you're in denial if you can't admit that 1 win in 5 games with him in the lineup is bad.

-he's minus 6
-he's giving up on plays defensively
-his so called "chemistry with DeBrincat" is non-existent, to the point where they arent even on each others line anymore

I dont understand why its so hard for some people to be critical at times. His start as a Red Wing has been awful. Can it change? possibly, but as of now, he's been nothing more than underwhelming
They also are without the top 2 center man and lalonde is doing this stupid 7 D thing which means veleno is being overplayed and looks exhausted. With our top 2 centers out, we are losing way more faceoffs and therefore have far less possession. Kane has hit 4 posts and has a goal and an assist and is generating lots of chances. He looks very good out there and once we have our top 2 centers back I have no doubt things will get better. To blame the losses on kane is simply ridiculous.

you're putting words in my mouth though. I never blamed the losses on Kane, I simply said "the team looks terrible with Kane in the lineup". 1 win in 5 is terrible...

and he's hit 4 posts lol, good for him. Let's see where those posts are showing up on the scoresheet and helping the team win games. He has not "looked very good out there". Of course, that's a matter of opinion, so if in your opinion he's looked very good, then thats fine. But in my opinion he hasn't. He looks slow. He looks lazy on defence and he looks like he is doing too much.

I'll admit, I'm being very reactionary here, but I mean, his sample size of 5 games has been bad. I really hope he can figure it out and help the team win games, but at the moment, there is not a single argument anyone could put forth about how he is helping the team win, because since he's joined, all the team has done is lose.

Yup totally Kanes fault, nailed it. You're a real Sherlock Holmes here on these boards.

you can't argue facts though

it is a fact that we have lost 4 of 5 games with him in the lineup, and it is a fact that he's -6.
I can argue those facts are pretty much irrelevant as to why we lost those games. I’m not sure what you expected from kane coming off hip surgery at 35, onto a new team almost midway through the season but it’s hard to blame him for these last few games. Especially when you consider that he’s been generating most of the offensive chances they’ve had during that stretch.

I don't think he will be dealt. I fully expect us to be in the playoff hunt come trade deadline.
I want Andrew copp dealt. He doesn't have a NTC which is good but don't know if yzerman is a fan of his play or not. For me at 5.8 mil per year that guys been absolute trash. Brings down any line he's put on. At 5 plus mil per year u must have some offensive skill in u but nope. Not saying he shud even be a 50 point guy. Sorry for going of btw but this guy can't handle pucks can make plays in the offensive zone it's automatically going the other way. He was signed as a 2nd line cnetre lmao. Easily one of yzermans worst signings and it happens to every gm.

We've also lost 4 out of 5 without Compher and 3 out of 4 without Larkin which kind of feels relevant.
Of course that's relevant, Larkin is our best player, and the team plays with so much more emotion and passion when he's in the lineup. Compher has also been a great all-around player for the team, and has surpassed expectations so far.

I just hate the injury excuse. Every team deals with injuries, the good teams find ways to win when injuries start to pile up. People are allowed to call me reactionary, or harsh with my thoughts on Kane, and that's fine. I just don't think he's been good enough. He's trying to do way too much by himself, he needs to simplify his game. Obviously the recent slump is not solely on Kane, but he came in extremely confident, and said things like I want to be a leader, and I think I'm going to be better than the last 2 years, and so far he hasn't backed up his words. The reality is we've lost 4 of 5 games with him in the lineup, and he's a -6. I'm sure he will step his game up a bit, but I just don't know if bringing in a 35 year old banged up Patrick Kane is what this team needed.

People will get upset but I mostly agree with you. I didn't expect Kane to be any better than he has been, but he did talk a big game and hasn't backed it up. I think he's flashed his obvious skill which doesn't just disappear, but overall has done very little to drive offense and has been abysmal in the defensive zone. If Berggren was making the same plays on our half of the red line that Kane has, some people here would be screaming to send him to the ECHL.

We'll see how it goes but IMO this surgery is a career ender and Kane will retire at the end of this year after putting up ~0.5 PPG with us the rest of the way.

Ok so what about DeBrincat? He hasn’t scored any goals and is -11 in those games. It’s no secret Mo isn’t playing up to the level we know we he can. I get there’s a lot of frustration, but let’s just take a breather here. Every team even the best go through bad stretches. When Larkin and Compher come back and Kane gets more than a handful of games then we can reevaluate.

even the best teams would struggle if they're missing their top 2 Centers

look at New Jersey not too long ago when they had Hughes and Hischier both out

Should have signed Kessel. He’s healthy, wants to play and dude can score goals

I'm glad this has lined up together because it shows me who has shit tier opinions and who watches games with the ability to see the process of hockey.

Kane has been fine. He’s not fully up to game speed just yet when the entire league has been there for months. It’s really hard to get a good evaluation on him with Larkin and Compher out. The Wings are not a great team and just like earlier this year they will have cold stretches, especially with their key players injured. Can’t blame it on Kane.

He just came back from rehab and is still shaking the rust. He has elite IQ and hands. He is avoiding hard / gritty physical play AS HE SHOULD BE!

His skating looks too notch. It's really hard to be critical of the guy.

man....I was receiving some flak from others because I was saying we should give him 10-15 games before we know if this was a good move or not....but after 5 games people are saying complete bust signing? my god people.

Cat has been terrible too. If he's not scoring, he's borderline useless out there.

Good grief theres some horrible takes in this thread. Kane has been better than expected if anything coming back, without any real center to play with
Better than expected? what were your expectations? no points and -10 through 5 games?

I'm guessing his expectations (as mine) were low because we're talking about a 35-year old player coming off a major hip surgery that no NHL player has come back from at anywhere near their former ability.

Also as has been mentioned, Kane joining the team unfortunately coincided with losing their top two centers.

Enlighten me, how much hockey have you played in your life? I'd love to hear your personal hockey story, and how you've learned to become such an astute hockey mind who really understands the process of hockey better than others.

Where did you play growing up? Anything reputable, or were you playing house league in Chicago?

and both of those centers are instrumental to our powerplay...just so happens to be one of the most important part of Kane's ability as well.

Honestly Perron is a loss on the PP as well. He may not be as big of a loss overall but he's another shooting option on the power play and good puck recovery guy.
