liners into bad 2nd liners anymore.
Kap isn't a bottom 6 player, though I understand your point. His talent screams top 6, but his utter disdain to play anything but the perimeter invalidates him for bottom 6.

Because they believe that's what he is worth and that last year was an aberration.

Right or wrong, it's not hard to figure out why they signed him to the contract.
If we’re truly going for it the next 2-3 years, I want a guy making 3.2 in the bottom 6 to know what he’s doing. Not hoping he figured it out as we go through Sid and genos final years. People complain about mcginns contract? This is way worse.

We are going for it as long as it doesn’t cost a first round pick:

At least Hextall’s dumbass didn’t sign him to 6 years - that’s about the only silver lining.

I think it's reasonable to assess that last year was just a down year for Kap. Previous 3 years he was a 40+ point type of player. $3.2M is pretty fair for that.

However, the problem I have with it is that Kap is not a play driver. He's not physical. He's not great defensively. He not a puck hound. He just doesn't bring anything unique to the team other than his production. If you've got a fully stocked top 6, that's fine. The Pens don't. So unless he reaches his potential and can fill out the top 6 (which I'm not convinced he can do), it's money poorly spent.

Who knows, though? Maybe he bounces back and having an extra year at a reasonable cap hit allows them to trade him for some actual value.

Technically Kapanen is a middle six guy, not bottom six. And there is evidence that he does know what he's doing, given his performance in past years.

Was last year aggravating and disappointing? Absolutely. But he's shown in the past he can be an effective third wheel in the top six or an effective top nine player. He had 30 points in 40 games two years ago. The question is if he's going to remain incredibly inconsistent or if he can become more reliable.

You're not going to get much different from the free market at $3 million per year.

How long do we quote his pace from two years ago??? This one time, two years ago, he was good for 40 games!!!

Hell, even Erod was good for several months last year. Will people still be pointing to those 3 months in two years from now????

I'm happier with Kapanen at 2 years than 1. Either you think his bad season has made him undercosted for the player he is and you want some term on that bargain, or you just think he's not good enough in which case why is he here at all? Since the management believes in the former, I'm glad they followed through (even if I lean a little towards the latter). No need to go halfway house here.
