Confirmed with Link: Kane to Detroit

I'm inclined to believe he'll stick around until he retires if he's still able to play. He's already won 3 Cups... I doubt he's ring chasing at this point in his career.

Think he will just want to get the feeling of a RISING team again. He had that at Chicago, at 2007-10. Then after success the salaries exploded, they lost their other talent from the team, only stars were left. That same death spiral Wings had after 2009.

Those horrible years. Success creates a problem, You lose some of your prime years to early success. But you still have some hockey heart in you, and you want to feel that upswing again. Those best days of life.

Red Wings are the next upswing team. Sooner or later. That's why Kane will join.

I don't know that I agree that competitive professional athletes stop chasing success because they already have enough. I think we saw that with Tampa Bay's run all those years. When they lost a series, despite having won multiple Cups beforehand, lots of players voiced grave disappointment in their defeat.

Hopefully, I'm wrong though. And hopefully Kane is worth keeping around for several years. After the last week of play, it's not completely unfathomable that the Wings could make a run this year or in the next couple years.

Murmurs in Chicago, from people who are close to those plugged into the situation, are that Kane's wishes are indeed to remain with Detroit beyond this year (assuming everything works out and the situation doesn't go south). I guess time will tell.

Someone mentioned compartmentalizing this, and... yeah. I have to at least. I've posted the Patrick Kane stuff I know from years ago, and I don't like the guy. Probably never will. Will hate seeing him wear the Winged Wheel, but alas, it's professional sports. He won't be the first scumbag to wear it, won't be the last, and only the hockey gods know how many scumbags have worn it who no one knew were scumbags. Here's to hoping he helps the team and we suck some value out of him for our own long-term benefit.

Did you not watch any Rangers games he played last year or catch any Nick Backstrom games this year? The only people who should be excited by this are local douche bag frat boys who are getting to be represented by one of their own on the Red Wings.

Most exciting day in Detroit sports since the Lions hired that rapist as their head coach.
Yikes dude

What if I said something like "the only people bummed by this signing are miserable bastards with no lives or friends"

Or even a year ago.
Indeed...Since Yzerman's return we hear of patience and building through the draft...Now don't get me wrong I'm not one to complain ( :sarcasm: ) but since this summer things have certainly taken a turn...For the better via UFA/trades.

I'd say that hockey is the one escape from my friendless, miserable bastard of a life and now when I go there I will have to see the abomination that is Patrick Kane desecrating that beloved winged wheel.
Good luck picking a sports team in any league if you are expecting every player on that team to be a good human.

Patience usually comes into conflict with the business side of this sport. Fortunately, the Wings have a lot of goodwill and a solid brand with the fandom that will keep many of them showing up to to games. That's not to say that this will be a surefire result despite a long term lack of success though.

Patience sounds good, in theory. It sounds controlled, stable, and less risky. But it's not necessarily good for business either. Not a lot of fans want to pay $100+ to watch a lousy product. Some will do it regardless, but that's probably like 20% of the fan base. Chris Illitch only recently inherited this team from his father. He probably doesn't want to have his legacy be that he ran this team into mediocrity or the ground. That's a good thing for the fans.

I honestly just want to see on the PP kane and dbc link up like they have before and they both do the heartbreaker celebration at each other.

That would be hilarious. Imagine? Kane passes cross seam to dbc on the back door and dbc buries it. Then he looks at kane and glides over on one knee doing the celebration but kane is doing the exact same thing once he see dbc drop to one knee?

sexy stuff right there

I'm looking into bumper stickers that indicate Kane as a Red Wing. If I can get a bulk order for a reasonable price, I'm going to start slapping them on cars in the parking lots of the rinks I play at here in Chicagoland.

You're welcome in advance :naughty:
You’re only allowed to do this if you also slap stickers promoting ball hockey on those cars.

You'll get over it when DeBrincat buries 10 PP goals over the rest of the season on Kane feeds.

I wish this didn't happen. This is not a move you make if you still need young competitive core talent and I think it hurts in the long run. Also hope this is a deadline trade for us.

Will be nice to see the players get to line up with a legit HOF superstar though. The help is sorely needed and going to acknowledge that.

Also we have a legit GM now so it's no longer our only hope to have high draft position so we can at least hope for talent by accident due to a high pick in spite of the GM's incompetence.

Not my favorite move and timing but not the end of the world and the fans that can't wait at least have more to watch on the ice now.

There are plenty of websites where you can design your own bumper sticker.

They made us wear vaccination badges at work when the COVID shutdown ended, I designed and custom ordered badges with the pirate guinea pig from South Park and handed them out, lol.

If you want to go cheap, do a 3" circular sticker with "Patrick Kane" on top of a Wings logo.

I have always liked Kane as a player and was hoping this would happen when i saw the first rumors.

But the biggest thing about this for me is the fact that Kane chose the Red Wings, it's not like it was the only team that would have signed him especially now that it is clear that he was willing to sign a one year contract.

Before the season started the public opinion seemed to be that Sabres and Senators are the two teams with a chance for a playoff spot while everyone trashed Yzerman's moves just like last offseason. I Know we're only 20games in but it's looking pretty nice, and Kane choosing Wings over Sabres is also saying something. And i haven't seen many Sens games this season but at least last night they looked god awful.
